Here is the updated version of my animated book cover research and freelance work research.
Here is my final animation for The Knowledge, I used photoshop to create this animation. When making the animation i was using different opacities to get the desired fade effect. I had to constantly go back over the timings so that everything would fad in at the right time.
This is a new idea i created, i felt that a more abstract attempt would look a lot nicer compared to my old animation. When thinking about this idea I was looking around the web at different designs to give me inspiration for creating this piece.
Here is the creation of the graphics for my final animation. The programme I used was Photoshop. I started by taking the gradient tool and making a background for the graphic. I then started to use the polygon tool where i was able to manipulate lines to create polygons of all different shapes and sizes. Once i had the line for my polygon I used a round soft brush to feather the edges of of the polygons so that they had the colours shown above. To create the desired effect i was layering each polygon and creating different sized ones which i then colours to a different shade of the previous colour. Once i had the base graphic complete i copied the entire thing flipped and re-sized it in which I then applied the blur filter and changed the opacity to create the shadow effect behind the graphic. Now that was complete I added a flare behind the piece to make it look as it was glowing, i done this with a soft brush. Finally I took The Knowledges logo and faded and applied effects so it matched in with the final graphic. I am very happy with the outcome of this, it think it looks great and abstract which is what I was going for to show creativity in graphics etc.
So this was an 'outcome' for my animation that i was planning to do. The final outcome did not go well at all. The animation was very shaky, the graphics and the whole animation itself was plain and boring. it only lasted for 1second which isn't very good at all. I am not happy at all with this animation but what it did was help me carry on creating to produce a better animation which will be posted at a later time. You can see the final animation here https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6vu799i3u1n1j5/Jack_Ballard.fla. No effort was really put into this from me but i'm not the greatest at animating but hopefully my new animation will re-deem this monstrosity i have created.

Research Techniques/Evaluation of research
After researching into different industries, I now have the knowledge to fully understand what is required within my work and how these techniques can help me improve the work I have conducted. I have always found that the most useful research I have conducted was the 12 principles of animation. When I first joined the course I had no clue there was so many principles to animating I always thought you just keep on drawing each scene then make something happen, but because of the research I conducted I found it very useful when carrying out Task 1. This was because I could always look back and refer to the techniques I should be using in my animation. Even though the other research I have done has helped me a lot I found this to be most useful.
This was not the only research I conducted, whilst drawing my first flash animation I was always looking at different styles of art and how I could use that to create my own style of drawing which was shown in my slender animation. I feel that Task 1 was my stronger task because I love to draw and create with a pen, pencil and paper, where as in task two we had to use MAYA to create a 3D Model which required the manipulation of shapes and then joining then to make a model. The aim of researching has always been to inspire and give you the knowledge and understanding of the topic at hand and I feel that it has done so for me.
When creating my 3D model the programme was quite hard to get a grip of even with the research I conducted. But with the animation I found it a lot easier to find a style, inspiration and the research itself which made it a lot easier for me, as it allowed me to draw out each frame of my slender animation, then re-trace them in Photoshop where I then coloured and shaded them. After that I put them into flash and ‘boom’ my animation was created which I was very happy with the finished product. I could have done with more time to make the animation longer.
Here is a kind of final look on how my idea will look like, as you can see I have used illustrator and Photoshop to create this piece. Although it look like a simple design, there was a lot of detail into drawing the camera, placing the brush strokes that come out of the camera so it looks as it is flowing out of it. I will be adding more detail to the piece and will be hoping to animate the flows coming out of it.
A very brief and quick idea I made to present my work in photoshop. Again this is very simple and brief, i will be drawing everything by hand in my actual idea.
Proposal...
For this project we have been the chance to do freelance work for the company The Knowledge. We have been given the task of creating 3D or animated book cover, which relates to The Knowledge. For my idea I hope to create a animated book cover which will revolve around a lot of creative ideas and will hopefully show my full skill in animating. The animation will start off my showing a blank page with a cube on it, which then it will start to morph into a lot of different shapes which will finally change into a camera then out the lens the word ‘The Knowledge’ will flow out of it following with a verity of colours. I am deciding to either draft it out on paper first before I import it into the PC, or to completely create it in Flash or Photoshop. I will be doing a lot of research on how to draw and animate my idea so that I have a clear idea on how I’m going to do this and how I want it to look.

Final outcome of my Motion graphics for my show-reel!
In my proposal I wanted to use cogs for my main logo sequence but after thinking about it I didn't like the idea of it. So I started to experiment with different tools in AE and found that I could use a sound wave as my logo instead. The screen shots above show my progress on how I started to make my logo. First of all I made a background by editing gradients to get the effect I wanted. Once I had that complete I added my name and experimented with different opacities. Having that done I added the sound waves, I had to duplicate then flip one of the layers so that it could mirror what the first sound wave would be doing.
