You know I love me some fluffy Bucky! You and Buck are just trying to have a nice day out and some guys start harassing you

Warnings: harassment, swearing, Bucky is a lil grumpy what else is new
Today’s weather had been a pleasant surprise. All week, the weathermen had been predicting rain, rain, rain. You had prepared yourself for a dreary weekend in with Bucky, but all of that was been forgotten when you woke up to sunshine pouring through the windows. Your excited gasp had woken Bucky, who threw his flesh arm over his eyes with a groan.
“It’s too early for you to be this excited,” he grumbled, his voice raspy with sleep. You were already clambering out of bed before he had finished his sentence.
“It’s not raining! We can go to the farmer’s market today!” you cheered. You took his hand and shook it as you did a little excited dance. If Bucky’s eye hadn’t been squeezed shut, he would have thought you were adorable
“But we don’t have to go now, do we?” Bucky protested. “It’ll still be there this afternoon.”
“Yes, we do and not it won’t, it closes at 11.” This pulled a dramatic groan from Bucky, which you ignored. “Now, c’mon sleepyhead. We gotta go.” You tossed his metal arm, which he had long stopped wearing to sleep, on the bed beside him. He opened his eyes when he felt the weight of it as you trotted off to the bathroom.
“Bucky come one!” you called several minutes later when you still hadn’t heard him get up.
“Okay, okay, I’m moving.” You waited to finish getting ready until you heard the whirring of his reattached arm.
An hour later, you walked hand-in-hand down the streets of New York City, towards the market. Bucky was still teasing you about making him get out of bed early when you passed a little coffee shop. Bucky came to a halt in front of it and, with an exaggerated yawn, told you he was going to get some caffeine in him.
“Do you want something, doll?” he asked and you shook your head.
“No, I’m okay. I’ll wait out here, since the weather is so nice, and it looks a little crowded in there.”
Bucky was always hesitant about leaving you alone in public spaces, but the windows of the café were glass and he’d be able to keep an eye on you the whole time, so he agreed. He kissed your temple before swinging the door of the shop open and stepping inside.
You looked up at the sky as you waited, absentmindedly finding shapes in the clouds, and enjoyed the cool breezy on your face. The sundress you’d picked out this morning billowed around you and you felt a bit like Marilyn Monroe. You wondered if Bucky would understand that reference if you told it to him.
You were pulled out of your thoughts by two male voices hollering at you from across the street. You glanced around to see if there was anyone else they could be talking to, but you were the only one on the sidewalk, save for a few businessmen sitting at a table a few storefronts away. One of them wolf whistled while the other shouted at you. You couldn’t quite make out what he was saying, and you were glad for it…until they started making their way towards you. Your heartrate sped up and you glanced into the café, hoping Bucky was walking back out to you. You cursed under your breath when you saw him ordering at the counter. Before you were able to reach for the door, a hand gripped your wrist.
“You couldn’t hear us from all the way over there, could you baby?” the man holding your arm said. His partner’s eyes were raking over you like he was undressing you. The grip on your wrist was painful and you tried your best to free yourself.
“Let me go, please,” you reply, trying your best to remain polite. The last thing you needed was for this interaction to turn violent. The man’s hold on to you only tightened.
“We just want to chat for a bit, sweetheart, what’s so wrong with that?” You could feel him trying to guide you back across the street and you were starting to panic.
“Please-.”
“Is there a problem here?” asked a familiar voice, and you relaxed. Bucky. Your boyfriend’s arm slid easily around your shoulders. His metal one held his coffee and he looked ready to toss its contents on your harassers.
“Nothing that concerns you,” the man holding you replied with a glare in Bucky’s direction. His partner seemed to be trying to get his attention, smacking his arm and whispering something under his breath.
“Oh, I think it does concern me,” Bucky snarled.
“I’m sure it- what?” The man let go of your wrist to turn to his companion who hissed “Winter Soldier” through his teeth. The more confrontational of the two looked at Bucky and back at his friend and to Bucky again, his eyes now wide with fear. If you weren’t so shaken, you would have found it funny.
“I- I’m sorry Mr. Winter Soldier sir, my- my mistake,” the man stuttered. Bucky looked vaguely amused as he sputtered apologies.
“I suggest you move along. I’d hate for my coffee to get cold while I kick your ass for putting your dirty hands on my girl.” He flashed the metal arm in their direction. The men comically tripped over their own feet trying to get away and Bucky turned to take care of you.
“Are you alright, doll? Did they hurt you?” Bucky’s hand found the back of your head, thumb stroking your head. You shake your head, not trusting your own voice. Everything had happened so quickly you barely had time to process in the moment. All the emotions that had been rushing through you hit all at once. Your hands started shaking and clung to Bucky’s waist, your breathing uneven.
“I know, doll, I know,” Bucky coos, kissing your temple. “Don’t be scared. I’m right here. You’re safe now.” You could feel a rumbling in his chest as he spoke, and it grounded you. Eventually, your breathing returned to normal, and you were able lift your head from Bucky’s shoulder. He wiped away a stray tear with the pad of his thumb and gave you a small smile.
“Can we go home?” you asked quietly. Bucky’s smile widened.
“Oh no!” he chuckled. “You did not drag me out of bed with the damn sun for us to not go to the market, okay? We’re going and you’re going to love it. I know you will.” He was right, of course, but you were still feeling apprehensive. You just wanted to go curl up in a ball for the rest of the day.
“Bucky, I don’t-.”
“Don’t let them ruin our day, baby,” Bucky insists. “If you really want to go home, I’ll take you home and we’ll stay curled up to your heart’s content, but you were so excited this morning. Please, doll? I just want to see that pretty smile.” His sweet words break through your hesitance and the corners of your lips begin to turn upwards. Bucky gives your side a playful tickle until he deems your smile wide enough.
“There’s my girl,” he says, beaming back at you. Bucky takes a swig of his coffee before taking your hand and setting off down the sidewalk. “Now c’mon let’s go to this stupid market.” You laugh at his feigned reluctance and eagerly follow him.
Bucky was right to convince you to go on with the day. You picked out all the fresh fruits and veggies you could ever want. Bucky followed behind you, munching on a plum, as you bounced between the booths. He humored you by helping you select a handmade soap, letting you hold samples up to his nose and giving his opinions. The weather stayed beautiful until the moment Bucky shut the door to your apartment upon your return home.
The rain hammering on the windows created a cozy atmosphere which motivated you both to get back into your pajamas and settle in for a movie marathon; Bucky still had some catching up to do and you were more than happy to help. By the time you fell asleep, safely wrapped in Bucky’s arms, the incident in front of the coffee shop had been long forgotten.
