Jason Elway || Twenty Four || Founder of Safe Haven

A week had passed since Jolie first appeared at the doors of Safe Haven; a place her brother had sent her too when he knew she had to leave Dublin, Ohio. Since arriving, Jolie had barely left the four walls that was her room. She preferred her own company rather than someone else’s, something which she had fallen into as her old group of friends back in Ohio didn’t really invite her places. Today Jolie had decided to explore the rest of the location, including the outdoors, her excuse being looking for inspiration for a new piece of art she was about to start working on. Hearing a somewhat familiar voice, Jolie jumped a little as she wasn’t expecting to see anyone so soon. “Hi.. If I’m honest, I’ve been looking for excuses to stay in my room since I’ve gotten here. I’m not that much of a social person.” She explained, speaking in a rather quiet tone as always. “It’s been okay, I suppose? I mean, I miss home and all but that’s natural I guess.” She continued with a light shrug, looking down at her feet at the mention of home. “A-Anything you can do for me? I, I don’t think so..” She replied, shaking her head. 

Jason listened patiently as the girl explained her reasons for staying in here room, and as she gave an evaluation of her time at Safe Haven thus far. He couldn’t honestly say he understood what she meant about missing home, seeing as he hadn’t once looked back on the life he had left behind before coming here with any regret, but he did his best to try an sympathize. He had to remember that not everyone who came to Safe Haven did so to get away from everything in their life like he had; some of them had come to get away from something very specific, and that probably made it harder on them, having to leave all of the good parts of their life behind. “I think that’s natural yeah” Jason said with a nod, allowing for a sympathetic smile to show on his features. “I won’t say that it will get easier, because I honestly don’t know if it will, but hopefully with time, you’ll come to feel like this is a second home to you. And if there’s anything I can ever do for you to make that easier, just let me know, and I promise you’ll get it” Extending his head, Jason smiled before he added. “I’m Jason by the way. I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of meeting you before now. It’s good to have you here”

Jumpy by nature, Sylvi’s whole body flinched and froze in place before processing what and who it was. Her body softened and a smile grew on her face. “Y-You startled me,” she finished closing her door room over before giving Jason her full attention. “I think–I’m sure everyone is just getting used to things. Plus it’s, it’s super easy to get lost here… Maybe that’s just me.” Her eyes wandered over the walls and ceilings. She was making more progress on at least knowing how to get to one bathroom and one kitchen, respectively. She considered his question and offer momentarily. “It’s–This is so, so much better than where–My old house, I mean.” Her tone was full of a genuine inflection. “I don’t really… Mmm. Do you need any help? With–With anything? I’m good at housework.” It felt only right to offer, seeing as everyone was staying here essentially for free. 

Jason allowed an apologetic smile to find it’s way onto his features as the girl practically jumped out of her skin, and he reached out to place a bracing hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry. It wasn’t intentional. I mean, I don’t walk around the house just waiting for people to come out of a room so that I can scare them” He joked with a small shake of his head. As he listened to the girl speak, Jason nodded his head, allowing for his understanding to show itself on his face. The house was quite large, although, he couldn’t help but think there had to be a bit more to it than just that. He felt a genuine  joy when Sylvi shared that she felt this house was better than her old one, and allowed that joy to shine through on his features, although he neglected to let his pride show as well, because he knew that expression well, and it made him think of his father. “I’m glad to hear that” He said with a nod. “As long as you’re feeling comfortable here, then Safe Haven is succeeding in what it’s supposed to do” He was a little taken aback by the girl’s offer to help, although he didn’t allow it to show on his face. Instead, he put on a smile and shook his head slowly. “You don’t have to do that Sylvi. You’re a guest here. Plus we have a full staff here to do that stuff, and I don’t think they’d appreciate it if you took away their work” He said with a bit of a shrug and a small chuckle. “Just.. try to keep enjoying yourself here”

It was funny how, even though the house was now being occupied by quite a few people, the place still seemed to be rather quiet. As Jason wandered through the house, he couldn’t help but wonder how long it would be before everyone decided to emerge from the safe confines of their rooms and mingle about the rest of the house. It was right as he was thinking this, that he noticed someone emerging from one of the rooms, and he allowed for an easy smile to find it’s way to his lips. “Hey it’s good to see you. I was beginning to wonder if everyone had gone home without telling me” He joked lightly with a shake of his head. “How are you liking it here so far? Is there anything I can do for you?”

