We were all rooting for you, 2015.
The two greatest shows of this millennium, Mad Men and Gilmore Girls, both ended on May 17th
Jon Hamm was on an episode of Gilmore Girls and he played a guy who went on a date with Lorelai to a David Bowie concert. That episode ends with Lorelai rolling her eyes at her mother and humming Bowie’s iconic ‘Space Oddity,’ a song that was featured at the end of the Mad Men episode 'Lost Horizon’
Alexis Bledel (Rory on Gilmore Girls) guest starred on a few episodes of Mad Men in season 5 as Pete’s love affair. Alexis and Vincent Kartheiser (Pete) got married IRL two years later.
Gilmore Girls ended in 2007 and mad men started in July of that year.
Coincidence? I think not.
Given all of the evidence, I think it’s safe to say that Mad Men owes it’s success to Gilmore Girls. One show had to end for the other to survive. Weiner used Gilmore Girls as a test to see whether or not Mad Men would survive. He also used it to tell us how Mad Men was going to end; the clues were right in front of our faces this entire time. That’s why he ended Mad Men on the 17th, eight years later, to honor the show that gave its life in order for Mad Men to be successful.
Mom: How are you handling the ending of Mad Men?
Me:
Si, Happy Maids.
