Himalaya Trek - Gokyo Ri

The last of our 5,000m+ challenges ended up being completely spectacular. Seeing four 8,000m+ mountains from one view is incredible but add a couple of lakes and it’s almost unbeatable

To get to the Gokyo valley we had to first cross the mighty Chola Pass. Whilst physically challenging, it’s beauty more than compensated and was one of the highlights of the trek

Very early start on a freezing morning in the dark was the price that had to be paid to climb Kala Patthar for a sunrise view of Everest. Too beautiful to put into words. Hopefully the pictures do it some justice

Given it’s popularity we thought EBC might be a bit ‘touristy’ but we pleasantly surprised by the tangible sense of adventure that is present throughout the camp

Still higher the terrain becomes rocky and barren, the yaks get hairier and amazingly the mountains get even higher. See the photos for pictures of a fairly significant avalanche we saw on Nuptse, right in front of Everest

A historic and hectic city that served as our base before our trek. We also spent a bit of tie seeing the sights. Many parts of the city still show the obvious signs of last year’s earthquake damage but much of the beauty remains
