"I can so say that I’ve never thought about it" Kira said looking over at Jake as he sat beside her on the bench. "Cause I’ve never thought about running away. I’m fourteen I’d have no where to go if I did run off and never come back"

"You're probably the only person, then. I bet everyone else has thought about running away at least once," he said, unsure if he should believe her. Even he'd thought about running away once or twice -- granted, it was a totally different situation, involving a bag or two of body parts and a heavy blanket of guilt that he carried with him everywhere, but the thought remained the same.

"Why would I escape?" Kira asked looking at the orderly as she sat on the bench. "Yeah I know, if I was running away or trying to escape which I wasn’t going too I wouldn’t be able to go anywhere. It’s not like I got money or anything"

"You ask as if the idea was unthinkable -- but come on, you can't say that you've never thought about it," he said, plunking down on the bench next to her. "Sure, you wouldn't be able to go anywhere, but I can't just let you run off and assume that you're coming back."

"I would of came back. I actually am or was I dunno anymore what Im doing" Kira said rubbing her arm. "I was trying to become an out patient so I can live with my dad"

Again, he sighed. "But, you know that I, uh, don't know whether you're trying to escape or not. I have to stick with you while we're out here at all times, it's just the rules, even if you were going to come straight back," he said. "That's, um, really good and all, but running away isn't going to help with that."

"I thought he'd be at the hospital when he a no show at Starbucks and his cell was off and we were already close by..."

"Why didn't you just let me call him? You gave me the number for his phone there," he said, shaking his head slightly. "You didn't have to run off like that... I mean, what would have happened if he wasn't there, anyway? Were you just going to come back?"

"I wanted to see him" she said as she broke down into tears. "I just wanted to see my dad." Kira wiped her tears "I know it was a dick move and my privileges would be taken away" she mumbled.

Jake grimaced, releasing his hold on her -- if she ran again, he'd just catch her. He'd done it the first time, hadn't he? "I know, Kira," he said, sighing. "But running off isn't the way to do it." She was right though, it was a dick move, because now he had to send in a report that said she'd tried running off. It wasn't likely that she'd get another chance to go into town for a while.

"How long has it been now?" Kira said trying to bite back the sadness in her voice. Before he could reply with the time that they had been waiting since they arrived at Starbucks, the blonde had started to run down the street towards the hospital at Rudy worked at. Kira wanted to see him one way or another

One moment she'd been standing there asking him for his estimate on the time, and the next she was sprinting down the street. He hoped she realized that her chances of being able to do this again in the next few months had gone down to zero. He sprinted after her, not bothering to try and call her back -- she wouldn't listen to him. Being that he was probably in better shape than she was -- what could he say, it did cut down on stress to work out once in a while -- he caught up to her pretty quickly, pulling her against him so that she'd stop running. "What-- what are you-- what are you doing?" he finally managed to sputter.

"I think it's either turned off or dead. The robotic voice said the user was unavailable" Kira said holding it out to him before she grabbed her jacket and walk outside mumbling that she needed some air.

If her intention by saying she 'needed some air' was to get some alone time, she was going to be disappointed. He wasn't allowed to leave her alone, especially outside the building. So, he followed her out, stuffing his phone back into his pocket. He had a feeling that Rudy was going to remain a 'no-show', but he wasn't sure how long she wanted to wait before they called it quits.

"Thought I wasn't suppose to be allowed to use the phone?" She asked as she took the cell anyways waiting for her dad to answer the call. A frown appeared on her face as it went to the robotic voice saying that the people she was trying to reach was unavailable. She desperately wanted to hit redial after the call was dropped.

"You're not supposed to use it on your own, without supervision," he told her. She was allowed to use the phone in the most basic definition of use, but she wasn't allowed to dial and he had to watch her. Her frown seemed to be contagious, because as soon as she had done it, he found his own face contorted into the same expression. "He didn't answer?" he asked, though he already knew the answer.

Kira looked up at Jake with a frown. “I want to say his cell but I feel like saying the hospital number. Oh there’s a number on the back, it’s the trauma room number I found it online. Rudy said he was one of the doctors there.” She had kept that paper in her back pocket everyday since Rudy had given her the number in case she snuck into an empty office and wanted to call her dad.

Jake flipped the paper over to observe the number on the back, before turning back to the original two. Her answer wasn't very helpful -- she hadn't chosen a number for him to dial. "I'll dial his cell first," he told her. If she wasn't going to decide, he might as well decide for her. He tapped the number into his phone, pressed the call button, and held it out for her to take.

Kira looked down as she grabbed the phone numbers that Rudy had written down for her, one was his cell phone number, and the hospital and his extention. “Here” She didn’t like that she wasn’t allowed to use the phone. . just wanted to really hear his voice and if he was coming or not. “Sorry about what I said”

"Which one do you want me to dial first?" he asked, pulling out his cell phone once she'd handed the slip of paper to her. He could understand that she might be bothered by the lack of trust of the staff, but really, if they did trust them, could she honestly say she wouldn't misuse it? After all, if he hadn't caught her stealing, he doubted very much that she would have given the item back. He shrugged, having managed to wipe the hurt from his expression -- though it still stung. "It's fine."

