A few favourites from a film roll I just developed.

Documentary photography for me is about capturing the truest and most honest essence of an encounter or experience. It’s the genuineness in the cut and mended slippers, the mix and match of a workout shirt and old office trousers, the freshness of just-bathed skin, the scars and stories on one’s face, the sincerity in one’s eyes... to me, that’s what documentary photography is about.

‘TRANSITIONS’ by Janice Iche
This is an ongoing project of a series of images taken during my back & forth travels between Nairobi and Mombasa, the literal transitioning from one place to the other and what I observe in-between. I travel mostly by the SGR and the road so these images are taken from those perspectives. I will also share images taken during the transition between places within these cities.
The idea was born from Andrew Tshabangu’s book ‘Transitions’ where he documents South Africans in transition from apartheid. I was reading it on one train ride from Mombasa and immediately began this project right then. My interpretation of the word ‘transitions’ is more literal compared to Andrew’s where he chose to document it from a behavioural angle. It captured me and I’d advice you to read the book as well.