       the brunette feels her chest tighten, the only person who had EVER breathed sound into her soul is standing in front of her once again. standing there with the same stern look he’d given her the last time they interacted, the last time he had let her down. her words bubble in her throat as her ocean colored orbs stare back at jason. valerie’s aunt was dead-set on sending valerie somewhere after her all too close call of an overdose, what her aunt had forgotten to mention was that her EX-BOYFRIEND was currently holding down the place she was staying at. her gaze floats down to his pink petals, the ones she can recall a feeling of, taking in the corners of his lips turning as he softly mumbles her name. she wished she could hear that one last time. ❝ hi. ❞

The thing about Jason that frustrated himself beyond measure, and which, incidentally, had also frustrated Valerie when they were together, and had ultimately led to their breakup, was the fact that he was incapable of being caught up in the spur of the moment, or being swept up by his feelings. Nearly every reaction to everything he experienced was calculated, and only came through if he consciously let it, making none of his reactions one hundred percent genuine, even when they did come from an honest place and were driven by the emotions he was actually feeling. Right now, more than anything, he wanted his emotions to get the better of him for once in his life, and to make him do something rash. He wanted rational thought to fail him, so that he would take a step towards her, take her in his arms, and kiss her. And sure, he could have made himself do it, but she knew him well enough that she would be able to tell right away that he hadn’t been swept up, but had just forced himself to take such action.  It was infuriating that he could feel so much emotion towards her, and yet, none of it was able to break through his composure on it’s own. His face still remained passive despite the flurry of emotions that continued to rage inside of him, but he forced himself to allow some of his anguish to show, even though she would see right through it, and know it was one of his calculated reactions. Although he had refrained from asking her a moment earlier, this time, he forced himself to forget about the fact it made him vulnerable, and to forget the panic that fact caused him to feel, and asked the question most prominent in his mind. “What are you doing here?”

elena followed behind him closely, taking in all of her surroundings. it was a significant change to where she has stayed last, thankfully. this was a good place for her to be, she could already feel it. they reached her room and she stayed outside for a moment,   ❝ i don’t think you’re weird or stalker-ish at all. you’re awfully kind for… well everything. ❞ she was unsure of what to expect once she had entered her room, so when she  opened the door she was stunned. it was absolutely incredible.  ❝ wow… ❞ was all she could say. it was more than what she had expected.  she placed her tiny suitcase in a corner and walked back outside of her room,  ❝ thank you… this is amazing. can i ask how you managed to do all of this ?? i mean, it must have cost a LOT of money. ❞

Jason was relieved that she didn’t think he was some kind of a freak, and he allowed for his face to show as much, putting a gracious smile onto his features. “I do what I can” He said with a nod, and a bit of a shrug of his shoulders at her words. He allowed for her to have a moment to herself as she entered her room, which, judging from her reaction, meant something to her. For the second time since she had arrived a few moments ago, he couldn’t help but wonder where she came from, and what her situation was. When she returned to him outside of the room and directed her question at him, he was a little bit taken aback by it, although his face, as usual, didn’t show that he was surprised, remaining totally composed. He considered her, and the question she posed, for a moment, deciding how best to answer it. He really had no reason to keep the truth a secret from the people here, but it was his natural tendency to hold everything back, to never give away too much to the people around him. “I come from a wealthy family. And I wanted to do something worthwhile with some of that wealth.” He said finally with a bit of a nod. For a moment he considered elaborating a bit further, but he ultimately decided that it sufficed as an answer.

       ❝ what makes you think i want to speak to you?? ❞ valerie’s words are slowed, fingers tapping together to form her unspoken language. she doesn’t do this for the other especially knowing they probably don’t know the first thing about sign language but instead it’s out of habit. her demeanor is fully changed, arms prodding around her chest as she gives the other a nasty look.

There were a lot of things that Jason had prepared for when he had decided to open Safe Haven; but the emergence of the only girl he had ever loved was not one of those things. As his eyes fell upon her, there were a million different emotions that were screaming inside of him, demanding to be released, but of course, not a single of them showed itself on his face. Not the surprise, or the anguish, or the happiness, nothing. His face remained completely composed like a mask, as he stared silently for a long moment. “Hello Valerie” He said finally, speaking slowly, and being sure to enunciate his words. He felt inclined to ask what she was doing here; actually, he felt inclined to ask her a lot of different questions, but he refrained, not wanting to betray the fact that he had been taken by surprise.

Axel stared back at the man who was looking at him. He was sure he recognised the face- he was the guy who started this whole thing- was he not? He shook his thoughts as he heard the other boy speak. He was less than amused at what the other was saying. “Ha. Ha. Ha.” He rolled his eyes. He quickly came to the realisation that if this was indeed the person that formed this organization he shouldn’t be being short with him. “I don’t like people.” He grunted out as nicely as he could muster. “I’m just not that good at the whole ‘social’ thing. My room is much nicer.” He shrugged.

