My part of a trade with A-Lesbillion / Natsuki in exchange for one of her unused characters
Here’s the gist; the reason it’s been so long since a new version has been released is because I switched languages. I just couldn’t couldn’t get the RAM usage as low as I wanted in Java so I’m doing in on C++ now which means rewriting all the instructions for connecting with other sites. And for that I’m taking my time by having my own XML, HTML and JSON parsers to my liking to make work easier.
Also It will have a new name and logo that I will reveal when it’s released. And I will be reworking my patreon for that and other similar sites I’ve discovered.
Things to expect on the next release or later ones:
→ Get notified when someone mentions you → Ignore users → Reposting submissions → Rich text editor for descriptions and literature submissions → Simple builtin browser for adding accounts, enhanced privacy and quick account switching → Manage multiple accounts in the same site → Modability features (it is already modable but it will get mod management) → ARM server version for use in lightweight home servers such as Raspberry PI → Streaming interface - both stream and announce on the same in one go → Upload work files directly (.psd, .kra, .ora and maybe others) and have the program convert automatically to the proper format and your size of choice for uploading → Cropped thumbnail creator → Schedule submissions → Filtering messages and submission feed → Automatically linking users’ multiple accounts (reduces redundant notifications of the same artwork being posted in multiple places, and allows better linking when writing descriptions on submissions) → Description templates → Keyword autocomplete → Importing/synchronizing galleries → Editing submissions
Also I want to have some form of commission management, but I haven’t figured out how it would work yet. To have something to show for have a screenshot, showing the filter interface:
Now here’s a few questions: - Would you be interested in watching dev streams for artwatcher and other apps? - Which site(s) do you most want to use it for? Since I’m going to have to port things the next release, it should only have 4-6 supported sites initially, so I’ll take than into account. - Are you interested in it for following artists without having to check multiple websites, for the uploading features, or both?
Also I’m going to have something else interesting I’m finishing out, I’ll talk about it when I later.
I've never had any confidence in anything I've ever done. I try to watch your streams sometimes to see if there's anything I could pick up or learn but eventually I get really angry at myself and stop watching after a few minutes. What (in your opinion) should I do? I want to draw really REALLY badly and I have so many ideas floating around in my head but no one ever seems interested and I don't feel like I could ever be nearly as good as you.
Gosh, this is a very interesting question - I’ll try to answer as best and genuinely as I can.- Confidence: You’d be so surprised how your peers have little either, I certainly question and overthink every image I work on. I can’t say that I’ve built up ‘confidence’ over the years, but I have definitely learned how to accept the fact that I’m not perfect and share art even when I’m not confident in it. I’ve never been confident in anything I do either, I have some intense anxiety myself.
- Learning from Streams: That’s actually a very tough thing to do, unless the artist is giving a step-by-step of their process. (Which you can absolutely ask me for anytime when I work) I watch them more to relax and take a peek into an artist’s personal style, but learning from a stream is incredibly tough at least for me. Sometimes you can find little “Ah ha!” moments by watching, so perhaps watching streams to learn is only going to frustrate you. (Unless it’s a stream for learning, then hey that’s awesome)- Anger: When I was a fair bit younger and just starting out, I would find myself getting jealous, envious, even angry. I’d look at an artist with this hopeless feeling of “I’ll never be that.” But… the best you or anyone can do is keep trying. Use that anger to push yourself. Most of all, try hard not to compare yourself to others - generally those people may have quite a few years on you in experience! I still sometimes get a heart wrenching feeling when looking at my favorite artists, and wonder if I should be farther along in my own skill. There will always be someone better, and that anger will subside as you gain experience.- Getting Interest: This is one topic I have little advice on, because to me art is more of a passion. Interest from others is a wonderful thing that can occur from putting yourself out there and being active - but to me, it’s not that important. I have ideas to share, but I would share them in private even if I didn’t online. I have many things I don’t share as well, but this comes from a point of view of an introvert. I don’t like much attention, I appreciate what I get, but at the same time it makes me incredibly nervous. The only way to get interest is to be active, and that takes a lot out of people who don’t have the time to invest in it.- Good as _____ : The wonderful thing about creativity is you don’t have to be as good or as bad as anyone! You can make things and share them, even if they are simple sketches, or stories or any format. If you have ideas, write them down! Keep a logbook, get them out of your head and into something you can read. I feel if I don’t get my ideas out on paper (computer screen) I might explode. I want to be as good as my idols, but in the end being as “good” as someone isn’t what’s important. Being good for -yourself- is. If you want to make art then you have to just do it, there’s no shortcut to working on things for yourself.___
This is long, I know haha. But your questions come from a very unique place, and although I’m not a guru or anything I’ve definitely been in a similar situation. Putting yourself below someone else doesn’t work, because chances are that person is good because they worked at it every day, hours and hours and years of practice to become where they are. The circle is complete when you do the same thing and work hard, then someday you too will have a person wishing they were as “good” as you.

A late trade for my friend svarta-perlan. She didn’t specify a character she wanted drawn so I went with Ren because I think he hasn’t been drawn enough.
Ren belongs to http://svarta-perlan.tumblr.com/
Hey guys! I wanted to start a new little challenge I thought might be fun! I don’t know if this is a thing already, but the idea is basically once a week, on friday, you draw a piece of fanart for an artist you love or a friend who’s important to you! This can be a doodle, a drawing, whatever, of their OC, them, a character they like, etc.!
It’s a good way to not only show appreciation for people that mean a lot to you, but also gets you drawing at the very least once a week. :P
No idea if this will catch on, but wanted to give it a shot. B)
Is Pixiv worth using? Like I’ve had one for years now with both SFW and kinda NSFW art on it but..
It might help a bit. Whenever someone adds your stuff to their favorites, it appears on their watchers’ feeds. Just be wary of japanese legislation that doesn’t allow distribution of fully uncensored content (hence you often see japanese artists lines over penises and nipples) and the community in not very comment-prone
One artwatcher and a birthday
So I put up a preview of artwatcher 0.90 here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/2746012 Being a preview feature means it lacks features from previous versions - namely uploading and stream notifications. I decided to put it since it's been quite a while since the last one, so you can see how it's developing. Users of previous versions will not be asked to update to this one.
Also, 18 this month is my 31st birthday. Over the past years I really didn't feel like announcing my birthday since I didn't feel like I had achieved much through the course of the year but I feel like I should try to get my spirit up this time around.
Canvastilia.net - a site for artists and commissioners
http://canvastilia.net http://canvastilia.net http://canvastilia.net http://canvastilia.net I'm trying a new concept for an art site. Not an art community per se, but rather a place to house commissions/auctions/YCHs and so forth. At this moment it allows auctions and first come-first served. There is also a "choice" method in which you allow anyone to post commission requests and then you choose the ones you're going to take, but I have not performed any tests on it yet. In addition, there is a point system for when you are opening for commissions of varied complexity levels - it even allows you to sell multiple commissions in an auction. As it is in a test stage, selling is disabled for new entrants, but it's free for anyone to join and buy/bid on existing sales/auctions. I will set my patreon later to fund through it (paid users will have benefits) but for now you can message me, if you convince me you'll be able to try it for selling your commissions, I might enable it for you ;)
Kicking off my art year with giant robots
Random robot design that came into mind. I've been thinking about stories involving giant robots and this guy might appear, I really liked the design
