THINGS SAID AT WORK AS MARAUDERS QUOTES PT idk
Remus: oh, that was dramatic, even for you. Regulus: no, actually that was pretty on point for me
Regulus getting sleepy and whiny and James carrying him up to bed while Regulus is doing little sleepy "noooo"'s and "put me down"'s while actively dozing off on James' shoulder and James is just like shhh I know but its bed time come on
Sirius gets onto James for babying Reggie but he would do the same🙄
moonwater as soon as you look away
it took them 5 years to confess but as soon as they did their limbs started to tangle together no matter where they are or who's near
Barty: Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't have feelings for Potter
Regulus, looking lovingly at James across the room: I don't have feelings for James.
Barty: Regulus, you're nowhere near my eyes.

“Erm…James? Are you okay in there?” Regulus called from the Potters’ sitting room, trying to hide the hesitancy in his voice.
It had been sweet, really. James had somehow gotten the idea that he was going to cook Regulus a real meal. It was, apparently, something that Effie did for Monty quite a bit, a way she showed her love. And James, being very much his mother’s son, decided he wanted to do the same for Regulus. So he’d begged his parents to go out for the evening and forced Sirius off to Remus’s for the night, thus managing to get the Potter household reserved for just the two of them. It was truly a romantic gesture, something nobody had ever even considered doing for Regulus before, and it secretly made him quite soft inside.
At least at first.
But now James, seventeen and more eager than experienced in the kitchen, had been crashing around in the other room for a fair few minutes, and Regulus was starting to get nervous.
“M’fine!” James yelled back, his voice overly-confident and cheery. “Your job is to just sit and look pretty, love!”
Rolling his eyes and his boyfriend’s comment but unable to stifle a little smile, Regulus continued reading the book on his lap.
And for a few minutes, he was able to relax. After a few more loud clanging noises, James seemed to find his feet, delicious smells wafting into the sitting room and making Regulus’s mouth water.
Until a loud, muffled boom! reached Regulus’s ears, making him sit straight up in alarm.
“Potter?” he called, heart racing. “James? What–?”
And then James Potter’s head poked out of the kitchen, followed by a cloud of smoke. He grimaced sheepishly as he waved at the smoke, trying to dispel the fumes, and gave Regulus a grin. “So…on a scale of one to ten, how romantic is takeout?”

Remus, sighing: can we address the elephant in the room?
James:
Sirius:
Peter:
James: don't know what you mean, moony
Remus: THERE IS LITERALLY AN ELEPHANT BEHIND YOU
Sirius, turning around: huh, how'd that get there
Remus, twitching: HOW DID YOU EVEN GET THAT IN HERE
Peter: you don't wanna know

Dearest Potter,
Kindly fuck right off.
Sincerely,
Draco L. Malfoy
Draco,
Is that any way to write to your future husband?
Love,
Harry
“What the fuck is wrong with him?” Ron shovelled a spoonful of potatoes into his mouth glancing across the hall at Malfoy.
Harry looked over, smirking at the gobsmacked expression gracing Malfoy’s face, a scrap of parchment clutched in his bony hand.
“No idea.” Malfoy looked up and Harry winked.
James: Would you kiss me for 50 Galleons?
Regulus: Why?
James: Just curious
Regulus: For 500 I might
James, sliding exactly 500 Galleons across the table: Well would you look at that?
Regulus: …

The thing about Harry, Ron thought, was that he'd always been terrible at hiding things, utterly ubbish and completely transparent. You always knew exactly what Harry was feeling because it was just there, on his face, available to anyone who looked.
They were trailing about ten feet behind Hermione and Draco, who had somehow locked into conversation approximately forty seconds after arriving and hadn't surfaced since. Something about, empirical and reductive and Ron tuned out, because he loved Hermione more than anything but there were limits on how his his brain functions.
Harry, on the other hand, hadn't tuned out. He was watching them walk ahead, watching Draco specifically, if Ron was being precise, which he was, with an expression that could only be described as catastrophically fond. Ron looked away, looked back and away again.
"Good candyfloss," he offered.
"Mm," Harry said.
"You've not had any."
"What?"
Ron gestured at the stick in Harry's hand, the candyfloss going slightly crispy in the evening air, untouched. Harry looked down at it like he'd forgotten it existed, which he had, Ron realised because he'd bought it, and then Draco had said something, and Harry had just stopped mid-bite and apparently stayed that way for the last five minutes.
"Eat your candyfloss, mate."
"Right." Harry ate some as his eyes drifted forward again.
Ahead, Draco was gesturing, one of those precise gestures he did when he was making a point and Hermione was nodding in that way that meant she was about to disagree very thoroughly. Her voice floated back, “ - but that entirely ignores the - “
Draco said something Ron couldn't catch. Harry made a noise, barely audible and Ron stared at him. It had been, fond wasn't even the right word anymore as it had gone beyond fond. Harry was looking at the back of Draco's head like it was something remarkable, like it was, Ron didn't know, a sunset, or maybe a very good book and something worth stopping for.
The grin was the worst part. Harry didn't even know he was doing it, just this stupid, helpless grin that Ron was fairly certain was not meant to be witnessed by anyone and definitely not by Ron, who now had to carry it around in his brain forever.
"You keep staring at him," Ron said.
"I'm not doing anything of that sort."
"Harry."
"I'm just, they're right there and I'm looking ahead."
Ron ate some of his own candyfloss and said nothing.
"He's been talking about that exhibit for two weeks," Harry said, very casually, like Ron had asked. "The one at the - he mentioned it twice. He pretends he doesn't care about things but he brings them up twice, that's how you know he -" He stopped. "Anyway."
"Anyway," Ron agreed.
The grin had come back, worse than before. Harry was looking at Draco's hands now, still gesturing, with an expression of such unguarded softness that Ron had to look away out of some basic sense of decency because it felt like accidentally walking in on something private. Ahead, Hermione laughed at something and then Malfoy glanced back, just briefly, and automatically his eyes found Harry, and something passed over his face that Ron clocked and filed away and absolutely intended to tell Hermione about later.
Harry lifted a hand, a stupid little wave. Malfoy looked at him for a half-second longer than necessary and turned back around and Harry's grin went, somehow, worse.
"Ron," he said, very quietly.
"Yeah."
"I'm in a lot of trouble."
Ron looked at his best friend, the candyfloss, the grin, the helpless eyes tracking one specific person through a crowded fairground, and thought, I know. I've known for months. We've all known.
"Yeah," he said. "Bit late to warn you now though, isn't it."
Harry laughed, and didn't argue. They walked on. Hermione and Malfoy moved further ahead, still deep in it, and the fair went on around them, lights and noise and the distant shriek of the rides, smell of deep fried food, and Harry wore his heart on his face the way he always had, the way Ron had always been able to read like a book. Ron ate his candyfloss and said nothing else because some things you just let happen.

