She felt herself growing more tired, and she could feel by Jim’s breathing that he was as well. It was quiet between them, but in a comfortable way. She knew she had to take everything one step at a time, but she couldn’t wait to wake up to him in the morning. She’d pictured it before, wondering how he’d look, how he’d act. Would he like the morning? Or would he be like her, and hate having to drag himself out of bed? No matter what, she knew he’d be adorable. She could picture him all disveleshed, his eyes half lidded and his voice husky. She couldn’t wait for it. But in that moment she just needed to sleep. She focused on the beating of his heart under the palm of her. As her eyes shut, she heard his whispered voice and a smile came over her face, wondering if she’d ever get used to him saying that and her stomach wouldn’t flip every single time. “I love you, too,” she muttered, drifting off almost instantly after the words left her lips - as if that’s all she’d been waiting for to drift her into sleep. This was just the start, and that thought excited her. She couldn’t wait for the next day, and the next day, and the next. She’d never felt so… happy with her life, than she did in that moment. It was perfect.
For the past few years he always had to look forward spending time with Pam on moment by moment basis. Sure, they'd spend most of the day together, but there would always be that gap in between work that would leave his mind to wonder. What was she like when she was at home? Would she sit on the couch and watch reruns of her favorite shows after work, or read a book? Would she brush her teeth as soon as she woke up, or after she ate? Would she take the time to make the bed, or simply leave the covers where they lay? All those little insignificant details about her that he still didn't know made him excited about the coming morning as well the days that would follow.
Though he'd never say it out loud, this is what he had thought about the most. Something as simple as sharing the bed with her. Not necessarily is that way, but just falling asleep with her next to him. To have the feel of her hand pressed protectively over his heart and the steady feel of her breath against his neck to sing him to sleep. To be able to hear her whisper those three words, that he never thought he'd hear her say, before he drifted off. If was so perfect, he felt as if this was a page from a book or some cliche romantic comedy. But it wasn't, this was the real thing and couldn't wait to see what the future would hold.
