Mark Rothko, No. 8, 1964 oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas 105 ¼ × 80 ¼ in. (266.7 × 203.2 cm) National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
I am replacing our old somewhat washed out scan with a better new one, the dark paintings look different everywhere, even different from tumblr to somewhere else on the web. I have noticed over the last few years one of the big issues is the amount of brown/plum tint harnessing the black as well as how much direct light (warm or cool) is on the picture.
I have seen this person and under those conditions, I saw very little border but more of a very dark painting with warm highlights in the middle. It just depends on the room and the camera.
All that aside, our old scan was very old and this is far superior. Appropriate for our dark days.

Did someone actually paint Adam and Steve in the Garden of Eden?
