How did you get started as a professional photographer?

The short version is I needed a job and I had a friend who was a photographer at a makeover studio. He showed me how the lights and camera worked and I got a job there.It was pretty intense shooting 11 people per day so I managed to learn pretty quickly! As shitty as the job was I fell in love with photography and stuck with it ever since!
