the-hot-ness:
He turned at the voice, his expression lightening at the familiarity of the other. “Ah, New Kid,” Mark grinned, setting his drink down. “Things out in the field better than in the office, I presume?”
Jack rolled his eyes, but expected the greeting, he was the new kid after all, “Nope.” he said, popping his lips as he spoke, “It’s quiet. Too quiet if i’m being honest. Nobody’s saying anything, even known informants are keeping their traps shut.”
julianaarthur:
“You really shouldn’t be roaming this area after dusk - do you not read the daily prophet?”
Jack scoffed and shook his head, “I’m a big boy Julie, I can look after myself. Besides who in their right mind would believe anything the daily prophet wrote.”
Being back in the office felt cramped, Mark found himself unable to concentrate in the tiny area he called a work space. He was glad to finally have some freedom in the afternoon, wandering the streets of London for a good long while before he made a stop at the Leaky Cauldron for a drink. He sat down at the bar, ordering himself a scotch on the rocks, and sat quietly and contentedly listening to the sounds of the bar, the happy hum of the patrons. Just as he raised his drink to his lips, he felt a presence behind him. “If you’re looking for an auror, find one that’s still on duty. I’m off for the day,” he grunted, intending to ignore the newcomer.
Since the attacks Jack had mainly been stationed in hogsmeade and the school, but tonight he was off duty so decided to venture out to Diagon Alley and The Leaky. He spotted the fellow auror and pulled up the stool next to him, “If i was looking for an auror, i’d look in the mirror mate.” he gestured for the bar tended to get him a water.
lorcan-scamanderxx:
He could only imagine how busy the Auror’s office had been since the attack on the gala and the camp out. Jack was probably tired of it, so a drink was the least he could do, even though alcohol would’ve been his first pick, but he understood the need to be sober. Lorcan’s head nodded as he took a sip from his glass. “Just got back from Nepal. It’s been…you know, good to get away from all this.” He felt guilty for not being around after the attacks, but he was able to clear his mind and try to enjoy himself while they could. There was no way things were going to remain so peaceful.
Taking a sip from his drink he nodded, there had definitely been times since graduation and more so now than ever that he wanted to add some fire whiskey to his drink or a potion or even track down his old dealer and just forget about the stress of work, but he knew if he relapsed there would be no going back. “Don’t blame you tbh. It hasn’t exactly been a nice atmosphere around here.” Almost everyone in the Auror office had been working extra hours, chasing impossible leads just to try and track down their boss, to add on top of that the awkwardness of his Father contacting him to help with the funeral arrangements for his mother, he wasn’t sure when the last time that he got a full night’s sleep was.
mapetitelibellule:
Turning to see her former classmate, she huffed at him as he spoke. Of course, she wasn’t going to turn him away.. He was an Auror, one of her uncle’s trainees before he’d disappeared. And right now he was in the line of duty, patrolling the areas in and around Hogwarts to make sure that no one was going to lay harm to the students. She couldn’t be rude to him - a few months ago he was basically a kid and now he was an adult doing a very adult job. And she wasn’t dumb, she read the papers.. She knew he lost someone himself. Sighing, she nodded at him. “Okay, fine. So long as you don’t make a bigger mess.” Moving behind the bar, she looked at him. “I know your sober, so… If you’d like, I could get you a glass of water or even milk? If you want anything.. we might even have some food, if you’re hungry.” She looked around for something, eyes dancing between him and whatever was beneath the bar. “Have a busy day, now? Perhaps run into anyone suspicious while patrolling the dangerous streets of Hogsmeade Village?” She snorted at her own words. It was a long shot that he would share information with her, but, well… Anything was useful for her, even the tiniest irrelevant morsel could have a clue as to those she was preparing to fight against.
