Hi! Welcome to the beginning of my first full length YYH fanfic, I Thought You Couldn't See Me Now.
Summary: After the events of Yu Yu Hakusho, Kurama, now known as Suichi Minamino, decides to go to college. He takes peace in knowing that his dealings with the demon world, as well as any of his actions as Yoko Kurama, are far behind him. That is until he meets Sakurako Ishihara, a quiet nursing student who is the reincarnation of the powerful demon kitsune, Kikyo.

I am used to blood.
Being a healer in the demon world, it comes with the territory. But the amount spilling out of the demon before me is a lot even by my standards. I work quickly, not letting my initial shock keep me from what needs to be done. I thread my spider’s silk string through my needle, and begin to stitch the demon’s wounds. His screams make me lament the fact that there is no time for anesthetics. I glance at his face in between stitches. His golden eyes wince, and his white ears are pinned back to his scalp in distress.
We are similar, he and I. We are both fox demons. The difference being that I am a Zenko Kitsune, or a benevolent protector, and he is a Yoko, a mischievous trickster. This is part of the reason we find ourselves in our present roles. Him- a thief wounded in a heist- and I- a healer sparing his life. Despite our differences, I see myself in him. I pity him.
Fifteen agonizing stitches later, the gash spanning from his shoulder to elbow is closed. He fainted from the pain by the time I reached his bicep. I place a blanket over him and let him rest. His body is in shock and needs plenty of rest. While he sleeps, I clean my tools in hot water. It never ceases to amaze me, the ease with which such evidence of violence is washed away. I place them one by one in my surgeon’s case, while saying a silent prayer that it lets me save many more lives.
Then, I take care of myself. I’m soaked in enough blood and sweat to merit a bath. I undo my long, knee length braids and allow my white hair to fall freely over my shoulders. I heat the bath water with my demon energy, while simultaneously removing my bloodstained garments. I enter the bath one foot at a time, before gently lowering myself into the water. I let it wash away the blood and trauma of the afternoon from me as it did my surgical tools. I let out a deep breath that I didn’t realize I was holding. I’d probably held it in my lungs since the yoko entered my home. He was pained, but uncannily calm on my doorstep, holding his wounded arm with his opposite hand in a futile effort to stop the blood flow. I didn’t know how long it had taken him to come to me, but it’s a miracle he didn’t faint from blood loss on the way. I shudder, remembering the look of his exposed muscle and bone. Then, I submerge my shoulders beneath the warm water in an attempt to wash away the memory.
Damn, that took a lot out of me. Healing not only takes physical energy but also demon energy. The hot water is so calming… I close my eyes...
