I’ll be honest, in the two years since we lost LCD Soundsystem as a music making entity, I would have expected countless more bands attempting covers of the James Murphy fronted crew. As those covers are few and far between, when one stands out and attempts to try something fresh, it’s easy to take notice. Here, New York synth pop duo, MS MR, does a sort of languid and dreamy lounge version of “Dance Yrself Clean”. The effect is certainly charming as all hell. Especially the back-end when the track picks up and shifts into a shimmering new wave jam. The recent onslaught of Arcade Fire news and material has reminded the world of how special the work of James Murphy is, and so is a nice cover of one of his fan favorites continues to keep that light shined bright, then please - bring on more. In the meantime, enjoy MS MR’s excellent version.