*Note, inspired by this post by @sable-520 about James proposing to Regulus immediately after buying the ring! This has been stuck in my head lately, thank you for the inspo!*
James couldn’t keep secrets, and Regulus knew this. Well, he could keep some secrets. Some very big, wizarding-war-preventing, life preserving secrets. But those weren’t secrets from Regulus, so did they even really count?
When it came to his boyfriend, James couldn’t keep any secret, even tiny ones. Remus ate his leftovers while he was over? James was ratting him out as soon as Regulus got home. Sirius applied to a muggle mechanic’s garage and told James not to tell anyone? Regulus knew before dinner was served. James had walked in on Pandora and Lily necking at work and was sworn to secrecy? He’s calling Regulus on his way out the building. It was compulsive!
So it really shouldn’t surprise Regulus when James enters their flat that evening with a familiar look on his face; he had a secret he was itching to tell.
“Oh! Hi love, did you- uh, have a good day?” James asked, shifting awkwardly in the doorway like he was surprised to see Regulus home. As if Regulus hadn’t been home to greet James at this time nearly every workday since the two had moved in together just over two years ago.
“I did. What about you?” Regulus asked suspiciously, “learn anything new?” James gave an awkward chuckle and, finally, toed off his boots and shut the door, coming to stand next to where Regulus sat at their dining table and leaning down to kiss his forehead.
“No, not really.” James sounded too casual; he was telling the truth, but the tight expression and his awkward posture still gave him away. Regulus set down his quill and leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs and smirking up at his boyfriend.
“Really? Didn’t run into any of our friends, discover something you shouldn’t have?” He pushed, but James shook his head.
“Nope, didn’t really see anyone we know today.” Regulus squinted. Well then, if it wasn’t any of their friends' secrets, it had to be James’ own.
“What about work, was it interesting? You didn’t get fired or promoted or anything, right?” And James actually scoffed out a laugh.
“No, love, what’s with all the questions?” He sounded nervous. Regulus stood, leaning up on his toes and into his boyfriend’s personal space, staring intensely into his eyes. James looked away. He was definitely hiding something.
“You’ve got a secret.” “What? No I- I don’t even know why- why would you think that?” James stuttered out, extremely unconvincingly. Rolling his eyes Regulus sunk back down to his heels.
“We both know you’re going to tell me eventually, just spit it out James. How bad can it be?” James nodded, puffed out his cheeks in a deep sigh, then nodded again.
“You’re right- you’re right. I just need to- Okay, okay I can do this. Let me just-” He took Regulus hand and, reaching into his coat pocket, dropped down on one knee.
Regulus’ eyes went wide.
“Regulus,” He started.
“Oh my god.” Regulus breathed out.
“I love you so much,” His hand came out of his pocket and in it was a black velvet box.
“Oh my god, oh my god,” Regulus continued chanting under his breath.
“I have loved you for so long. We’ve been through so much, together and apart, and- and I know, I don’t want to go through anything else without you. You make me better, just by being around you, you make me want to be better - for you. These past two years have been… amazing.” Tears welled in both their eyes as James clung to Regulus’ hand like it was a life line. “Sharing this flat, this life, sharing everything with you. It’s all I could ever want.” Shakily, he let go of Regulus’ hand to open the box. Inside was a shining ring. “Will you let me share my life with you forever? Will you marry me?” He barely got the words out before Regulus was throwing himself at him, kissing him messily through their shared tears and smiles. Nodded aggressively he pulled back, cupping James face with his hands.
“Yes!” He choked out, and James slipped the ring onto his finger, and then they were kissing again; deep and sweet and wet from happy tears. Eventually, after a long while of Regulus sucking his soul out of his mouth while sitting James’ lap on the dining room floor, he pulled back and laughed.
“That was your secret, that you were proposing?” James nodded sheepishly. “How long had you planned this?” James gulped, glancing at his watch then back up at Regulus.
“I bought the ring thirty minutes ago.”
