Fan works based on @spicymancer 's actirangers setting!
Taig, Actiranger 27, Emerald and Aoife, Actiranger 28, Orange – International actirangers from Ireland representing the sibling sports of hurling and camogie.
Do Not Separate
Their hurleys, or camánan, can help as well as harm. Their elemental power is “the clash of the ash”, based on the poetic term for hurling and traditional ash tree associations with strength and healing. They can restore others by tapping them with the heels of their hurleys. By clashing their sticks with another actiranger's implement, they can temporarily supercharge both rangers' strength, speed and powers – and when they clash together, the effect is redoubled!
And since half the fun of sentai are their monsters of the week....
Bulldog – roughhousing cyborg bruiser, bashing the world and it's own its own crudely patchworked body apart in an obsessive chase after its vanished creator.
Conquer – spirit of a blighted tree, bent on transforming the world into its personal bone-orchard. Too many stings from its spiked flails transform its victims into chestnut-headed minions, freed only by cracking them open. Any minion left to escape un-cracked will eventually consume the host completely and grow into a new Conquer.
Hold on tight everyone, off we go!

My latest! Wanted to do something a bit harder, more editorial & direct that usual. Originally made for the Holodeck‘s risobook anthology Future Conditional, ‘The Last to Drown’ imagines the logical outcome our current situation–a global society that privileges whiteness, militarism & extractive capitalism, turning a blind eye to their consequences. As rich as the richest get, as tall as their towers are built, all they’ll be is the last to drown.
Time to make a proper tumblpost for this so you can get a proper look at it–I’ve been playing with risograph recently–and thanks to local print outfit Rope Press I have my first print, ‘Neighbourhood Cats’ available for sale, in a limited edition of 20. It’s big, bright and bold...and one of those cats looks a little unusual.
Go to SpiderOnASnail.bigcartel.com to get your own. And! while stocks last, leave the code NEWHOMETOWNTB in the ‘notes or instructions’ field at checkout to get a second, never-for-sale companion A3 print as a free gift!
Risograph time, @ Rope press! it's so exciting & unreal to see almost exactly what I planned months ago appear on paper, super vibrant, coming out of a machine that looks almost exactly like a b/w office photocopier
Happy new year, wishing you all a happy and prosperous year of the dog!

I originally intended to finish this image in time for the lunar new year of the rooster, but I’m still feeling under the weather after the stress of graduation and moving house, so my progress was slowed down quite a bit. Once it was finished I virtually forgot about the finished piece for a while. Here’s the large chicken though, out in public at last, with the previous lunar zodiac year’s monkey and five bats of good fortune on hand.
here’s the ‘stage’ without the players; a environment I composited by applying digital colour to several separate traditional elements, plus some purely digital touches
the ink drawing, made with a pentel brush pen (I think!) that anchors the figures. I had been looking at woodblock prints wanted to give these lines a straightforward, chiselled-out feeling
I made two traditional drawings with grey ink to describe the directly lit and shadowed surfaces of my characters. I combined them here, one coloured white and the other black, as a test to make sure they described the forms as I wanted them to
I knew these ink wash mountains would be mostly obscured by the foreground in the final image, but I still wanted to know there was something pretty back there. They’re a crude homage to traditional Chinese shan shui painting
I had fun making a small library of plant-life to collage together around the characters in the foreground. I wanted to evoke the fecundity of late spring and early summer
I’m fond of this work in progress snapshot. I flood-fill the figures to start with to test ideas about mood, value and saturation
