Himalaya Trek - The Way Down part 2
The end of our trek. Back to Lukla then a flight to Kathmandu
Himalaya Trek - The Way Down part 1
Back to familiar territory as we got towards the end of the trek. Final visits to Namche and a last look at Everest were highlights of the last few days
Himalaya Trek - Gokyo Valley part 2
It’s all downhill from here folks, luckily the Gokyo Valley gives you lots to look at on your way down
Himalaya Trek - Gokyo Valley part 1
It’s all downhill from here folks, luckily the Gokyo Valley gives you lots to look at on your way down
Himalaya Trek - Gokyo Ri
The last of our 5,000m+ challenges ended up being completely spectacular. Seeing four 8,000m+ mountains from one view is incredible but add a couple of lakes and it’s almost unbeatable
Himalaya Trek - Chola Pass
To get to the Gokyo valley we had to first cross the mighty Chola Pass. Whilst physically challenging, it’s beauty more than compensated and was one of the highlights of the trek
Himalaya Trek - Kala Patthar part 2
Some more photos of the way down and on our way out of Gorak Shep
Himalaya Trek - Kala Patthar part 1
Very early start on a freezing morning in the dark was the price that had to be paid to climb Kala Patthar for a sunrise view of Everest. Too beautiful to put into words. Hopefully the pictures do it some justice
Himalaya Trek - Everest Base Camp
Given it’s popularity we thought EBC might be a bit ‘touristy’ but we pleasantly surprised by the tangible sense of adventure that is present throughout the camp
Himalaya Trek - Luboche to Gorak Shep part 2
Still higher the terrain becomes rocky and barren, the yaks get hairier and amazingly the mountains get even higher. See the photos for pictures of a fairly significant avalanche we saw on Nuptse, right in front of Everest
Himalaya Trek - Luboche to Gorak Shep part 1
As we climbed higher the trees disappeared but thankfully the beautiful scenery remained. The photos include some of the memorial to climbers who have died climbing in the region
Himalaya Trek - Tingboche to Dingboche part 2
The walk to Dingboche and acclimatization day spent there gave us some of the most dramatic scenery of the trip. Our obsession with photographing prayer flags continues
Himalaya Trek - Tingboche to Dingboche part 1
As we continued up the valley we stopped in Tingboche to see its’ wonderful monastery as well as our first sunrise over Everest
Himalaya Trek - Lukla to Namche Bazaar part 2
These are pictures from Namche itself and the surrounding areas which we visited on our acclimatization day
Himalaya Trek - Lukla to Namche Bazaar part 1
We had beautiful weather as our trek began with a flight to Lukla and entry into the national park
Kathmandu, Nepal - continued
More sights of Kathmandu including Bhaktapur and the construction efforts underway at world’s largest stupa. Oh yeah, and a sacrificed buffalo for good measure
Kathmandu, Nepal
A historic and hectic city that served as our base before our trek. We also spent a bit of tie seeing the sights. Many parts of the city still show the obvious signs of last year’s earthquake damage but much of the beauty remains
