It had slipped out like nothing.
âWhy the fuck did I say that?â
Jason froze on top of you. His eyes slowly inching back up to your face.
âWhy the FUCK did I say that?!â
You could feel your skin crawling as you stared straight up at the ceiling to avoid his gaze.
âWhat did you say?â He asked quietly as he slowly sat up on his knees.
âItâs either man up or get the fuck out of here.â You felt like throwing up. Not only were you already naked under this man, you were vulnerable enough to let your feelings slip.
ââŠ.I should go-â you practically threw yourself out of his bed onto the floor to collect your clothes.
You quietly shove on your shirt to at least have the decency of being somewhat covered up as you search for your pants. âI forgot I have something to do.â
âI donât judge whatever you do at night?â He squinted at you not trying to argue with that. âJust repeat what you said.â
âIâm good.â You replied instantly as you dove to the ground one you spotted your plaid pajama pants. âIâllâŠ..see you when I see you!â You snatched your phone and keys off the dresser and booked it for the door. âHEY! STOP!â
That was a three days agoâŠ..and you may have left your shoes behind at his apartment.
What were you supposed to do? How were you going to play it off? Youâve been ignoring his texts and calls already. What could you even say?
âI thinkâŠ.youâre overreacting.â Dick sat across from you in a booth, scarfing down chili cheese fries. âHow?! I literally told him I love him!â You held the sides of your face and leaned back, in true agony.
âWell, you do, obviously- damn these are good- I just think you should talk about your feelings with him.â Dick suggests with his mouth full.
âHe is never going to talk to me again.â You groaned out covering your face with the menu.
âYouâre not talking to him now so whatâs the difference?â Dick pointed out, already halfway finished with his food.
âExactly. What do you have to lose?â
Were you being dramatic? Debatable.
Were you now traveling to Jasonâs apartment by foot.
âStupid DickâŠ.and his stupid inputâŠ.stupid cold windâŠ..stupid JasonâŠâ you complained as you walked. Cursing the world because of your feelings.
You stopped right infront of his door step. âPlease donât be home. Please donât be home.â You begged the universe no one would answer the door as you walked up the steps. You knocked three times. The door opens and a black haired woman appears behind the door.
ââŠâŠ.â You felt as if you were imagining things. Why have you never seen this woman before? Is thisâŠ..Jasonâs girlfriend?
ââŠâŠcan I help youâŠ?â
You both stared at each other.
ââŠ..wrong house.â You turned on your heel and jump off the stairs, running down the sidewalk.
âWHO THE FUCK IS THAT?!â You felt even worse than the initial âI love youâ slip up. 10,000 times worse.
âWhat the fuck?!â You made a good distance away, catching your breath as you came to a halt infront of a convince store. A million terrible thoughts crossed your mind. Was that his actual girlfriend and youâve been a side piece this whole time? How long had he been cheating? For fucks sake you only ever went to his house in the dead of night. Of course, thatâs his fucking girlfriend. You held your head in your hands and leaned back ready to scream your lungs out. âFuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck.â
Waves of emotion took over your body as you forced yourself to continue walking all the way home. âWhat is wrong with me?! How could I let this happen?! Does she know!? Of course she doesnât know! I need to tell her!â You fought with yourself earning looks from strangers, though it was Gotham so not too many.
You slammed your door open. âI canât do this.â Your phone magically appeared in your hands as you begin blocking Jason on everything imaginable. Bile wormed its way up into the back of your throat. âSiri call Dick.â You ask your phone as you place it on the bed as you pace around.
âHe didnât know did he? He would have told me? No! Thatâs his brother! Of course he wouldnât!â
Your heart was pounding against your chest. âIâm an idiot! How could I let this happen!?â You drop onto the bed, trying to catch your breath. âI canât believe this. How could he?â
No. You two werenât dating, a mutual situationship that had progressed over the last few months. He had no obligation to you whatsoever. Doesnât change the fact your stomach is sinking lower and lower the more the scene of that woman answering the door plays in your head. âFuck. Iâm so stupid.â You wish your feelings could resolved right then and there.
âSiriâŠ.callâŠ.Roy.â
If there was one person you could go to. It was going to be Jasonâs best friend.
âHello? Iâm trying to sleep.â He answered on the second ring, sounding more bored than tired.
âROY PLEASE ITS AN EMERGENCY!â
âIf theres no hostage, no itâs not. Goodnight.â
âPlease! Does Jason have a secret girlfriend?â
âGirlfriend? The man barely has game as it is.â You could hear him slightly chuckle in the phone.
âIâm being serious.â
âSo am I. If he had a girlfriend I would be the first one to knowâŠ.alsoâŠ.arenât you twoâŠ.ya knowâŠ.fucking?â
ââŠ..Iâve gotta go. Nice talk. See you around!â
You click the red phone icon and end the call before he could get any further details of your sex life. A nosy Roy was hard to get rid of.
âSo no secret girlfriend. MaybeâŠa friend?â You try to calm the aching feeling in your gut by justifying everything. âHe can have friends! Maybe Iâm overthinking.â
You think about it a bit more, âJason can barely talk normal to me. How the fuck is he going to have a woman friend?â
You laid back on your bed, trying to make your brain stop overthinking. âIâm an idiot.â You groaned.
A ringing comes from beside you. The screen showing a picture of you and Dick with Snapchat filters on. âOh god.â Play it off. Be cool.
âHello?â You answered a bit too quickly.
âHey! Whatâs up! You called? Are you okay? Did you talk to my dumb brother?â
âHahaâŠ.â You couldnât bring yourself to answer.
