Yes, "everyone" has written about David Hockney (1937-2026}, and now I add my little song. That is because Hockney was one of the greatest, most gifted and versatile artists of his time. Fortunately, however sad Hockney's passing may be, his work remains. And that is still a source of joy.
You have until 3 May 2026 to see Amsterdam’s ‘‘Red Lights District’’ in a different light – literally. Instead of prostitutes in windows, this ‘‘Warmoes Biennale’’ puts on show art works in shops and bars,. An initiative that allows you to (re)discover this historic and picturesque neighbourhood.
In the seventies, Fong Leng created the most extraordinary, extravagant and beautiful fashion imaginable. Since the mid-eighties, she devotes herself to art. Now, two exhibitions in The Netherlands show Fong Leng's fashion creations, Museum Jan and Kasteel Ruurlo. Worth a visit!

Just some thoughts about remembrance, and in particular that of the Shoah. Way too often, the present reminds me of the past. In too many countries, people are persecuted for whatever reason. Doors and borders remain closed to people in search of a safe place. When are we going to learn if at all?
This exhibition in the "New Church" (Nieuwe Kerk) in Amsterdam is about 450 years of history - of Jewish history as well of history of the town. The Jewish community is so much intertwined with Amsterdam, that the nickname of the town is a Yiddisch word : Mokum - THE town. The place to be...
After WWI, Europe had completely changed - and so had its art. Artists abandon abstraction, and return to realism, be it in different ways. Their paintings reflect the changes that took place, and that happened all over Europe. A splendid exhibition in Museum MORE shows it all. Worth the trip.

Her art works are huge, and so is the artist, Magdalena Abakanowicz. She works with textile, but her sculptural works can't be called tapestries. So they have been baptised "abakans". Go and see them, presently in two Dutch museums, Textielmuseum and Noordbrabants Museum. Worth the trip.
Srebrenica, 11 July 1995, 30 years ago. The Serbian-Bosnian army kills over 8000 muslim men and boys. Apart from the memorial at their burial site, a new, "mobile memorial" has been created, and ceremonies take place all over the world. Exhibitions too - at present in The Hague. Lest we forget.
You are in or near Amsterdam, you'd like a nice city walk, far from the madding crowd? Take a walk around ‘ArtZuid’, the (9th!) sculpture biennale that is always interesting, always worth a visit. It's free, it's in one of the greenest areas of this town, and there is a lot to see.

Ten years ago, when the Museum MORE (for Modern Realism) opened its doors, realistic art was considered somewhat marginal. Things have changed, as shows the exhibition that celebrates the museum's tenth anniversary. Realistic art now is as varied as can be, and that makes it so interesting.

It's difficult to define Abdelkader Benchamma's work. His technique: drawings - from very small to huge murals. Theme? You can call it landscapes - magical, fantastic landscapes, often just black and white, sometimes with some colours added. Always fascinating. Now in Noordbrabants museum.
