What the water gave me... James | Brook
James, well concealed under his blanket could not close his eyes. He would turn and turn until his bed sheet were made into a never ending rope of knots. He sighed and pushed the blanket away onto the floor, as it landed with a flop he looked to see as his sleeping room mate Samuel, who looked quite contempt and in deep slumber. He top toed to the door and turned the knob, the doors creaked and James paused head fixated towards Samuel. But to no surprise he was still sound asleep, he got out and closed the door behind him.
The tile floors were cold for the barefooted James, so he walked quick and jumpy steps to try to keep the warmth of his feet. He did not know where he was heading, original plan was the kitchen, but he walked and walked for what seemed like an eternity and only ended up in a similar looking hallway. Might have been the same one. “crap” he mumbled in whisper. He was lost, no way out of it now. He wanted to knock onto the closest door and ask for direction, but he would probably get lectured for knocking this late at night
After a good 15 minutes, he stopped, startled. he saw a shadow in front of him not a good time for a fucking ghost he thought to himself, scared. He slowly moved closer, not knowing what to expect, but he was ready to run for his life. moving closer now, it was a figure, of a woman, walking. James let out a sigh of relief and called “excuse me” as he walked closer to her… No reply “excuse me” he called a bit louder, placing his hand on her shoulder “do you know where the kitchen is?”
Brook was in the middle of just admiring the wall for what ever reason when a clammy hand landed hard on her should. Sputtering and spewing out the water she’d just sipped from a glass she wailed around, glass dropping to the ground and shattering. In front of her was a young man, looking rather sleep deprived. Blinking twice Brook leaned back in to the wall and sighed heavily. “what the shit. You scared me!” she Said almost sternly. Raising a foot out of the puddle of water below her, she quickly glanced up to the man. “ok so…Your cleaning that up yea?”
He backed away, quickly as the glass dropped right in front of him, shattering into a million pieces “I-I-I’m so so-sorry” He paused looking at her for a moment and then burst into laughter. “I don’t mean to laugh but you should see the look on your face” he fell into silent laughter, after all everyone was trying to sleep. “Clean it!” he exclaimed! “no way!” “you’re the one who dropped it!” he said, trying to prove his innocence. after a moment of silent, he heard a door get unlocked “okay here is the deal, we stay here and argue about who cleans this up, or we make a run for it before we get in trouble” James was not tugging onto her arm “let’s go to the kitchen and get you and me some water” he was so thirsty he could have started licking the water off of the floor “we don’t have much time to to think about this!”
James Knight: What the water gave me… James | Brook
The sound of the door clicking and the arm grabbing her wrist made adrenalin run through Brook. She loved these types of games. Avoid the doctor or pissed off maniac. “fine have it your way! But if anyone finds out” she smirked towards him. barefooted on the cold tiled floor was not the best way to get around but making it through a few doors and halls like so was the best the two were doing. Stopping at the end of a hall Brook turned to James. “so James, if thats your name. what are you in for?” she less than quietly asked, pushing oven a swinging door. Leading to a large kitchen. The door made a small squeak as she pushed it, wincing slightly at the sound she hopped over a counter and made her way to a sink for water.
“No one is going to find out!” He laughed as he ran after her “even if they did would you be scared?” he mocked “do you want me to call mommy for you” he laughed harder and started running faster. Turning around the halls and running through some doors, James must have stepped onto something because his feet were suddenly paining. She finally pushed through the final door and there it was, a huge white kitchen. It took time for Jame’s eyes to adjust to the lighting. “yes my name is James, James Knight. Nice to meet you” he saw her poor herself a cup of water and he couldn’t help but admire her hair. “what am I in here for” he repeated “jump straight to the subject why don’t we” he joked “Sleeping pills, I got addicted to them” he paused “I’m having a really hard time without them, why else would I be lurking around in the dark” He got himself a cup from the cupboard and waited for her to finish “what are you in here for?”
Brook’s eyes snapped up to James, Puzzled with the question she began tracing her thumb over her glass. “I take it Mommy could not sing you a good enough lullaby?” She muttered jokingly. Dumping her water, she began pacing about the kitchen. Her hands landing on the cold element of a large stove. “I’m here because I lie.” She glanced towards him to see if he’d reacted. A smile played at her lips as she turned the stove on and held her hands over the element. “They keep this place disgustingly cold. Don’t you agree pills guy?”
“no she did not sing me a lullaby” “he said, voice now lowered. He walked over to the sink and turned the tap knob. Water started seeping slowly. “I don’t know my mother” he said placing his cup under the water. “and my stepmom is…” he took a swig of the cold water, followed by a sigh of relief “let’s just say she wasn’t the best parent figure” ” usually, parents keep the legs closed” he joked. A shock of pain ran through his feet again, with a grunt of pain he fell to the floor ” this… This cold tile is really hurting my feet” he complained ” it’s like I can’t feel them. ” maybe they don’t put on the heat so wanderers like us are forced to go sleep” he joked.
Tensing at the thought of James’s mother, Brook moved to approach him, but as she did he dropped to the floor. Imediantly she was by his side, hand on his shoulder. “dude…” she whisper hoarsely, her eyes locked on his feet. James turned to look at his feet.
More pain was now surging through his feet, followed by a series of grunts. He moved his Hands closer to his feet, parting his toes. He muffled his scream with his sweater, there it was a glistening piece of glass, he reached for it and pulled it out slowly. Little did he know, that was not the only piece of glass there was, his heel was swarmed with smaller and smaller pieces. “it looks like glitter” he joked, trying to forget about the pain, ” but holy shit glitter hurts” he complained as he was trying to get up, he reached out hands toward her” I still don’t know your name”
swatting his hands away Brook made a disgruntled face as she watched him move his feet. “stay” she spoke sternly, standing and grabbing a cloth and rinsing it with cool water. She bent down by his feet. “my name is Brook” she grinned reaching to clean his left foot. Pressing the cloth to a bloodied wound she gently washed away the seeping blood, revealing a large shard of glass embedded in his foot. “shit, this is my fault” she murmured, berating herself mentally.
"Jesus Christ relax you're not doing laundry these are my feet" he laughed. " Brook huh, well it's nice to meet you" he flinched as the cold water dripped from the cloth. His eyes widened as he saw the glass shard poking out of his feet "how long do you think that is" he said as he tilted his head to side "bet it's no competition for what I have" he laughed, forgetting about the continues pain. "how is is your fault" confused, " it's obviously mine. I scared the shit out of you" " I'm surprised you didn't attack me"
