“thank you..but for now I think ill be okay its not even that cold yet..” Lucien said with a little shrug, pulling his feet up onto the couch and curling up with the blanket, thankful for the warmth it gave. Lucien smiled at the compliment, “Thank you, I’ve been speaking it fluently since I was ten, so I’ve had a lot of practice. I can also speak Spanish, Portuguese, and a little German.” he said proudly, as languages had always been a passion of his. “Charm..yeah I guess so.”
“Really?” he inquired, genuinely impressed. “It’s rare to find an American that is even bilingual, let alone fluent in 5 languages. Have you ever considered becoming a translator? That is very impressive, I must admit. You could possibly get into the United Nations with a linguistic palate like that. Even I am only bilingually fluent.”
ruthguthrie:
“It’s not the functioning, sir. I care about the patients as much as my heart can surrender to them – which is a lot. I’m not taken as someone who most people these days tend to care for – Let alone, sometimes, respect.” A soft smile draped across her face as she took his hand and shook with a gentle movement. “Ruth Guthrie. I’m the new chaplain here.”
“I do not doubt that you do, and I do not doubt that they don’t. Unfortunately, many people equate differing beliefs to worthlessness, and do not see the value in agreeing to disagree.”
“What is your religion, if I may ask? I was never deeply religious, and so I apologize in advance if I say anything offensive or inappropriate and I implore you to correct me.”
chilcs:
“Just a lot of anxiety. A lot on my mind. I don’t think I’m used to this environment yet.”
“Then, yes. For the condition, that is normal. You might need more time to adjust. From a patient’s perspective, I can imagine an in-patient facility is very confining.”
“Do you have any established anxiety coping methods?”
deirdrefrank:
“Do I? I left my advil at home. My back pain makes me tense up, but I didn’t think people noticed.” She rubbed her lower back with one hand.
“Could be a unique circumstance. I tend to be, ah... overly-attentive. A byproduct of the profession, I hypothesize. I wouldn't worry that it's conspicuous. I have acetaminophen if you’d like some.”
marivasqxuz:
“I’m not tense..” Mari said nervously as she looked around. “Are you my new doctor?” she asked, trying to change the topic.
“If you would like me to be, yes.”
e-lizabxth:
“I’m not tense, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Elizabeth said, her tone defensive as she stared at the doctor. “You gonna try and head shrink me too?”
The psychologist inhaled gently, silent for a moment before shaking his head, relaxed. “Not if it is not warranted.”
aubrey--harkin:
She looked down for a moment and said “I don’t know, I guess it’s kind of the latter… I don’t know, maybe it’s both… My doctors decided that instead of trying to get me to eat on my own, they’re going to shove food down my throat and I’m going to just deal with it apparently. I mean, is it just me?… Am I the only one who understands that that couldn’t ever possibly work?… That doesn’t make any sense at all.”
“I must admit that I agree with you wholeheartedly. I tend to take a more unorthodox approach with my own patients -- something that gets looked down upon by many of my coworkers. My standard practice is to allow you a predetermined amount of time to adjust to your surroundings, where you’re free to maintain your usual diet. After that period, where you feel more comfortable with this new environment -- because it is constricting and it is unfamiliar -- we begin recovery slowly, never pushing you out of your comfort zone too far. There is a dense anxiety associated with eating disorders, and that is truly what must be catered to before the nutrition, unless of course you are... on your death bed. At that point, more intense medical decisions would have to be made, for the sake of your life. However, although I know nothing of your vitals, you do not appear to be in severe health. It is my opinion that a treatment plan such as the one I’ve described is the most effective, because you can’t conquer an eating disorder until you accept that you have one and need to break the unhealthy habits.”
ruthguthrie:
Ruth’s gaze quickly lifted up to the man’s. “I guess you can say it’s the new kid on their first day of school jitters.” The female hadn’t noticed that she was tense, but she kept the possibility in the back of her head as it was her first day on the job.
“Hmm. Oui, I understand."
“Though your nervousness is unnecessary. The functionality behind Glendale is not demanding or intense. If you care about these patients and act in accordance to that, you will be fine.” The older male paused, extending his hand in greeting. “Dr. Chevalier. You can call me Jacques. What is your... ah, role?”
semiautomaticemilia:
“I’m deeply offended that you think I’m tense. Do I look tense? No. So shut up. You don’t know what I’m feeling. Who do you think you are, anyway? I’ve never seen your face before, you some guy pretending to be some shrink?”
“You look very tense to me. Pretending? My licenses to practice would suggest otherwise. Dr. Chevalier. I apologize for offending you; I have only your best interests in mind.”
chilcs:
“I just haven’t had proper sleep in a long time. Is that normal?”
“That depends on what has been preventing you from sleeping.”

