A material test and art for a fanfic involving the Treasures of Ruin, called As Above, So Below,. I'm sort of piloting a cool idea I had for my fanfic, which is incorporating my art. Since that's where my muse wants to go.
I figured that I'd combo it with figure drawing and a test of my Frixion pens (fineliners and wedge tips) on Rocketbook's reusable notebooks.
I love using these pens overall - bright colors and erasable ink is honestly great on normal paper. I'm now using them exclusively in my planner because it's bright but I can change things up if needed. I also am using my rocketbooks (bought on sale, so half off, haha!) and they have their challenges but it appeals to my recycling heart to not have to buy a new notebook or "waste paper." I was sort of hoping to use my graphing one for art practice or very colorful pen art.
I was disappointed. The scanning app did not like the markers, and the phone camera could only do so much. The colors got washed out. The markers also smudged on the rocketbook paper even when I used a special glove. Putting marker on top of marker didn't work out well - basically like a whiteboard.
The rest is due to my own artistic inexperience, but this was ultimately a material test and a way to express my OC/an OC that is only sort of half mine.
I arranged the images in photoshop to create depth and drama and cleaned it up, but I didn't put too much effort into it. I used Quickposes for pose references.
In sum, Frixion on Rocketbook is not my preferred medium, but it will be fun for practice and take some of the pressure out of using my limited sketchbook space.
Sigh, my black Frixion pen ran out. Pretty quickly too! It was a replacement for the previous one. But this time I bought a refillable so I'll have to buy refills. No idea where but hopefully I'll come across some, or I'll have to seek out a stationary or art store. I'll probably buy another of those animal pens to replace the blue one. (Unless Frixion sells those bigger ones in blue as well.) Those also have refills you can change, and luckily these are pretty common in book and gift stores.
... Does this count as project pan? At the very least these are justifiable purchases for me, I use these all the time, for my BuJos, notes, postcards and more.
Journaling is my way to let my brain unwind. It's truly therapeutic to me in a way I hadn't realized or appreciated. This post is an example of how I journal.
Hi! I saw one of your posts with your planning setup. I’ve been wanting to try frixion for journaling, but I worry that it might fade overtime. I was wondering about your experience with it.
-🪿
It’s definitely not recommended as an archival ink! I’ve used the black Frixion pens for 4 years now (can’t speak for other colours) and haven’t had any fading yet. It is important to note though that I store all my books away from sunlight and live in a pretty mild temperature (at worst, a bit humid) country. I’ve also noticed things like cinema tickets / thermal printed paper has faded a bit but my ink stays strong 🫡
I’m sentimental about my books but I don’t know how I feel about my ink on paper lasting super long (or outlasting me) 😵💫 so it’s not been something that’s bothered me as a possibility.
TL;DR - Ive never had an issue and I think it would probably take a good amount of heat /uv damage to make the ink vanish💭
I could possibly see if I have an original picture of the ink when it first was written vs now if you’re interested.
TIL you can use a hairdryer to erase the lines from those friction pens? Works underneath ink/paint, no mess! Every day is a school day 🦾😸
FriXion
Pilot FriXion was the best brand to create pens and highlighters. Whoever invented these things were total GENIUSES. The best part isn’t that it has pens and highlighters in multiple colors. They are also ERASABLE! That’s right.. You heard me right. They all have erasers at the end of them. Now that I know I can write in style and erase my mistakes. I’m never using mechanical pencils…