âHe wasnât home.â You lied.
âOh? Really? I have his location, donât tell him, it says heâs been home since 2 am last night.â
âAre you okay? What happened?â
âI gotta go! Iâll talk to you about it later okay?!â
âHey! Whatâs wrong? Donât you dare hang up on-â
You ended the call before he could finish. Way to play it cool. âShitshitshit.â
You roll over onto your side, âI canât do this today.â
You stayed in bed for the next two hours. Ignoring all texts, most being from both Dick and Royâs nosy asses. One unknown numbers text did stand out.
You ignored it of course. Itâs not like heâll break inâŠ.Well he might.
That was your cue to leave your house before he found you. âDinner sounds good right about now.â You hurried to put on your shoes and grab your bag, running out your apartment building.
You turned off your location as soon as your foot hit the sidewalk. âWhy do I have such bad luck? You tell a guy you love him and now youâre the problem.â You complain to yourself heading down the street. âThose chili cheese fries Dick was eating did look good.â You hummed to yourself.
The evening was settling down in the skyline. The pink sunset slowly turning blue as you progressed to the diner.
The doors open with a bell ringing. âTable for one please.â You asked the waitress. She guided you to the counter where you stopped dead in your tracks
ââŠ.â There he was, in all his glory. Jason sat eating by himself, almost the exact imagine of his brother scarfing down chili cheese fries.
His body tensed up as he turned your way. âHEY! YOU!â He stood up quickly and grabbed your arm before you could make a run for it. âWhat is wrong with you?! Why did you block me? You know you canât hide from me. Sit down.â He pulls you to the seat next to him. You try to resist warning a sickening look from him. âNow.â
Like a puppy you obeyed. âJason.â
âOrder something.â He pushes a menu towards you as the waitress who witnessed the whole scene quietly asks what drink you want. You answer and she hurries back to the kitchen to avoid the awkward scene further.
âOrder something first. Then weâll talk.â He sipped on his drink before clearing his throat. âYou seriously know how to push my buttons.â He let out a harsh sigh, âI feel insane.â He shook his head then took another sip.
ââŠ.I went to your placeâŠâ you finally say. He looked over at you. âWhen?â
âEarlier todayâŠ.a lady answered the door..â
ââŠ.lady?âŠ.â He thought for a second, âoh! My sister!â
ââŠâŠâ your brain felt fried. ââŠsister?â
ââŠ.not secret girlfriendâŠ.?â
You paused to look him in the eye. ââŠâŠI uhâŠâ
âYou thought she was my girlfriend? What kind of man do you think I am?â
Oh, he was pissed. âIs that why you blocked me? You see one woman at my house and you spiral thinking I have some secret girlfriend Iâve been hiding from you? Are you serious?â
âHow the fuck was I supposed to know you have a sister?! You keep me at arms fucking length already.â You strike back, completely caught off guard.
âYeah, look how you are! You blocked me over a misunderstanding!â
âHow was I supposed to know you have a sister?! You nor Dick ever talk about your personal lives!â
âYeah how can I trust someone like you if this is how you act!â
âSomeone like me? What do you mean by that, Jason?â
He paused, catching himself. ââŠ.nothing. I donât mean anything by that. Just order something. We can talk about this somewhere else.â
âNo. Letâs talk about it now!â
âFine! You wanna talk about pushing people away? Like you pushed me away after you told me you loved me?â
âBecause I know you Jason! You donât love me! I said it while feeling overwhelmed but I know you could never reciprocate the feeling I have for you. Iâm replaceable in your life! I can tell you 1000 times how I love you and care about you. It doesnât change the fact that you donât feel the same and Iâm not going to force it.â You could feel your chest tighten as you speak.
âWhy are you assuming my feelings? How do you know I donât love you?â
âBecause you donât! This is the first time in months Iâve seen you in anything other than the dead of night! There is no relationship between us. We donât even talk as friends. You call at 2 am and Iâm there and then I leave! Thatâs all this is!â
âThatâs not all it is! Fuck! Stop talking like you know everything. If thatâs all it is, why were you upset seeing someone at my apartment?â
âBecause I donât want to think about what you do when Iâm not there! I canât stomach the fact there might be someone else! Or that you could find someone else!â You felt your eyes begin to burn as tears welled up. He notices and grabs your shoulders to face him.
âHow do you think I feel? Every second youâre away from me I feel fucking empty. I show up to your place or text you the second I get the chance to. I wish we could be together every second of everyday. I fucking canât stand the thought of anyone even looking at you while Iâm not around. Fuck man.â Jason puts a hand on your cheek. âStop overthinking. I only need you. Thereâs no one else. There will never be anyone else. I love you and you only.â
He watched your face light up as the words leave his mouth.
âYouâre just saying that.â You frown wiping a few stray tears away as the waitress puts your drink in front of you and strays out of the way.
âI mean itâŠ..with all my soul.â
You didnât respond to that. âLetâs leave.â
âEat something first, please.â He turned you to the menu pushed your head down to look. âThe chili cheese fries are immaculate.â
You both finished up in the diner, relatively quiet. Jason left a big tip to the waitress who had to suffer through your relationship problems.
âI think, we should go on an actual date.â Jason pipes up.
âLetâs take things slow. I realize, we both need to learn more about each other. Iâm not good at these sort of thingsâŠbut Iâm willing to try if you let me.â
ââŠ.yeahâŠIâd like that.â
He looks down at you and slowly moves his hand into yours. You intertwined your fingers in his and move closer. âYouâre already clingy.â You laugh softly.