"Ever thought that someone would of thought that you could of hurt me when you followed me" she replied with a raised brow, before he told her roughly how long they had been waiting for. "fifteen minutes only? It feels like it been hours and hours. Think I could call him?"

Jake flinched visibly, trying -- and failing -- to mask that the phrase had bothered him in any way. "I have to do my job," he mumbled, rather defensively. She didn't really have any right -- outside the freedom of speech, that was -- to hackle him about what people might think of him. She was the patient in a mental hospital, after all, and the stereotypes of men who followed women to the bathroom didn't really compare to those that were placed on mental patients, he didn't think. Besides, no one had bothered him about it. "If you tell me the number, I can dial for you," he told her. She wasn't supposed to use the phone on her own.

"I wasn’t gonna do anything" she mumbled as she tugged on her sweater sleeve as she was scared the purple band would peek out at some time. Kira looked around the coffee shop trying to see if Rudy had come when she was in the washroom. "How long as it been?" She asked trying to find a clock in the Starbucks.

Jake only shrugged. "It, uh, doesn't really matter. I have to follow you anyway -- you know, protocol, or something," he replied, glancing down at his watch. "Um -- fifteen minutes? Give or take?" It hadn't actually been that long, though waiting might have made it seem like it had. Time had a way of slowing down when there wasn't much to do.

After a few more minutes staring out the window, the blonde got up and walked towards the rest room, she was getting more nervous with each passing minute. The young girl just stayed in the girls until her nerves settled down a bit before she came back out not wanting Jake to think she was doing anything she wasn’t suppose too.

Sighing, Jake followed her to the restroom, standing outside the door like he was ordered to -- he couldn't let her run off by herself, even if it was only to the bathroom. When she came out, he followed her back to the table, resuming his careful observance of the parking lot. He was sure that if -- sorry, when -- Rudy showed up, Kira would let him know.

Kira looked around the building trying to spot Rudy, she couldn’t find her foster dad in the semi crowded coffee shop. ”I don’t see him” The blonde said as she walked over to a empty table that she could see the door so she could spot Rudy when he came in.

He felt a prickle of discomfort at her words -- he wasn't here. He couldn't help but think that it was a bad sign, though he supposed that there was still time for him to show up. He could just be late, got caught up in something. He could still show up. But he couldn't help feeling that it was unlikely -- he hoped that Rudy would prove that feeling wrong. That he would be a good foster father and show up to meet Kira. He didn't say anything as he sat down, watching out the window for him, even though he had no idea what he looked like.

Kira nodded as she continued to play with the bracelet on her wrist that. She leaned back into the seat and saw the Starbucks getting closer and closer. Before Jake turned off the car, she undid her seatbelt climbing out, pulling down her sleeves covering her purple band so the people in the coffee shop didn’t know she was insane.

While he honestly would have preferred for her to wait for him to shut off the engine before she clambered out of the car, he didn't make any move to stop here, merely sighing softly. She was probably just nervous about seeing her foster father -- and could he blame her? Him, of all people? He was anxiety-ridden most of the time, wasn't he? And he fully understood the nervousness behind seeing a member of the family who knew all the horrible little flaws that could get you locked up -- he didn't think he'd survive if he ever had to face that situation with his own father.

"Come on," he told her, beckoning her over so that they could enter the building. It was small, unassuming -- perfect for meeting someone. It also sold fairly decent coffee, which was always a plus. He wasn't sure what Rudy looked like, so he would have to rely on her to lead him in the right direction, but he did hope that he'd shown up. If anyone deserved something nice, it was someone who'd spent far too much time in hospitals.

"Your guess is as good as mine" Kira admitted as she played with the bracelet on her wrist. Even if she only saw her dad a few weeks ago she was nervous about meeting up with him but she was also thinking about the ‘what if’ questions that swam around in her head. "What happens if he doesn’t show?"

He nodded slightly, continuing on his course towards the Starbucks in town. It wouldn't take too long to get there, ten minutes maybe. He glanced over at the girl in the passenger's seat, not exactly equipped with an answer for her -- what did happen if he didn't show up? How long were they supposed to wait for him? "I--" He cut off, shrugging helplessly. "I'm not sure, Kira," he admitted finally, glancing over at her again before returning his focus to the road.

"Guess they didn’t want me to know?" Kira shrugged looking down "That’s the one a couple blocks from the hospital isn’t it?" She said recalling a previous conversation with Rudy about this coffee place by the hospital that he liked.

"I don't know why they wouldn't want you to know -- like I said, it's weird," he told her, pulling out of his parking spot and driving out of the lot, towards the town. "Yeah, it's not too far."
