FGM is fucking barbaric and a freaking violation and invasion!

Being a woman of the African Diaspora I am applaud at this ignorance. This work is in obvious protest of this heinous act. “Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the ritual cutting or removal of some or all of the external female genitalia. The practice is found in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and within communities from countries in which FGM is common.”

Victor is of Jamaican heritage and like myself lives and works in New York. Like MOAL, Victor and I have developed a rather close friendship only a fellow artist could share. He supports me and holds me up in times when I really needed his support.

The work is inspired by the African Mask and the philosophy of cubism wit h a bold message invoking action.

Collaborations is the way forward. I love the work of MOAL and as suck we tend to collaborate often. His masculine energy is sexy and chaotic at times. Confident, arrogant and rude, imaginative, creative and bold describes this beast of a man. His wife thinks we’re fucking and is often pissed when I go to Florida to wok on projects with him and hide away from the winter blues of New York City. The truth is this beast of a man is very fuckable, however we are not fucking and I wish the wife would leave us be while we continue to Evoke Empower and Collaborate with each other.

There are two Adinkra Symbols attached to this work.

1. WAWA ABA

"seed of the wawa tree"

symbol of hardiness, toughness and perseverance The seed of the wawa tree is extremely hard. In Akan culture, it is a symbol of someone who is strong and tough. It inspires the individual to persevere through hardship.

2. GYE NYAME

"except for God"

symbol of the supremacy of God This unique and beautiful symbol is ubiquitous in Ghana. It is by far the most popular for use in decoration, a reflection on the deeply religious character of the Ghanaian people

The design of Nkyinkyim depicts the tortuous nature of life’s journey. These twists and turns require one to be versatile and resilient to survive. The proverb associated with this symbol is “Ɔbra kwan yɛ nkyinkyimii,” which literally means “Life’s journey is twisted.”

Pink marks the movement globally. Pink for breast cancer awareness, hot pink for passionate gay sex, and pink for girlish folly. “The color pink is the color of universal love of oneself and of others. Pink represents friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability. Pink is the official color for little girls andrepresents sugar and spice and everything nice.”

This work started off as a menstrual hut, but morphed into something more UNIVERSAL AND SPIRITUAL. It features a central hut and a gathering of women, some pronounced some ghosted. Take special not of the rainbow flag in the lower right corner.

Love For Senegal By Jackson Shuri 2019 OMG)))) WHAT AN EXPERIENCE

Special and dear to my heart is the West African Country of Senegal.

The Year 2018 was an amazing year for me!!! Senegal was my first stop on the Continent of Africa. I was there during the month of Ramadan: FYI “Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان) or Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the month in which the Quran was revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Fasting during the month of Ramadanis one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset.”

The Dakar Biennale brought me to Dakar Where I exhibited in a Solo OFF Exhibition at Le Grand Théatre National.

This is the result of ongoing collaborations between Jackson Shuri and M.O.A.L in the spirit of community, unity, and making global noise showcasing disdain in the form of social commentary through art and the merging of artistic techniques. Spray painted street art, versus the laborious hand painted organic academic brush strokes beautifully marries demonstrating power created when we work together, for we are stronger together. The contemporary state of humanity as it pertains to the inhumane treatment of marginalized immigrants in the United states and around the world, is of great concern to Jackson and M.O.A.L . M.O.A.L means- (Mind Of A Lunatic). M.O.A.L served for 10 years in the United States army and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder rendering the artist a lunatic. M.O.A.L uses art to help us understand that war isn’t pretty! This work demonstrates the need to take a stand- be half man/ be half ape, be wild and unruly when it comes to protecting your civil liberties. M.O.A.L elevates the Gorilla often seen as wild and unruly, to the status of King of the jungle because of its strength and humanoid appearance and connection. You’re looking at a symbol defiance towards the fucked-up policies America once known as the giant of the western world has instituted and the ways in which she tramples the value of minority lives. America you have and has been failing us miserably. In the words of the current idiot in the Whitehouse, lets truly work to make America Great again. The Ape is place atop and centre the United States Flag abstracted by Jackson Shuri. The rainbow colours crowns the head of the Gorilla reminding us that all the colours make society work! Black is required for all other colors to have depth and variation of hue. The black color is the absence of color. Yellow- On one hand yellow stands for freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism, enlightenment, remembrance, intellect, honor, loyalty, and joy, but on the other, it represents cowardice and deceit. A dull or dingy yellow may represent caution, sickness, and jealousy. At times I have been afraid to carry my own cross At times I have failed to carry my Own cross At times I have sunk so deep into darkness that I use sex and red wine to bring me out of it. At times I have had to paint my way out of the darkness

when you initially see this work, the concept or science of Brain mapping may come to your mind. (((But what is Brain Mapping))) “Brain mapping is a set of neuroscience techniques predicated on the mapping of (biological) quantities or properties onto spatial representations of the (human or non-human) brain resulting in maps. “

The work started on the East coast and was completed on the West Coast of the United States. I grabbed the stencil of my friends Iconic Image and decide to make it feminine by adding pink and abstracting the beast. I was about to embark on a journey from the east coast to the west coast, that is, travel from Florida to San Francisco. Florida on the east coast, San Francisco on the Far west coast. I heard so much about this San Francisco. I heard it was a place that nurtured and inspired artists. I heard that Majuanna flowed freely and that a hippie lifestyle thrived. it was chilly and not as cold as New York. I loved it.

I took the Bus to San Francisco and spent over 5 days on the road. I had no clue as to where I would stay, at the time Craig’s List had a personal add section. I placed an ad and found me a sugar daddy who furnished me with an amazing apartment for the duration of my stay. Life was good till I stopped fucking him.

I met a Jazz musician who would supply me with all the edible chocolate I needed to achieve my dose of THC. I don’t smoke, but I d consume THC by eating. I told a friend I met a pothead and was aggressively corrected. My friend was sure to point out that my supplier is a connaisseur and not a pothead. It was sweet hanging out with him as he would take me places and to Jazz events and he loved to eat.
