i hate seeing people now making fun of those who care about privacy online. i've seen people saying things like "well they already have your data. what are companies going to do with it" and it's like, that's not the point. it's that companies /shouldn't/ be able to have my data and sell it. am i aware they probably already have my data? yes, absolutely. but i'm still going to try and keep them from monetizing it any further, why are we defending companies selling data they shouldn't have to begin with though?
adding this to the post because, 100%, just there's a fire doesn't mean you should pour gasoline on it
I have like ten different ad and/or tracking blockers on my PC and phone... just out of pure spite
Can link it? I wish to hop aboard that train.
@drunkenbartend
Firefox with build in tracker protection
Ublock Origin adblocker for Firefox
Adguard adblocker for firefox, for everything that gets past Ublock
Mullvad VPN, one of the most reliable, cheapest and safest VPNs at the moment
DuckDuckGo android app that blocks trackers for every app on your phone
DuckDuckGo for firefox for blocking trackers and the likes
SponsorBlock for firefox, skips the sponsor segments of youtube videos
Adaway Adblocker for android (works much better with root access but doesn't require it)
Is there any benefit to using multiple ad blockers at once? I honestly don't know, but I haven't seen a single ad on the internet in ages and I get to use this image:
i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
yup basically this
I want to tell a story to the artists and would-be artists out there.
When I was 19, I made a large oil painting of the nerd I would eventually marry. I poured all my attention and care into this painting. It's the only art I have from back then that still holds up as a work I'm proud of today.
I entered it into a judged show at the local art center. It got an honorable mention. I went to see the show with my beloved model. One of the judges came up to talk to me, and highlighted that all the judges really liked the painting. It would have placed, except, you see, the feet were incorrect. They were too wide and short, and if I just studied a bit more anatomy-
I called over my future wife, and asked her to take off her shoe. Being already very used to humoring me, she did. The judge looked at her very short, very wide little foot. Exactly as I'd lovingly rendered it. I would never edit her appearance in any way.
The judge looked me in the eye, and to his credit, he really looked like he meant it when he said "Oh I'm so sorry."
Anyways the moral of the story is that all of those anatomy books that teach you proportions are either showing you averages, or a very specific idea of an idealized body. Actual bodies are much more varied than that.
So don't forget to draw from observation, and remember that humans aren't mass produced mannequins. Delight in our variation. Because it's supposed to be there.
Holy crap I think I finally finished sculpting this guy (but I keep saying that and then working on it more 😁). My goal is stylization and simplification to capture the appeal of the concept, while still including detail like anatomy and evidence of clothing construction methods to make it feel grounded in reality. This is a high-poly ZBrush sculpt with placeholder colors/materials. I'm going to do a full game-resolution textured version, but I want to show what I've done so far! The character is Eadmund Armstrong, designed by the famous concept artist Nesskain. He has tons of illustrations and a comic of this guy on his portfolio.
X-Men fan art keeps my creative juices flowing. I will never tire of drawing them! I love the new Phoenix costume! I added her hip sash even though she doesn't have it in the new one because to me it feels too iconic to lose. Micron pens, Winsor Newton markers, Blick skin tone markers, Gelly Roll and Pentel whiteout pens.
I realized I posted a ton of WIPs, and posted the base character in A-pose, but never posted this guy here after I rigged and posed and lit him with all the props. I worked on this 3D character on & off through 2023/4. For CGMA mentorship with Weston Reid, based on concept art by Da Duizhang. More renders & process shots in folio, link in bio!
This is a very in-progress screenshot of a 3D sculpt. I'm 3D modeling the character Armstrong designed by the amazing Nesskain. I sculpted him a few years ago but felt kinda bleh about it so I'm redoing it. I did the torso in a mentorship with Josh Singh last year and now I'm moving forward with the rest of the body and the clothes. Long way to get but I'm getting there!
Wow I haven't posted here in a long time! Gonna try to keep this more active! Here's my (late) portfolioday post! I'm a 3D game artist and I like making colorful stylized stuff! Currently looking for work as mid-level 3D Character Artist or lead-level 3D Art Generalist!
Finished this cute lil angry rock golem! This is the helper guy for a main character, gonna put them all together next. ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag. 3500 tris, 2K textures. Concept by Da Duizhang.
Made a few edits to the sculpt and baked maps for that rock golem I posted. 3500 tris. Again the concept is not mine, it's by Da Duizhang.
Still cranking away at this personal project. Sculpt of this lil rock golem guy who's sort of the familiar to the main character I already made. Concept by Da Duizhang.
Here are some finished props for the Shanks character from my last post, along with some WIP shots! Still plugging away at this character, I've got one more major prop plus a few tiny background elements, then posing and final renders! Concept by Da Duizhang.
Finished new character!
This is a stylized PBR character I made for CGMA's Advanced Stylized Character Art Mentorship, taught by Weston Reid. I spent some time afte
Finally finished this guy! This was a lot of work and I learned a ton. I do plan to rig and pose him but for now I want to show the rendered textured model! (I posted this link before but have since updated the images).
Just a bit of an update on this guy. Almost done with textures, then on to posing! For a CGMA class taught by Weston Reid, concept art by Da Duizhang. After the class I made a few model updates and now I'm detailing out the textures.
Still chipping away to finish this character I did a few months ago. For a CGMA class taught by Weston Reid, concept art by Da Duizhang. After the class I made a few model updates and now I'm detailing out the textures. Getting close!
Got this muscleman bust to at least a presentable stage. This is the character Eadmund Armstrong, designed by Nesskain. I re-did the full body I posted earlier, as a mentorship from Josh Singh via Mentor Coalition. I learned a ton from him! Sculpted in ZBrush, retopo with ZRemesh, posing with Transpose Master. Then baking, materials, and lighting in Marmoset Toolbag. I do plan to eventually sculpt the rest of the character and do proper retopo and textures but wanted to show what I have so far!
