I used to smoke a lot. And I had this ritual, where I’d show up for the audition, have a cigarette, and keep the stub until I heard whether or not I got the job. Now it’s a lot of meditation, music. I’m a bit of a music guy and I like to create my own playlists. Anything that helps get your concentration in order.

so when my agent and manager called they said, ‘you’ve been offered this thing on the walking dead. It’s to play a big bad.’ and at that time they didn’t know the character’s name ‘cause i think it was supposed to be a secret. and I’m like, ‘is it fuckin’ negan?’ and they’re like, ‘i don’t know, we’re gonna have to call you back. hang on a second.’ and i’m like, ’no, it’s fuckin’ negan. and i’m fuckin’ doing it.’
