She turned to Justin “What does it seem like happened?” Amber replied a bit too snappy, but when the adrenaline drained from her body quickly she quietly said ” I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped. I don’t know what happened. I wasn’t even away for that long.” She put her hands together to stop them from shaking. Amber was still adjusting to being a mom and whenever something went wrong it just felt like the harder she tried the less everything was working. “I don’t know what went wrong, I just wanted to properly. cook alone for once.” When she found herself rambling, Amber just shut up.

Justin took a breath and went to assess the damage, walking away from Amber. "It's alright, darling. I'm just happy you're okay and the house is still standing. It looks like it's just the pan that has the damage." He peered closer at the pan and shrugged, returning to Amber. He took her hands in his and kissed them. "You're okay. Cooking is a learned skill. You'll get there, sweetheart." Justin gave Amber a soft smile and pulled her in close, wrapping his arms around her.

I See Fire || Amber & Justin

Amber put a pan with oil on the stove and looked at it for a moment. She was home alone, but she knew Justin and Liliya would be back soon. She wasn’t the back cook, simply because growing up she never got the chance to cook properly. She looked away from the stove and went to bathroom to take a quick bathroom break, she didn’t think it would hurt, but when she came back Amber knew something wasn’t right. The smell was the first thing she noticed, it smelled burnt but she hadn’t put anything that could burn on yet  she rushed back  to the kitchen.When she entered the kitchen, Amber saw the flames coming from the pan and felt her heartbeat quicken.

 For the first few seconds she was too shocked to do anything, but then she started thinking. Thinking about the things her grandma told her, the things she saw on tv. Amber looked for the lit that would fit, an oven mitt and baking soda. In her rush to find everything and adrenaline kick she didn’t hear the front door open. She put on the oven mitt, poured the whole pack of baking soda on the fire and put the lit on the pan before taking a step back.

Justin needed to run some errands and decided to take Liliya with him. Amber had said that she would have an early dinner ready for him and her when he got back and so he gave her a kiss and left with their daughter. As he ran the errands, the final stop he made was to the flower shop and got some flowers to bring home for Amber.

When he arrived, he smelled it right away. Amber was standing away from the smoke, but the fire that was once there seemed to be out. He set Liliya in her baby pen and went to his fiance. "Amber! What happened? Are you alright?"

Amber put her head on Justin’s shoulder.”Oh yeah, I guess so. Dying would’ve been a bit extreme though and I guess since you didn’t faint you did a good job too.” She nodded “That’s alright.” She was glad at least his parents somehow accepted it. Amber sighed and mumbled ” I should probably let my family know. i might just let my dad know through a text because I’m honestly not up for any of his bullshit”

Justin sighed and gave Amber a gentle squeeze. "They'll come around. Once they meet Liliya they'll fall in love with her." He gave her a reassuring smile and pecked her lips. "Are we going to baptize her or let her choose when she's older? I don't mind either way."

  "Well yeah they shouldn’t come in big groups because that is just bad for everyone. " When Justin sat down next to her Amber she leaned into him. All of this had made her really tired and she felt like she could just sleep for hours, but Amber knew she probably wouldn’t really get the chance to do that anytime soon. "I love you too. There wasn’t much I could do wrong."

Justin shrugged and wrapped his arms around Amber. "There could have been complications or something. You didn't die and I didn't faint so I think we did well. We also have a healthy, beautiful girl." He kissed her head and laid his head gently on hers. "My parents will probably come up first. They're really excited."

  "It was too gross for words. I’m surprised it didn’t scar me for life." Amber nodded her head slightly "Good, I think it’s the best if no one really comes until at least this evening but on the other hand it’s not like we can really settle down until we’re actually home." She smiled as reply "With parents like us there’s no way in hell she would’ve been ugly." She winked at him. "If she’s tired you can put her in the bassinet I guess… my grandma always said it’s better to make them get used to sleeping alone from the start.All though holding a sleeping baby can be lovrly too, so I guess it would still be alright now,

Justin nodded. "Yeah, we won't be settled for probably a year. And besides, it's not like everyone needs to come at once." He chuckled and said, "We make attractive children for sure." He smiled at Amber and shrugged. "I think she's dozing off so I'll go put her in the thing that looks more like an incubator than a bassinet." Justin got up and gently placed his daughter onto the blankets and kissed her forehead. He returned to Amber and sat down close to her. "I love you, and you did so well," Justin said, taking Amber's hand and kissing it gently.

