According to her client, the brunch conference scheduled an hour and a half in the future needed way more coffee than she had in stock. If it kept the guests at Icaria Hall from throwing a fit, she was going to get those grounds. Everything else was ready. And she was pretty single-minded in her mission for coffee supplies until she encountered her ex by happenstance on the way to the grocer. Chloe was probably one of the easiest people on the island to read. As a result, it was incredibly difficult for her to hide the obvious apprehension on her countenance. “Oh. Hi, Jade. How are you doing?” Chloe usually had way more words in her. “Want to join me on an errand? Or not.” No, that was not how this conversation was supposed to go.
Technically speaking, Jade was unemployed. Well, between jobs. Okay, so, she was living off of the money she’d made on the previous line she had sold and furiously trying to create another. But every artist needed a break, and Jade was no different. Rosie also needed a break, according to her dancing around Jade’s legs, begging for attention. As Jade walked down the street, allowing Rosie to stop and greet every passerby -- just like her mom (one of them anyway) -- Jade couldn’t but smile.
Rosie, naturally, went crazy the second they ran into Chloe. The golden retriever started pulling on her leash, running towards her second mother, and Jade forced herself to remain calm. It wasn’t the coolest entrance, but they had chosen to become mothers together previously. “I’m good, just taking a break. You look great,” she said, immediately turning on her charming persona. “Rosie and I have time for an errand,” Jade agreed, watching as Rosie practically salivated from excitement at seeing Chloe. “You wanna walk her for a minute? What’s the errand?”
