Inspired by this post, but I actually think Moffat is relatively kind to his characters. Yes, he kills them off a lot, but he’s also made something of a habit of bringing them back. And while I’m going to miss the crap out of the Ponds, their story could have ended so much worse.
Whedon, on the other hand; that man is brutal.

Jane scrambled backwards, breathing hard. “Whoa, okay. Whoaaa!” Jane held out her hands and tucked her legs underneath her. “Don’t come any closer! Don’t!” Jane drunk in all his features, his sharp chin, the bright green eyes, the tanned muscles. There was also the obvious lack of clothing. Jane was apalled at this man. “Who are you and what do you even think you are doing?” She spoke quickly, stumbling over her words. “Whoa.” She pressed her hand to her dress, her hair falling out of all around her.
Tarzan only sat there, in his crouched state, for a moment, staring at the babbling creature before him. Now that he saw it in full view, he had to admit; It was the strangest thing he had ever seen. Its yellow shell wasn’t a shell at all, or even skin. It was simply a large covering, like his own that he wore. Its hair was long, and smooth looking, and its skin was rosy and pink. But the time for looking came to an end for the ape man, and wanted to further inspect this odd creature. Suddenly, thunder crashed in the jungle; followed suit by a downpour of rain over the two. Luckily, the branch covered most of the two beings. Unfortunately, a massive leaf caved in to the abundance of rain, and washed over the yellow creature; drenching it completely.
None the less, he slowly crawled towards it, with his emerald eyes filled with curiosity.
Water poured all over Jane as it started raining. “Oh, goodness, it just can’t get any worse, can it?” She groaned, collapsing against the tree. “This. Is. Miserable.” Jane groaned, swinging her legs up towards her chest and keeping one on the ape man, wary of him.
An eyebrow rose from Tarzan’s face, as the creature pressed a leg against his chest; more specifically, its bare foot. He sat back in his crouched state, gently grabbing the yellow creature’s foot, and started playing with its toes. They feel so… soft, and smooth. How can anything have such soft feet?
"No, no, no!" She said quickly, trying to tug her foot away and suppress her laughter. "Whoa. Okay. Whoa." She giggled. "Ape man! Do you not..." Jane trailed off, pushing him away and bringing her foot up to herself. "Listen - okay - just. Bring me back to my father! Okay? No issues!"

Jane was soon surrounded by baboons. Angry baboons. “Oh my!” She exclaimed. She stepped backwards gently on her tip-toes towards the exit.
Green orbs narrowed towards the yellow creature, as it stepped backwards onto the grassy floor. The horde of baboons were not happy in the slightest at the fact that this thing had invaded their territory; and chased their son. No sooner than they had appeared, then they had lunged after the strange creature, shrieking and growling as they jumped from the large tree towards it.
There were baboons. There were lots of baboons, and they were all shrieking towards her looking very angry. Jane shrieked. “Whoa, now!” She screeched, stumbling backwards before turning around running from the mob. She turned a bend and leaped behind a tree, hiding from them and hooking her boot into a knothole. Jane hauled herself up, hiking up her dress as she went before one of them had ripped off her boot. “That is MY BOOT!” She yelled, clinging to the tree.
Tarzan leaped from tree-branch, to tree-branch, hearing the loud cries and shrieks emanating from the strange creature from below. Finally, he came to one final branch, only a few yards from below the yellow being below; seeing that it was clinging onto a large tree, only a few feet away from the ground, as the horde clawed and scratched it. The ape man’s eyebrow came together in concern, as one of the baboons stripped off some type of foot shell from the yellow creature. Odd. He thought.
But he pushed it aside, gripping a vine, and diving down into the open jungle; outstretching an arm to the creature that clung to the tree.
Something had scooped her up. She squealed. “Put me down! Whatever you are, put me -” She registered the very human hand encircling her waist. “Down…” she trailed off. And then she was clinging to him, terrified of falling. “My boot! My hair! What is going on?!” She screeched exasperatedly.
Tarzan struggled to swing to the next vine, as the yellow creature in his arm screeched and squirmed in his grasp. Honestly, he had no idea what was wrong with it. He gathered that it was terrified, but the shrieking was unjustifiable, to him. Grappling onto a final vine, he pushed the growth high up into the canopies; his green orbs, searching for a branch, to set the strange creature upon.
And he did, spotting a large branch, big enough for the two to sit in. Swinging over to it, he gripped the odd being tighter to his body, and grasped the side of the trunk with his bare feet. With one toss, the creature landed on its rear inside the branch, followed suit by the ape man, as it scrambled back to the trunk.

This picture is from an article called “The Rescuing Hug”. The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal.