"It wouldn’t be the first time I get thrown up on, my brother once threw up on my back but let’s not go into detail about that now." Amber shook her head slightly before looking over at them. If she was honest she still hadn’t completely taken in everything. Less than a year ago they were just people in college that were trying to figure out how to cope with distance and now they were here, in the hospital with a baby. "Did your mom say when they were gonna visit?" She asked .

"That's disgusting," Justin said scrunching his nose. He shook his head. "No, she said that they would  visit when we told them to because she knows we need to get settled." He sat on the edge of the bed and continued to bounce their daughter gently. She was closing her eyes and Justin noted how she had Amber's eyes. "She's just so beautiful," he said looking at his fiance. "Just like her mom."

  "I’m sure you’ll be fine" Amber smiled at him assuringly  "and I’m pretty sure you know how to to, you read enough stuff about it all." She handed Justin the baby and watched the two of them. "Yeah like that." She gave him thumbs up and leaned against the pillow behind her.

Justin made cooing noises at Liliya as he continued to gently pat her back. When she did burp, some of the milk came up with it onto the cloth Amber had handed him. Justin chuckled softly as he thought of his cousins as babies and how gross he thought they were. "Next time, she throws up on you," Justin teased Amber as he discarded the soiled cloth.

  When Amber heard Justin talk she looked up at him and nodded her head ” I think so yeah. ” Once Liliya was done feeding she tugged her top closed. She held the baby in a more upright position and asked ” Do you want to like burp her?. ”

Justin looked at Amber hesitantly. "Are you sure? I mean, I don't know how..." He smiled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. "I could try, I guess." Justin reached for his daughter and grabbed the small cloth, putting it on his shoulder so his clothes wouldn't get dirty of Liliya spit up a little. "Like this?" he asked, swaying gently and patting the baby's back.

  "I guess so, I mean it’s worth giving a shot." Amber shrugged and looked ant Justin "it’s the healthiest for her. And if it doesn’t work we can ask the nurse for help, it’s what they’re here for." She sat up straighter and took a pillow to put on her lap, she read somewhere it helped to support the baby. When Justin handed her their daughter Amber smiled slightly, when she held her right after labour she had been too overwhelmed to get a proper look. She opened the amount of buttons that had to be open to be able to feed her. As she held Liliya close she tried to remember the things she had read and the billion tips people gave her. After a few minutes of struggling the baby finally latched on. Amber looked down at the small girl and mumbled "Oh god" as she was slowly getting used to this new feeling.

Justin looked on with a worried look as he watched Liliya feed from Amber. When Amber mumbled, Justin moved closer and rested a hand on her leg. "You doing okay?" he asked.

  "I’m pretty sure this is the sexiest I have ever looked." Amber made space for Justin to sit down on the bed. She looked down at Liliya and se racdher small arm with her fingers lightly. When she reached her hand their daughter’s small fingers curled around hers, Amber couldn’t help but smile lightly and look up at Justin "Do you think she’s hungry?"

Justin smiled and rocked Liliya gently. "Probably. Are you going to... You know... Breastfeed her?" Justin wasn't sure why that made him nervous but it did. He cleared his throat and rested a hand on his daughter's and Amber's.

  “I would never even think about underestimating you.” She watched Justin as he changed the diaper and once he was finished Amber sat up straighter and said “I never said you couldn’t do it. I’m impressed by the speed though. ” She gladly took the baby and laid her down in front of her. ” Can you just grab one of the pajamas? They’re in the baby bag.” After Liliya was dressed and everything that had to be done in the delivery room was done, the nurse brought them to a regular room. When they got there Amber said “I’m just gonna change into something that isn’t covered in blood and lord knows what else.” She took one of the pajama from a bag and got up, the walk to the bathroom was harder than she expected it to be but she still fought through it. After a few minutes she got rid of the hospital gown and was back in bed.

Justin grabbed a onesie and watched as Amber slipped their daughter into it. When the nurse said it was time to move, Justin grabbed all their stuff and followed behind the wheelchair with a smile. He chuckled slightly at Amber's comment before she went to the bathroom. "Sexy," he teased when she came back out. When she sat down, Justin sat with her, holding Liliya.

  Amber wasn’t really paying attention to whatever the nurses were doing. She was too focused on her small family, a few hours ago she had never expected her priorities to shift this quickly. When the nurse finished whatever she was doing she told them they should try putting on a diaper and pajamas. Amber had changed loads of diapers in her life so she turned to Justin and smiled ” I think this job is for you be glad there’s no poop yet.”

