We all need to say thank you to Zhu Zanjin (Meng Yao’s actor) for making the line where he asks Lan Xichen to stay and die with him so full of soft gay longing. Originally script called for him to say it “fiercely”, like a demand. Zanjin told the director it didn’t feel right and asked him to let him try it as /he/ thought Meng Yao would say it, and the scene is what we ended up with.

So thank you Zhu Zanjin for being so dedicated to your character and knowing him so well! You gave us what we all needed 🙏🏻
