So I’m working on a pretty big project...Calling ALL fans!
If you’ve ever followed my YouTube channel, you might remember that about a year ago, I released a video called Fanfiction As A Genre. It was a brief study in the history and importance of fanfiction to the literary community as a whole.
Well, since then, I’ve been expanding on the idea, and currently, I am in the process of researching for a much bigger project on the topic of fandoms and fan culture as a whole. It’s going to be my first nonfiction book, and I’m incredibly excited to dive deeper into a world that I am happily already a part of.
But I need your help.
I need you, if you have the time, to fill out this survey for me as an important part of my research process. I’m posting this exact message on several of my social media platforms, in the hopes of reaching as many people as possible for the most diverse and representative data possible. You won’t be asked for any identifying information, the survey is completely anonymous, all I ask is that you help me show off what a strange, interesting, weird, and wonderful thing it is to be a fan of something or someone.
I found the artist who made @markiplier ’s icon
I remember Mark talking about not knowing the artist on WIRED’s Google’s autocomplete interview, so this came mind!
She is yungdenpa on Deviantart - here is the link to the art on DA ⬇️⬇️⬇️
dang isnt my title gr8 or what speedpaint is here:
She also made a speed paint on youtube (uploaded in 2013, man, such a long time) ⬇️⬇️
Spread a word about this artist, and let’s give credit to the person who created the icon that’s been with us for so long!

The JSE Community Survey - Responses
Hi again guys! So I made a survey for the community (I’ll reblog this again with a link, just bc I want this to show up in the tag and IDK if links do) out of curiosity, inspired by @kenmarlenn‘s Markiplier Community Survey. Here’s what our community looks like based on the 421 responses I’ve gotten so far!
About 73% of responders were female, followed by 7% transgender folks, 6% agender/bigender folks, 3% male folks, and the remaining 11% being the “Other” option (mostly nonbinary, sorry for forgetting to add that option!). The majority of these people were between 11 and 20 years old (66%), followed by people between 21 and 30 years old (31%), and a couple of folks who were 31-40 years old (2%). We had a total of 2 people respond who were older than 40, which is cool! Most of these responses came from people who were white (80%), but there was a fair amount of representation for Hispanic folks (9%), Asian folks (5%), Black folks (4%), and some Native American peeps (~3%). There were also a lot of write-in answers for the remaining percentage (lots of mixed people, which is neat!). There were also a loooot of people from the US and the UK, with a good smattering of Canadians, Australians, Frenchmen, and Germans. The Netherlands had quite a few folks, as well!
Most people have been watching Jack for between 1 and 3 years (49%), and found him via youtube’s recommendations (47%). People love longer series (84%) and interactive series (70%) and Power Hours (70%). Also, the most prominent form of creation in the community is creating visual art (47%), but most people just enjoy what others create (~79%). More than 50% of people have donated to charity streams, and 10% of people have met Jack at some point.
Also, I left a section where people could leave comments for the community to read and holy shit-
Y’ALL ARE ADORABLE
YOU ROCK!!
So in conclusion, this community is really cool. ^u^
Here’s the responses for the survey!!

Hi guys! Cat here from the team at SPG (makers of The Boss). I saw one of these going around for Mark's community, and was so fascinated by the responses that I decided to make one and see what the JSE community looks like on Tumblr. This is a totally anonymous survey and the only thing the responses will show is the general demographics. Have fun!
Thought this might be fun!
Sorry for the long silence, guys!