The cold demeanor with which the other man was acting took Jason by surprise, although that fact was not reflected on his face, which, as usual, remained completely composed, not giving anything that was happening inside of his head away. Instead, he just nodded his head at the man’s words. “I can understand that. People can be a bit of a hassle” He agreed, thinking of his father. “Listen, if you came here to get away from people, and just be by yourself, then that’s your business. I just thought I should introduce myself, since I’m trying to make sure I do that with everyone. So yeah, I’m Jason Elway. If you ever need anything in the time you’re staying here, you let me know, and I’ll make sure you get it” Once he had finished his speech, Jason allowed a polite smile to find it’s way onto his features, while he extended his hand in offering of a handshake

Z had his headphones in taking his stuff towards his room and only when the music stopped he heard someone talk and he smiled looking over at the other.  “Thanks, nice to meet you Jason, I’m Z.” he adjusted the boxes in his arm and held out the other. “Uh, yeah it’s just that last box.” he nudged it with his foot. 

Jason took the other male’s hand and shook it firmly, arching a brow a bit as he introduced himself. “Z? I assume that’s gotta be short for something?” Jason asked with a small laugh as he bent down to pick up the last box, and began to carry it up the stairs. “Did you find the place alright? I know the driveway can be a bit hard to spot. I won’t deny that it’s kind of on purpose”

It’d been a few days now and Axel had finally just decided it was time to emerge from his room. It’d been months since he’s had any face to face human interaction so preparing to get back into the swing of it was exhausting. He was nearly out his door when he noticed someone. His signature scowl in full swing as he groaned. “Haven’t seen someone who’s 6′6′’ before?”

Jason had been paying attention to the arrivals at Safe Haven ever since the first day, and he had certainly noticed the very tall male when he had arrived, although almost as soon as he stepped through the front door, he was gone again, having withdrawn into the confines of his room. As far as Jason was aware, the man hadn’t emerged since then, seeing as he hadn’t noticed him; and he was definitely the type of person you couldn’t help but notice the presence of. That’s why, when Jason heard the sound of the door open as he was heading to his room to grab something, and he saw the tall figure emerge, he stopped in his tracks, his eyes transfixed on him. When he heard the male’s words, he felt embarrassed for having been staring so long, but that feeling was completely internalized, with not even the slightest hint of it appearing on his features. He gave a small shrug of his shoulders at the man’s question. “I have actually. You. A couple days ago” He said with a nod. “But I haven’t seen you since, so I wasn’t sure if I had been imagining things or not. Good to know that I wasn’t”

          it’s been a full twenty-four hours of brenna sitting in her room with absolutely no intention of getting up to walk around a bit. the girl hadn’t even glanced twice at her bags, leaving them unpacked and sprawled across the very end of her bed. her attention, though, is soon moving towards the figure in her doorway, book in her hands being lowered as she arches an eyebrow at the visitor.   ❛   knocking is a thing. you should do it more often.   ❜   it’s not long before she’s closing the book and sitting up more with her back to the wall.   ❛   can i help you?   ❜

Although Jason had tried his best to greet every person who had come to Safe Haven over the past few days, there were still some that had managed to elude him. This fact left him feeling somewhat conflicted: On the one hand, he didn’t want to force his company upon anyone who didn’t want it, seeing as that sort of went against the entire purpose of Safe Haven to begin with, but on the other hand, as the founder, he felt as though it was his responsibility to ensure that everyone who came here knew that he was the one to come to about any issues that they might have during their stay.  That was why he was making his rounds; just to let those people he hadn’t talked to yet know that if they needed anything at all during their stay, all they needed to do was ask. He had entered this girl’s room with that very clear intention in his head: to get in, tell her what he needed to tell her, and then leave her to her peace. But, his focus on getting in and out without bothering her too much had caused him to make a mistake by just walking into her room without so much as a knock; a fact that she didn’t hesitate to point out. There was a great deal of guilt bubbling up inside of him due to this mistake he made, but in his usual fashion, his face did not betray any of it. His composure remained in tact, his facial expression calm and collected, but when he opened his mouth to speak, the sincere tone of his words, at least, gave away the fact that he felt bad. “I’m so sorry” He said with a nod “You know, my father always said to me, that only weaklings and cowards wait for permission to enter a room. That the conquerors of the world walk into every room like they own it, because sooner or later, they actually will.” He spoke the words as though he was reciting a fact, his face still not giving much of anything about what was going on inside of him away. Then, he paused to shake his head, a small, humorless laugh escaping him. “I don’t want to be my father. I should have knocked, and I apologize” Turning on his heel without another word, Jason left the room, and closed the door behind him. He waited in the hall just outside the door for a brief moment, before knocking on the door this time.

