Based on the drapers looms that became in icon of British industry throughout the 18th and 19th Century, These abstractions, rendered as a 3D computer generated sculptures play homage to the endless process that these pieces of technology have played in human development as a whole. By facing one another in rows, a corridor is created whereby the physical space that the viewer inhabits in which to experience the work is continually being encroached upon by this anthropomorphic action of the looms pushing forward and back – further experimenting with this interplay between man and machine.

“By using 3D imaging software the central theme of a sculpture can be realised far quicker than actually building. These three ‘Nodding Donkey’s’ take reference of their form the pumps found at Oil fields across the globe. The action of the sculptures mimics the bowing of prayer whilst the hitting of chains against concrete references flagellation found in extreme acts of worship. In many ways the work is replacing the focus of the worship from that of a deity to oil. Oil itself has driven man to acts of inspired creation and acts of utter destruction, a process that mirrors the effect if religion across the ages.”