Speaking with patients always yielded different, unpredictable results and sometimes it didn’t matter how reasonable Jacques was, he would have to deal with angry patients all the same. “Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with that until I’m confident you’re mentally well enough to be discharged. In some time, though.”
grayxban:
“Do I really?” Gray asked, tilting their head lightly in question. They certainly didn’t feel tense. Was this a nicer way of telling Gray they looked tired/like hell? “I’m fine, I’m fine. It’s so nice of you to ask though.” The Brit responded with a polite smile. “How are you doing?”
“Oui. Slightly. Although, sometimes stress works beneath the surface and makes us tense without us truly realizing it.” Jacques cracked a grin, for once in his life relieved to have small talk. “I am... relaxed. I think the rain is refreshing. Reminds me of home.”
lucienmarch:
“Oui! J'ai appris la langue comme un enfant.” The man said with a grin, “It is a nice place but I would much rather be in France in I were you. I visited when I was in high school it was lovely.” He said with a nod. “Yes I know…but I don’t really want to be a bother about the clothes..or draw any more attention to myself by wearing winter clothes.” He said quietly, hugging the blanket tighter around himself.
“I will always implore you to prioritize your health over the fear of judgement from others, however I am very aware how taxing such anxieties can be and so I will leave the offer open to you, should you change your mind.”
“Your French is good. Especially your accent. You might have fooled me into thinking you were a native if we’d met on my soil. I must agree, though, it is a very magnificent country... Things work quite differently here. But the Americas have charm, just as every country does.”
lucienmarch:
“I don’t really think they’re very good with keeping patients comfortable here.” Lucien said with a little shrug, picking at lose threads on the ends of his sweater sleeves now. The French made him perk up, he always did love the language and it was one of the only things he stuck with through all of his father’s attempts in creating a prodigy out of him as a child. “You’re French, right? I thought I recognized the accent but I didn’t want to say anything without knowing..” he’s been to the country a few times in his later years of high school and the summer before college. He took the warmer looking patched up quilt, wrapping it around himself tightly. “I don’t really think warmer clothes will make me any warmer really..” he said with a little shrug.
“Hmm,” he murmured, thoughtfully. That might be something he would bring up in the staff’s next meeting. “Oui, je suis. Parles-tu francais?” he questioned, following up in English. “I came to the States for university and the country grew on me, really. Hmm, well, it is common with your condition. The lack of body fat makes it much more difficult to retain heat. Outside insulation might be necessary. It truly would not be a problem for me to put in an early request for a winter outfit for you, if you’d like. I’m very certain it would be approved.”
jxnastomm:
His mind grew louder as the seconds passed. He knew he probably shouldn’t say or inform of anything else, but he saw it as the only time he might be able to. With a slight nod of his head, he began to flip to the front of the notebook. Once there, he tore out a few pages where he had written some of the things that they had said to him and made him write down to always have a constant reminder. As he approached the page he was at, he handed the torn out pages to the doctor. THEY MAKE ME WRITE THEM DOWN TO HAVE A CONSTANT REMINDER ABOUT THEM. Jonas’s face was drowned with the look of despair and worry. He knew the voices were angry with him and they were more than angry. THERE’S BEEN WORSE. WE’D BEEN LIVING TOGETHER AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER AND HERE RECENTLY, I CRACKED UNDER THERE PRESSURE AND WORDS. THAT’S WHY I AM HERE. SINCE WE’VE GOT HERE, THEY ….. He ended it there, not wanting to say anymore.
Jacques could see the panic in his patient, but he allowed Jonas to continue, trying to simultaneously scan over the torn out pages and what the younger male was currently writing. The doctor inhaled deeply as he took it all in, nodding solemnly as the patient halted. “I will begin by saying this -- breathe, son. The voices, they are loud in your mind, I can tell. The first step I believe we must take is to attempt to quiet them a bit, to hush their volume. They have influence on you, oui? You do not have to finish what you were saying if you do not want to, however, it might help me to better help you. What makes them louder? What have you tried already to combat them?”
lucienmarch:
Lucien couldn’t help the small thankful smile that appeared on his face as the man spoke of him keeping with his usually eating habits for a while. It calmed him to know he would be allowed to do that, and not be forced to eat more than his body and his mind could handle. He nodded, confirming the other doctor’s name, sitting quietly as he waited for the doctor to finish typing and to finish speaking. “Thank you..I um..things have been very difficult for me lately and its reassuring to know I won’t be forced to eat…even though the food is very good. I don’t hate food..just eating.” he said in a quiet voice, as it seemed his volume never exceeded a soft tone. Lucien sat quietly for a little while, arms wrapped around himself, hiding his small waist. “Do you have a blanket?” he asked, even quieter than before, like he was scared to be told no.
The man nodded, offering a consoling grin in return. “I’m sure they have been. I must admit I am very disappointed in the physician that assigned you that meal plan. It is too drastic of a change. Change must happen slowly for one to adapt comfortably.” Jacques nodded again, noticing the patient’s stance. “Oui,” he reassured quickly, standing to stride over to one of the closets in his office and pull out two folded blankets, one a deep blue hue and the other more of a homey stitch, patched but very warm. He offered both to the patient. “You look very cold. Do you need warmer clothes?”
