“You’d think this school would realize that trips aren’t the best ideas in the world.”
“You’d think a school wouldn’t fund something this grand in the first place.”
Snow stares at the stars outside, leaning against the railing as she did so. “It’s so beautiful,” she sighs happily, completely mesmerized. “They’re so bright….And so many…..I can see them a lot better out here than back at school.”
“Obviously that’s because of the lights there.”
“We would so see one of the 3D at sea movies? Or a Broadway-Caliber show. Looks like the next one is an original twist on a Cinderella story.”
“The Broadway-Caliber show sounds good enough to me.”
“Oh, come on. I don’t think you’ll suffer that much.”
“My clothes might.”
“I’m honestly quite disappointed in this trip. I expected something a bit more…me.”
“I’m sure you’re disappointed in a lot.”
“What? Are you afraid of the water?”
“I’d rather not be forced to change.”
“I have yet to go to these amazing shows that this cruise is so proud of.” Annie said looking at the planned schedule for the evening. “You want to join me and see one?”
“I didn’t pay too much attention, what are the shows about?”
“Sounds like a lame childhood then.”
“Climbing trees sounds lame to me.”
“Because that’s what normal kids do! Climb trees, get a few cuts and bruises, maybe break a limb or two; and have some gnarly stories to tell at the end of the day!”
“Well, I wasn’t the one who got the cuts and bruises.”
“Have you never climbed a tree before?”
“Why would I? It’s pointless.”
“What are you majoring in?”
“Dramatic Arts. What about you?”
“Um, maybe? I guess that’s kind of what I’m saying. But just focusing on the fact that we can’t assume we know each other as well as we did. Like I said, we’ve both changed.”
“Then I look forward to getting to know you again.”
“Why don’t you just over flow with compliments.” she laughed slightly. “What brings you to NDC?”
“I would think it would be the same as what everyone else is here for: to get a degree.”
“Well, no, that wasn’t what I meant.” She replied. “I was just saying that we need to get to know each other again if we want to be friends in the future. We can’t keep acting like we are the same person from when we dated. Because we aren’t.”
“So what you’re saying is that we need to act like we’re two new people who are only now just meeting?”
“Well, I have ballet and my career ahead of me. Friends. Relationships. And you have your acting. Friends. Relationships.” She said. “I just mean that we both have different stuff going for us now.”
“I hardly think that would tear us apart.”
“For fun?”
“And where is the fun in that?”’
“I know, I know…” She sighed, shaking her head a little. “This is probably why we need to get to know each other again. Especially since our lives are going to be going different ways at this point.”
“Going different ways? What do you mean?”
