This was a great day about a month ago. My kid actually wanted to go sail our Laser Sailboats! I couldn’t resist bringing the ‘ol camera. Hopefully many more to come, but you know teen agers. Fun on Lake Arlington with the Arlington Yacht Club

Weekly Note From the Commodore
Hello to all... If you didn't attend the social last weekend, you missed a wonderful time. The Stew, cornbread and rolls were tasty and well received. The desserts were wonderful. Sharon made "stout" cupcakes with "Baileys" icing and Key Lime Pies. After dinner we sat and visited and had a really good time. The weather cooperated and was wonderful.
Our next social is April 9, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. We will be serving, BBQ chlcken, Cowboy potatoes, baked beans, salad, and surprise desserts. Bring your favorite adult beverage, if you like. There will be a $5.00 per person fee for this social. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us.
Please RSVP to me at [email protected] (not to the website) so that we may plan for the appropriate amount of food.
The retrievable dock is well under way. I was told today that the "tongue" is in progress and that they plan to add more floats.
I believe that the laser sailors plan to race this Sunday. If anyone else is interested, please plan to come out and play.
The hail storm that came through this morning tore several strips in the tents, but Doug says they are reparable. We probably need to do that repair as soon as possible to keep the tears from getting worse.
I'm not sure when Howard wants to have another work party, but we really need to get out to the club as soon as it drys out a little and mow and weed eat or we are going to be walking in hip high grass.
It would probably be a good idea to come out an check your boats as well, to determine if you suffered any damage. Some of the hail that hit the club was golf sized and even a little bigger.

Hello friends; Our March social will be on Saturday, March 12, 2016 starting around 6:30 p.m. We will be serving Beef Stew, cornbread, rolls, and desserts. Bring your favorite adult beverage and we will have tea and coffee. Our Founder's day celebration was a lot of fun, and we missed any of you who weren't there. Mark your calendar and come and have fun with us on the 12th. Please RSVP to me at [email protected] or call me at 214 202 0920. We want to have plenty of food, so let me know if you will join us.
On another note, if you haven't volunteered to do a Sunday lunch, please contact Rich Laffey and do so. They are not hard to do, and if you have any reservations or questions, I will be happy to meet with you and show you what to do and how to plan for one. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Progress is being made on the retrievable dock. We will keep you advised as to when we hope to launch the new dock and resume our racing series. See you at the club.

Hello again AYC, This upcoming Sunday will be another round of Brown Bag Lunches! Please review the attached Lunch Schedule to make sure your name is on it! We are asking every member to host lunch one Sunday this year. Please check your calendar and volunteer for a week that will work for you. The racing is anticipated to start very soon. Weekly Note From the Commodore
We had a really nice Founder's Day Celebration last Saturday night. The weather cooperated nicely and our new event tents allowed us to be comfortable. We sat after dinner and visited and I believe everyone had a good time. A reminder that we are continuing to have Sunday lunch and are getting the chase boats ready to start back up on our racing schedule. Additionally, we are working on getting a retrievable dock ready to go. It will be one with wheels that we push out into the water and then pull back in when we are through with it. Hopefully it will be ready in the near future. On another note, Howard Webb's mother passed away and he has gone to Wisconsin. Please keep Howard and Elaine and his family members in your thoughts and prayers. We are still exploring possibilities for a more permanent spot for our club. As things develop, we will keep you informed. Please come out to the club and put a club boat in, or your boat and go sailing, or for the next few days just come out and enjoy the beautiful--unseasonal--weather. See you soon. I restored a Laser a couple years ago. This is the final vid of the restoration process. I love it because it was a great day sailing with my kids!

Laser sailboats provide a sailing experience like no other, By Stephen Goettle
The Laser sailboat is a fun, fast, one-person boat that draws the sailor into a unique connection with the natural elements of wind and water. Designed by Bruce Kirby, the Laser hit the marketplace in the late 1970s, immediately impressing consumers with its simplicity and efficiency. The craft is 13 feet 10.5 inches long and features 76 square feet of sail for added power and speed. It performs well in light and heavy breezes and is a perfect boat for weekend recreation. It is not surprising that Kirby chose to name his original prototype the Weekender. In the mid-1980s engineers seeking to improve on the original design developed the Laser Radial Rig, a slightly modified mast and sail for greater speed in racing. It is considered an optimal choice for those wishing to train for the Laser Olympics. Additional improvements to the Laser rigging have made the boat easier to sail, especially in terms of a single sailor being able to “multitask” on the boat. But, all in all, the original design of this magnificent sailing machine has remained largely untouched. Stephen Goettle is a financial services professional who enjoys sailing Lasers and skiing in his free time.
