After like 24 hours of not having anything decent to eat I took advantage of Japan and its food... When my family (no more host family bc we're past that, we're a family now) picked me up from Shinjuku I told them I was hungry so we went to a convenience store and I bought those two orinigiris. One of them is tuna with mayonnaise and the other one I have no idea what it is but it was good and didn't have any meat... In the afternoon I went to Shibuya with Moena (sister) and we went to a restaurant where they only sell omurice BUT THERES LIKE 40+ TYPES OF OMURICE!! 10/10 would recommend if you're in the area it's called Pomme's Later more at night I went to a kaiten sushi with my mom and some family friends that I met last year. LONG STORY SHORT I ATE A LOT!!!

FINALLY ARRIVED IN JAPAN! After 3 hours from Tijuana to Mexico City, and then another 5 hours of waiting for my flight to Narita, and then 13 hours from Mexico City to Narita IM FINALLY HOME!! (As in my home in Japan) The flight was not heavenly, it was so cold and omg Aeromexico needs to improve in the food that they give!! Last year I flew to Japan by ANA and everything(seating space, food, service) was way better than Aeromexico's....(te quiero mucho tío Miguel...) Anyway! I'll keep updating this blog while I'm in Japan for the next week! Also!!!! The bus that took me from Narita to Shinjuku gave me this ticket with the number 664 which is also the area code of Tijuana... ONCE A 664 ALWAYS A 664!!

i’ve been getting so many questions from japan that it’s making me miss it more than i should...

What did you do cell phone wise in Japan?

i didnt use one hahah, i was only gonna be there for 6 weeks and it wasnt necessary.

One of my friends went to their cellphone companies and asked to unblock their cellphone so they could use it in Japan but im not sure how much that was. Another one bought one of those phones that you can throw away to use it in Japan. For many of my friends, their families gave them their cellphone (so if both the mom and dad had a phone, the dad would give it to my friend). If you dont want to pay any fees to use a phone for 6 weeks then don’t, i didnt do it and i was just fine. Just organize your day with your family so they know at around what time youll be home or around what area youll be in.

Do you have LINE? If you do then great! If you dont then you should probably download it (its free), all japanese people (or like 85%) use it to call/message and it works with wifi, so if something happens you can message your host family from there.

Also wifi spots are less common in Japan, sometimes there’s wifi spots for foreigners but they ask you a bunch of questions (like passport #) and it’s not worth it at that point. Many train stations have wifi but not all of them so dont rely 100% on wifi, as I said plan your day ahead of time so your family will know where you are.

There’s this app that is called “Japan Connected-free Wi-fi” that lets you connect more easily to wifi spots if there’s one, also sometimes they charge you so be careful!

Oh yeah, how long are the average shorts in Japan? And should I pack for like 2 weeks? I'm not sure how much to bring...

Youre gonna be there for 6 weeks right? Maybe pack for 3 weeks?

I’m not sure how much time youre gonna go to school for (which would mean wearing your uniform everyday) since every school has different schedule (you might even have to go to school on a saturday LMAO).

Also japanese people wash their clothes every day, I didnt know that so i packed waaaay to much.

Take into account the fact that you might want to buy a lot of clothes over there in japan, so yeah maybe pack for 2~3 weeks and leave space on your luggage for gifts and personal things you want to bring.

Hi! I'm a different anon than has been messaging you but I'm going to Japan this summer too! I was wondering about school uniforms. Did you have to wear one? If so did you have to pay for it yourself? Same question about school books, did you have to buy those or anything? Thanks so much!

In MOST schools if not ALL schools in Japan you have to wear a uniform, so my guess is wherever you go, yes you will wear a school uniform.

The uniform during summer that I had to wear was very simple, it was just a black/navy skirt and a white polo, black/navy/white socks and penny loafers. This uniform was very simple, so if you go to a school where the uniform is as simple as this one then you might have to get it before leaving for Japan, unless your host family tells you that they have uniforms for you then you should probably bring something.

If your school has a special school uniform that you can only get at the school then the school will lend you one for the time that you will be there, you dont get to keep it but at least youll be like everyone else. A couple of my friends decided they wanted to keep the uniform so they paid the school what the uniform costs (VERY EXPENSIVE!!!) and got to keep it forever.