elena watched him cautiously, she was intrigued by him more than anything. when she first heard about safe haven she pictured someone more middle aged or something. but he… he was so young, and attractive too. elena shook the thought out of her head, she didn’t need to be thinking like that. not after everything that happened. still, she couldn’t help but wonder what his story was, she was sure there was some reason he would build a place like this… something MUST have happened in his life. but she wouldn’t ask that, not when she herself wasn’t ready to talk about her own past. ❝ i would like that, thank you, ❞ she said in response to his question.  ❝ where should i put my stuff ?? ❞

Jason allowed a small smile to grace his features as she agreed to let him show her around, chuckling the smallest bit at her question that followed. “Well that will be our first stop on the tour” He attempted to joke, although it felt like somewhat feeble one to him. After all, it wasn’t as though he had a great deal of experience when it came to being humorous; and the experience that he did have from his days in boarding school had pretty much been stomped out of him in the years since then. Motioning with his hand in a grand gesture to indicate that they should head up the stairs, Jason led the way, stopping at the top of the staircase to wait for her to finish the climb herself. Once they were there, he led the way down the hall, until they found themselves outside of the door that belonged to her. Realizing a bit too late how weird that might seem to her, he quickly scrambled to explain himself. “I promise I’m not some weird stalker guy or something” He tried to clarify quickly. It was then that the lightest of blushes grace his cheeks, sending his brain into an almost panic as he quickly tried to compose himself and bury his embarrassment; a natural reaction, conditioned into him from years of not being allowed to betray such emotion. It took him only a second to fully regain his composure. “Yeah. I sort of made it a point to memorize where every one of the guests would be staying” He explained further with a nod. “So that’s why I knew exactly which room was yours without having to ask you which room you’d been assigned to.”

Alright so basically I’m total trash, and even though I gave up Chris Wood as a face claim with the intention of letting someone else take him, because he’s a fairly popular face claim, I totally caved and changed Jason’s face back. When I first came up with the idea for this rp, and by consequence, came up with the idea for Jason, Chris Wood was the face that I was picturing, and I just can’t get into the idea of anyone else being him (not even someone as fantastic as Steven R. Mcqueen) I feel a little bit guilty, but I think it’s what had to be done.

Carefully holding onto his first moving box, Elijah shifted it; taking slightly more effort than he was expecting to move it to a single arm so he could adjust the strap of his hefty duffle bag on his shoulder. He peered cooly to the man ahead of him, and took a bit longer than necessary to respond. It was by no mistake that he did this. Eli knew exactly who the man was, and as far as he was concerned, Jason was a part of the problem. “Thanks.” His tone was curt and after his drawn out pause in the doorway, he proceeded into the house. “Don’t bother,” he groaned, dropping the box on the floor by the wall. “Unless you’re offering to unpack and organize everything, I’d rather do it myself.” Keeping a steady, subtly annoyed gaze on Jason for a few seconds, Elijah shrugged. “So, you started this thing up then?”

Jason was momentarily taken aback by the iciness of the other male’s behavior, but he quickly brushed it off. There were a lot of different reasons why the man could be acting in such a manner, and though Jason was undeniably curious as to which of them it might be, he suppressed the urge to inquire, and simply shrugged his shoulders. “Alright man, I’ll leave you to do your thing then” He said, before turning to walk away. However, when he heard the question come from the other, he half turned back towards him, and gave a small nod of his head. “Yeah I did.” He confirmed. He contemplated explaining the reason why he had started Safe Haven, but instead, simply gave a casual shrug of his shoulders and remained silent; after all, it’s not as though the man had asked.

elena had been on the road for a month now, spending her time in a musty old motel. she had heard of the safe haven jason created, however, she had no idea how elaborate it was in reality. she stepped through the front door, her eyes searching up and down the entrance hall. upon seeing the boy, a subtle smile appeared on her face, ❝ hi, i’m elena, ❞ she muttered. as he spoke, her eyes fell down to her suitcase. she simply shrugged, ❝ i think i got this, but thank you. ❞ 

Jason responded to her shrug with one of his own, before he nodded his head. “Alright, if you’re sure” He said, burying his hands into the pockets of his pants as he surveyed her silently. She was a beautiful girl, there was no doubt about that. He couldn’t help but wonder, as he was sure he would probably wonder about every person who came to stay here, why she had come to Safe Haven. Of course, he wasn’t about to ask such an invasive question, so he quickly pushed the thought from his mind, before allowing a warm smile to find it’s way onto his features. “Well, will you let me show you around at least?” He asked with a small tilt of his head.He felt tempted to add that he would enjoy having the company, after spending so much time in the house by himself, but he refrained from saying as much, simply leaving it at his question.