Justin laughed and nodded. "I have changed diapers before! Do not underestimate me, my fair lady." Justin took a diaper from the nurse and laid Liliya down gently. He quickly removed the old diaper, cleaned his daughter, and put a fresh one on. He held her up for Amber to inspect. "See, I told you I could do it." Justin smiled happily and handed the baby girl to Amber so she could put the pajamas on.

"I’m pretty sure I have a fairly good idea."  She kissed Justin back and after that she looked into his eyes. Even though she was tired and probably looked like a mess Amber still felt somehow happy and excited for what the future would bring for the three of them. At that moment the nurse came back to the bed and shared the height and weight. She also said that after tey took care of the last things, like getting everything stitched up and Liliya properly dressed they would be brought to another room where they’d have to fill in some files and do the first feeding. Amber nodded to show that she got everything and the nurse walked to Justin to hand him their daughter.

Justin kept Amber's hand in his and nodded along as the nurse spoke. Then, another came in with Liliya and he smiled brightly. When she was handed to him, this overwhelming feeling came over him. He knew he had to protect his little girl and he felt this immense love for this little human that only a father could feel. He looked to Amber with an expression of happiness and love for both her and his daughter. "She's perfect, Amber."

"I am doing fabulously," Justin replied. He had his hand in his jacket as he approached Amber. "Amber, I think we need to talk." He took his hands out of his jacket and sat next to his girlfriend. "There’s something I need to ask you…" Justin looked to Amber and turned her face...

Justin placed the ring on Amber's finger and smiled as she pulled him close. "I love you, too. More than you'll ever know." He kissed her softly yes passionately and smiled as their foreheads pressed together. He couldn't help but beam at his fiancé as he thought about what just happened.

  She nodded her head and watched Justin walk to the hallway. She wasn’t really sure when she should tell her own family, but she didn’t really think about that they’d find out some way anyway. Amber sighed and looked back to what the nurse was doing, there didn’t really happen anything unexpected but she still wanted to know what was going on. All of had still felt very surreal to Amber for a long time, but seeing that baby- her daughter made it just all so much more real. When Justin entered the room she replied without looking away from Liliya “I’m holding up quite good, I guess. I’m just tired. You? “

"I am doing fabulously," Justin replied. He had his hand in his jacket as he approached Amber. "Amber, I think we need to talk." He took his hands out of his jacket and sat next to his girlfriend. "There's something I need to ask you..." Justin looked to Amber and turned her face towards him gently. "I adore you and I think you did amazingly this morning." He smiled softly and continued. "You're strong and independent and I still remember the day we met. You hate unpacking still to this day, but I don't anymore." Justin took a breath and closed his eyes for a moment. "I love you, Amber Green, but what do you think about changing your last name?" With that, Justin held out a small box with a ring in it.

  She leaned closer to Justin, but Amber still kept her focus on the small girl she was holding. When Justin talked she looked up at him, the two of them had talked about names quite often but never really decided which one they like the most. She looked back at her and thought for a moment before deciding ” We should name her Liliya. It sounds beautiful and fits her. After a few minutes the nurse came back to the bed and said they had to check the baby. As they took her to the other side of the room to check on everything Amber looked at Justin again “Maybe now is the time to let people know? Or at least we should let your parents know.”

Justin smiled at the name as he looked at his daughter. "I like that a lot. Good job, sweetheart." He kissed Amber's head and smiled at her. When the nurse took Liliya away, his smile faltered a little, but quickly came back. "I'll call my mom and she'll spread the word. I'll be right back." With that, Justin left the room and called his mom. The conversation was short, but he took his time in the hallway processing what just happened. He sighed and smiled, thinking of what he was going to do once he saw Amber again. He went back into her room beaming. "How you holding up, darling?"

Justin was scared as he held Amber’s hand. “Shhh. You’re going to be fine. We’ll get through this.” He knew that is was painful but he didn’t have anything to relate it to. He gave the doctor a look of worry as his girlfriend showed pain and agony. “I love you, Amber.” Justin...

Justin kept trying to calm Amber down and then the doctor said he could see the head. Justin was relieved because that meant his girlfriend wouldn't be in pain much longer and she just needed a couple more pushes. When the baby girl was out Justin was filled with this emotion he couldn't explain. He watched as the nurse waved him over and she handed him a pair of scissors. "You want me to cut that?" He said pointing to the umbilical cord. The nurse nodded and Justin gulped. She pointed where he should cut and he did so, quickly handing the scissors back to the nurse. Justin watched as the baby was handed to Amber and he smiled and wrapped his arms around his family. "What are we going to name her?"