Jack simply nodded his thanks, honestly he was exhausted and couldn’t find it in himself to make a cocky or charming comment, “Cheers, water will be fine.” At the mention of food, he suddenly realised that he hadn’t eaten in nearly 12 hours, the beginning of his shift. “Food sounds heavenly to be honest, if you’ve got any, don’t put yourself out though.” He hadn’t realised that he had zoned out and was staring at a wall behind the blondes head until she asked about his day and he flicked his gaze to hers, raising an eyebrow, “Why you asking, blondie? You know something?” he shook his head before leaning in, “It’s been incredibly boring. It’s quiet everywhere, normal even. Too quiet, too normal. It’s not right. But I can’t exactly arrest somebody for acting normal, can I?” he leaned back slightly, “Everybody’s desperate to find your Uncle, the office is in a frenzy and we’re just coming up with dead ends. It’s frustrating having to follow protocol.”
lorcan-scamanderxx:
He sighed when Jack pointed back the obvious, but he wasn’t going to argue with the former Slytherin. “Take it.” Lorcan said, giving in. He signaled the bartender. “Order what you want.” He told Jack, figuring he should buy the new Auror a drink of some sort, but remembering he’d been sober for the last few months.
Jack nodded his thanks before turning to face the bartender, “Just a pumpkin juice, mate.” Living just around the corner, he had once been a regular in this pub for all the wrong reasons, causing himself to be barred on the regular, but since being sober, the bar staff had found him much more tolerable. As the bartender set the drink down in front of him, Jack turned his attention to his ex-roommate's brother, “So, heard you and Lysander went travelling?”
lorcan-scamanderxx:
“That seat’s taken.” Lorcan muttered as he mixed the euphoria into his beer, not looking up at who was trying to sit down. He tossed his drink back, just craving the warmth to wash over him. He’d just gotten back from Nepal and climbing Everest with his brother and decided to run into town to grab some ingredients for himself and other things for his parents. Ever since the attack at the gala, his mind had wandered around, just imagining what the fuck came next. Harry Potter was still missing, people were dead, and in no universe did that lead to a happy ending.
“Is it? I didn’t see anybody sat there.” Jack murmured back in response. He’d just finished a particularly boring shift of walking about hogsmeade. Only there to make the locals feel safe, let them know that the Auror Department were actually seen to be doing something, even if ever possible lead seems to come to a dead end.
mapetitelibellule:
“As the sign on the door so clearly states,” Victoire started in a huff, setting a heavy crate of Ogden’s down as she reached for a rag to wipe down the bar, “We are closed.” Working at the Hog’s Head wasn’t exactly how she’d pictured her life post-Hogwarts, but with everything going on, being close to what was undoubtedly set to be the next big target - Hogwarts Castle - was the best option. And flaunting a ridiculous amount of cleavage and giggling like a foolish little girl at the many drunkards that regular the pub gave her access to the backroom, which was the perfect base for operations for what she and James were putting together in secret. So yes, it wasn’t glamorous by any means… But it worked. “You know your way out. Come back tomorrow, I’m sure you’ll be able to quench your thirst until then elsewhere,” she started as she began collecting bottles throughout the empty pub, her back mostly to the person who had decided to walk into her work space when they’d just closed up for the night.
“Calm down Weasley, It’s me.” Although Jack wasn’t convinced that, that would suddenly calm down the blondes attitude. He’d not long finished his shift, which pretty much consisted of walking the streets of hogsmeade and making sure there were not death eaters lurking about, which unsurprisingly, they didn’t seem to just hang around on street corners, casually AK-ing random people. He pulled up a stool, “Come on Vic, I’ve just spent long hard hours making sure that all your punters are safe. Besides you know I’m sober so it’s not like I’m going to get drunk and wreck the place.”

A memory about their significant other
A more recent memory. It was during the attack, he had just seen his mother fall dead at his feet when he heard her voice, speaking so casually that he almost forgot where he was. In the two or so months since she had been away he had pushed every feeling he possibly could out of his mind, except when they would write to each other, he couldn’t dwell on how much he missed her. But in that moment all the feelings came crashing through and all he wanted was to leave the battle and take her back to their flat, as unprofessional as it may have been, so that he could spend time with just her. But thankfully he knew Molly wouldn’t have had that, instead they continued fighting until the attack was over. @mercenarymolly
💛
A memory that makes them feel angry
The Attack on the Gala. Like most he felt angry at what had happened, that Harry, his girlfriends uncle, his boss, had been taken. But that wasn’t what angered him the most. What angered him the most was that he hadn’t been able to save his Mother. He was conflicted with his emotions, whether he should feel sad or not, considering she had never been particularly kind to him the past 8 years of his life, but then he’d remember the mother she had been and he swore with a vengeance that he would find who had killed Penelope Clearwater-Mason and he’d kill them.
