Outdoor Education and Art (& Inktober)
Inktober is an artist’s challenge to draw a given daily prompt and post on social media. It is an exercise to practice drawing daily and a challenge to stimulate the imagination. As an outdoor educator, I noticed that nearly all of the Inktober prompts can be illustrated using nature based learning. This is exciting for me, because I love the subject! I am working from reference photos that I have taken (with exception) and keeping it simple using a portable journal. I will post once a week. Here are the first seven prompts! I hope you enjoy!
1. Backpack
I used a reference photo of a student and really liked how it turned out.
2. Discover
I got a headstart and penciled the first one, but didn’t like it, so I did a second one. That is a magnifying lens, not a spoon.
3. Boots
Each day during rest, our preschoolers get/need/want a rest after our busy morning! Here is a tray with some of our boots. Boots are hard to draw!
4. Exotic
The kids love running from prehistoric monsters!
5. Binoculars
Even though we have a wonderful Bird Watch Station with binoculars and a monocular, I didn’t have any good references, so I had to use a random interwebs image for reference.
6. Trek
By definition, it is a “long arduous journey, especially one made on foot”. Just another day at our preschool!
7. Passport
Nature education is a passport to adventure and learning!
Thanks for hanging out with me! I'll see you soon!
