People in the notes saying that carnival originated with pagans and Catholicism and such… Yeah BUT
Those carnivals excluded black people and so, the Caribbean carnival we know today IS a celebration of the abolishment of slavery. Any black person is welcome to participate in the culture of masquerade and sharing their music and food and such. Any race is welcome to attend and enjoy the celebration.
For me it’s this and a celebration of life and freedom, while giving honour to ancestors and respecting traditions. It’s so inclusive, nearly all Caribbean islands have a Kiddie Mas.