Your host family might pay for your uniform if theyre really nice, but since it is kinda expensive then dont expect them to have your back for that...

You will not be expected to buy any of the class books, you might attend only the english classes and sit in the library for the rest of the day,or you might take all your classes with your classmates, but you’re not expected to even take notes. What most of us did if we were in a history class (for example) and understood nothing, we just took out something to study japanese with and started doing that. Your classmates will all be very interested in what youre doing so might as well do something useful in the time being.

I recommend you to bring one notebook, pencilbag and a folder to school, at least to show that you’re ready for anything.

Ok so clothes....

Japan during the summer is VERY VERY hot and humid, it might reach 30~32 degrees Celsius and ITS SO HUMID! BUT its rainy season so you will get a lot of rain, there’s days that school was cancelled because it rained so much!

 So i recommend you to bring many pairs of shorts, skirts, casual dresses, t-shirts, blouses. Take into account that youre most likely gonna sweat a lot so maybe bring baggy clothes so the sweat stains wont show hahaha

Bring one formal outfit JUST IN CASE, i never had to wear something formal but maybe you will go somewhere more fancy with your family, it’s good to have something formal in your wardrobe.

They will teach you most of this at the orientation in SF but in Japan they dont really wear stuff that shows the shoulders (strapless anything, dresses, tank tops, etc...) and if they do wear something like that, they cover it with a light cardigan or a jacket.

Also for the length of your shorts/skirts/dresses... the normal american length of stuff is actually very short in Japanese standards... My family was always really surprised when they saw how short my shorts and skirts were, but here in the US the length was pretty normal.My point is that they will not judge you or anything like that because everyone will see that youre a foreigner, thats kind a justification for everything but please dont be an idiot and justify it with the fact that youre a foreigner.

The card I had was a visa debit card, I had that one just because Wells Fargo recommended me to have a debit card bc they’re accepted in mostly all places. Ok but one thing!!! I went to Disney Sea in Tokyo and they didn’t accept my card, I thought that was really weird, but everywhere else (small shops, restaurants, shopping mall, etc….) it was all good.Also ATMs are really simple and they give you the option to have the language in English, so you can withdraw money from your account with no problems. One thing about ATMs is that you’ll most likely find them in posts offices or convenience stores, NOT ALL stores but most of hem :-)I didn’t bring my laptop because it’s seriously so distracting (for me specially) and when you’re at home it’s better to spend time with your family in any way possible, you’re only gonna be there for 6 weeks so even sitting in silence watching TV is better than you being in your computer. Also if you’re in your computer they will most likely not want to bother you which equals to not talking to you, and you don’t want that.I did bring my camera though! My pro camera, my Polaroid camera and my phone. Many many pictures ( ^ω^ )IM SO SORRY MY REPLIES ARE ALWAYS SO LONG!!! OTL

CONGRATS ON GETTING ACCEPTED TO GO!! You seriously will not regret, those 6 weeks will be the best 6 weeks of your life. Have they told you yet where you’re going?Any tips? Well the fact that you chose Japan must mean that you are already open minded to other cultures and their traditions, so I don’t think accepting Japanese culture will be a problem.- BRING AN UMBRELLA! Or you can buy one in Japan since they’re all really cute, but you’ll 100% need one.- ITLL BE HOT/HUMID!! So pack light clothes!! (maybe one pair of jeans, I only wore them once and kinda regretted it OTL)- Japan is really not that expensive, I brought $500 in cash and $200 in my card and it was just enough, so maybe around that amount will be fine. It also depends where they place you. I stayed in Tokyo and I spend more than my other friends who where placed in the country side.- TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES BUT don’t always live behind your camera, live the moment.- STRANGERS ARE NOT A DANGER! Everyone in Japan is really nice (specially to foreigners) and they’ll help you if you need it.- Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get lost specially in train stations, the people that work there are there to help you! If you go back to my early posts you’ll find my story of how I got lost while going to school (ended up being a little late) and how I should have asked for help way earlier than I did.I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of things, did you have something more specific in mind that you wanted help with?I’ll be glad to answer any of your questions!

I'm watching the new Death Note drama (started watching it in Japan and continuing it here) and they used Atsugiri Jason as a character that they want to kill LMAO
