Haha, what are you talking about?You’re amazing! Seriously, you’re really talented, Jack. It probably doesn’t mean much coming from me, because I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, but your work is really, really cool. I actually was going to buy one of your boards! I don’t skate, but I could always hang it up somewhere in my house, right? 

Yeah, that’d be really cool if we could hang out! I’m actually off from Thursday till next Monday. I have to learn how to go to a spa with Gage, but other than that, I have no plans.

There’s nothing better than getting new brushes. I must have churned out nearly 15 board decks today. I got hit with so much inspiration, it’s the best.

“No, no I’m not interested in it at all.” Vincent shook his head, sarcasm dripping at his words. Why were all artist so dimwitted, he could never understand.“Of course I like it. That is why I’m asking. Here I’ll give you two hundred. And I want that one too.” He pointed to the one next to it.”Deal?”

“Yeah, you can have both,” Jack said, the excitement no longer apparent in his voice. While he enjoyed the idea of others liking the work he produced, there was a sense of frustration when the buyer held an air of assumption and pretension. Fortunately, Jack was raised better than to be rude in return to sarcasm. Instead, he picked up the paintings and gently set the on the table. “I’ll wrap them up for you,” Jack said, carefully placing butcher paper over the canvas and securing them in the most gentle nature. “Take care of them,” Jack said as he finished wrapping the paintings up, “They need a good home.”

I swear, this Monday felt like it just steam rolled me but I’m glad it’s over.  That was one of the longest sittings I’ve ever had for a back piece - 8 hours today, I think?  Not even done yet.  Next appointment is next week for another 8 hour session.  Luckily, tonight’s dinner with a lovely lady made up for it.

“Maybe after you’ve eaten,” Princeton replied sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

“I’m not, moron. Have you see how hard it is to try to walk around this shithole? Everyone is drunk as fuck. Or they have babies. Who are basically drunk ass mini people.”

“I can’t believe you’re perving on people who are drunk with children,” Jack said shaking his head while he stuffed whatever he could grab into his mouth. He shrugged over at Princeton and then gestured for his giant friend to take a seat at one of the empty chairs. “Stop perving on people, Prince. Take a seat and keep your eyes on the art, not on anyone else,” Jack grinned, “Oh, have you seen everyone else? Scott said we should all meet up for the fireworks!”

Worse fourth ever. I ended up having a few friends for lunch and blacked out the whole night. Hopefully I didn’t do anything embarrassing to or in front of your booth.

Vincent was more than surprised to hear him admit he’d been the owner of the painting. Then again, his youthful face wasn’t that far off. It was a predictable obviously, but still he felt an ounce of surprise. “Don’t apologize for living.” He explained. “I don’t do much of it. The noise is overwhelming.” He further decided to give him a glimpse of what his mind was like. He pointed to his temple, a brief lick over his bottom lip and he sighed. “This place is usually very quiet.” He shrugged, and let his orbs drift from the young man, to the painting again as his words finally set into his mind. “I think it has potential.”He nodded.

“How much for it?” He asked, before turning back to the owner of the masterpiece.

“You like it that much?” Jack asked excitedly. He ignored the ‘potential’ remark of his painting and just grinned happily at the older man. Though Jack had anticipated that there was going to buyers today, he hadn’t expected one to happen so quickly but then again, Jack’s ( as well as Katya’s, whom he shared the booth with) work spoke for itself.

“This one’s an original, there aren’t any prints,” Jack said as he looked back at the painting. “But I’ll give it to you for a hundred-fifty even. It’ll love being part of your home.”

“So, it means freedom to you and you enjoy it by being happy with all of your friends and enjoying everything about them?” Ward nodded from behind the camera. “That’s a cool way to celebrate today since not everyone really gets that sort of freedom. Are you thankful for the freedom you’ve been given? Do you think a lot of people take it for granted?”

“Uhh,” Jack paused for just a few moments and tried to figure out how to respond to the younger boy. He shrugged, “Isn’t that what’s great about it? That we’ve got the ability to enjoy the freedom we’ve got? That’s something to be celebrated all the time! I love it. Freedom is great.”

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,” Slater screamed. He wasn’t scared per say- to be fair, nothing truly scared the fireman, but he was already excited, so having a stranger jumping on his back just made him more excited. Luckily, he quickly realized the person on his back was not a stranger, but one of his friends, Jack. 

“OH. JACK. HI!” Slater shouted, twisting his arms back to get Jack a good whack on wherever he could reach, which just happened to be his ass, “Hi, hi, how are you? Is my back comfortable?”

Jack yelped in excitement at Slater’s smack. He laughed as wrapped his arms around Slater’s neck - the costume’s fur was made it a lot tougher than he thought it would be to hold on - and sighed very happily at the warmth of the other man. Jack clinged onto the man and shouted, “I LOVE YOU, SLATER. YOU’RE MY FRIEND.” Jack hopped off of him and stood in front of his friend, admiring the furry dog costume. “You look amazing, Slater. You should always be a dog.”

His curiosity peaked as he watched Jack struggle slightly with all his bags, Connie smiled upon hearing Jack was okay. “I’m glad,” he admitted with a content sigh. He was going to repeat his offer to help, before he was quickly given a bag of sweets. “These are all for me?” Connie couldn’t help but grin with excitement; while he usually didn’t have much of a sweet tooth, something about eating processed sugar on the Fourth of July seemed right, especially at an event like this. And while he was disappointed he couldn’t partake in the festivities with everyone, he was glad he could at least have a small taste of the fair’s food. 

“Thank you, Jack,” he smiled, finally taking his eyes away from the contents of the bag, and to the person who delivered them, “Let me pay you back, this is a lot of stuff.”

“No, don’t pay me back. No money. Just take it,” Jack shoved all of the bags toward Connie. He handed him most of the bags with the exception of one particular bag - he was going to give that to him once he remembered how to talk. Connie’s smile, of course, made him blush harder than he needed to. He shook his head and told Connie, “I told you that I was going to get everything to you from different booths since you were going to be here all day! You need to enjoy too! I want to help you enjoy!”

Slater wasn’t one to complain about his job, regardless of how demeaning or uncomfortable. And while most people mistook that for him simply being down for anything, he just didn’t believe in whining. Unfortunately, that’s how he got saddled with the job of being Sparky the Firedog, year after year, without fail. If he got lucky, he’d only work for a bit and switch off with the other firemen, but as someone full of boundless, nearly infinite, energy and enthusiasm, he was usually one for the job. 

“HI WELCOME. I MEAN, WOOF!” Slater exclaimed, trying to ignore the sweat pouring down his face as he sweltered under the hot sun in the costume. “HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!”

Slater told Jack that he was going to be dressed as Sparky the Firedog. As soon as the block party started, Jack immediately started searching for a giant furry dog. He ran around looking for someone and as soon as he saw him, all Jack could do was run straight to the giant furry dog dressed as a fireman and jump on his back.

“SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATER.”
