Day One: Overwhelm

She had told him.

Jaesalia lifted the heavy satchel that contained all that she held important in the world and stepped off onto the path that would lead her to the main road near her father’s house. Her father’s house. Not hers any longer. Her heart beat wildly in her chest as she walked on, Sage at her side. He let out a concerned soft yowl and she paused, digging her fingers into his furry collar. She steadied herself and pressed onward.

Torad Moondown had not reacted well to the news that she had given up her Farstrider title. It hadn’t mattered that she had said she’d be staying in Quel’thalas to help fight the Void. All that had mattered was that she had shattered the family legacy. He hadn’t kicked her out, not out loud, but the heavy tension in the house had been too much to bear. So she had gathered her things; a spare outfit, her journal, her mother’s book of dried flowers. And had left.

It was an overwhelming mess of feelings that laid itself bare in her heart. Grief, elation, a pragmatic dullness that seemed to be winning the fight against the other two heaviest emotions. She was preparing for a shift in who her commanding officer would be. She had given herself up to the Horde itself. They welcomed her with open arms, not caring for title or who her family was. She’d be given the choice of partner in crime once she was settled into the Wayfarer’s Rest.

She was hoping that she’d run into a certain Gilnean hunter. The pairings in this war mattered little. Even if they were with the ‘other side’. Factions didn’t matter when Azeroth itself was at stake.

She walked onward towards Silvermoon and an uncertain new beginning.

Two. "Don't Move."

The command was given and she froze mid-bite. A hand fell on her shoulder before her father sat down next to her. “At ease.” Jaesalia let out the breath she had been holding, blue eyes narrowing angrily on her father.

“Why did you tell me to freeze? We are at home, not on patrol.”

Torad shot his daughter a look but softened slightly. “I was testing how you were coming along. I see no fault in testing you, daughter.”

The female sighed and continued eating.

“Yes, Daddy.”

One: Spark of a Match

It was a balmy clear night in Eversong Woods. Jaesalia sat in front of a small campfire at the edge of a clearing. She had just finished with her patrol route and was ensconced for the night, laying beside her companion, Sage. The feline gave a great yawn and shifted closer to his master and friend. The Ranger gave him a quiet, happy sigh, “Yes, yes, I know. I should be asleep. We’ve got an early morning…” Her words were spoken softly and with a touch of hoarseness found only in those who didn’t speak a lot.

Jaesalia was a shy thing, not quite three turns into her gig as a Farstrider. She was still an acolyte, despite her many patrols and two…TWO…raids on the Amani that still roamed on the edges of Sin’dorei territory. She had hoped to be further along than this. She pulled her knees to her chest and leaned back against Sage. What was it that she was lacking?

Doubt crept in and festered in her skull for a few moments, her gaze lost in the dancing fire. She scowled at the feeling and shook it away. Perhaps it was time to try and find out what was holding her back. She needed a spark to light her way.