💚
A memory that makes them feel guilty
Recalling the night he and Molly broke up. The night he cheated on her. He had pushed all the guilt as deep as he could and locked it up, insistent that he didn’t care and it simply resulted in it coming back ten fold. He still had nights where he’d dream that he had done it again, that he’d taken it one step further and Molly had returned from her training to find him in bed with another girl, the look on her face matched the very one she wore the night she had caught him kissing that girl at the school dance, a look he’d never forget. @mercenarymolly
💘- A memory that gets their heart pounding
A memory that gets their heart pounding
Going through the intense training of the Auror Academy was hard. But he’d never expected any less, he had always been physically fit, but he was still pushed to his limits. He knew it would all be worth it in the end, but some times were harder then other, especially returning to an empty flat and not knowing when he’d next see her. Sometime he’d be tempted to go a grab some fire whiskey from the local shop and even though on the day of graduation he had, had a drink to celebrate and had been able to stop, he wasn’t convinced he’d be so lucky next time. But then he’d get flashbacks to the waking up in the hospital wing, being told that he’d overdosed and his hear would pound, seeing the worry etched on Molly’s face and he dreaded ever seeing that again. It was the only thing that kept him sober. @mercenarymolly
m-ham:
Mason nodded quickly, “thank you. Really, thanks.” He said with a small smile, before standing up and holding out his hand for Jack. “And good luck.”
Jack leaned over and shook his hand, “And you. I’d say call me Mason, most do, But it’d be a bit weird, don’t you think?”
m-ham:
“Not many herbologist get the chance to discover new plants…but I get what you mean. Okay…I’ll do my best.”
Jack nodded and stepped out of the compartment, “I gotta carry on making sure there's no death eaters on this train. But y’know, if you need someone to talk, you can owl me.”
mercenarymolly:
“Planning on not seeing him.” She pulled out her wand and fired spells at more death eaters that came their way. “I can’t stand the man to this day, Jack. I haven’t even seen him for months and the mention of his name makes me cringe.” Of course Percy would freak over the tattoo, but he also disapproved her mercenary plan when she first revealed it to her parents. Obviously Audrey didn’t want to watch her little girl go away, but at least she was happy Molly was following what she wanted to do for once. Jack’s familiar arms wrapped around Molly and for the first time in months she felt vulnerable. She wanted to sink into him and hide from all the things she had seen during her training. The dark mark appeared and Molly peered up to look at it for a brief moment before stepping back from Jack. Her hand slid down his chest as she walked around him with that sly smirk of hers. “I have to say, you pleasantly surprised me. Look at you– fighting.” Her smile grew softer as she looked at him. She just wanted to kiss him– but not here. Not in public with her fellow peers from camp watching her. Molly had to remain unattached and very secretive about the fact that she had sided with the Order. Mercenaries remained neutral and Molly Weasley was the exact opposite.
“Well I know better than anyone that you don’t actually need to have a relationship with your parent’s.” Although Jack had to admit he wasn’t sure how it felt like that considering his mother had died before him only moments before Molly had arrived. But he pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind he couldn’t deal with them right now, he’d wait and talk them through with Molly when they had a moment alone. He smirked and shoved his hands into his pockets, watching her as her hand slid down his chest, his eyes drifting over as she walked around him. Only she could distract him from his job like this, from keeping things professional. He chuckled and nodded, “I know right, who’d have thought it, a junkie like me actually graduating, never mind getting into The Auror Academy.” He glanced around before stepping closer, his hand on her waist and leant in the whisper in her ear, “I gotta go debrief with the boss, are you coming home with me or have you gotta go back?”
m-ham:
Mason tensed as Jack spoke to him, swallowing the lump on his throat. “I have a career picked out..Im gonna be a herbologist. Though my professor is dead too now…so I’m not sure about that anymore..”
“You got twice as many people to make proud then. I dunno what you herbologist’s do, but dedicate, i dunno the first.... plant you discover or something to him.”
