⭒ 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐅𝐎𝐎𝐓 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒 𝐇𝐈𝐌. there isn't supposed to be anyone else here, in that there is not supposed to be anyone here at all, but the sound of footsteps 𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙜𝙪𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚 in the eerie silence of the decommissioned grocery store. a hand that had been reaching for what looked like a can or a jar left alone on the top shelf stills, curling back into jasper's body which tenses up with the sudden sense that he is not alone. but it's not like he's about to be caught doing anything horrendous, no devious criminal acts planned for the evening besides the light trespassing of a guy and his camera to get a few shots with an urban exploratory edge, and so he decides there is little reason to panic just yet. ⸻ 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦'𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰, not really. he peeks out from the end of an aisle, straining his eyes against the darkness to make out the details of human shaped shadow and failing. whoever, whatever they are, they stand between jasper and the exit, and swallowing hard against nervousness, he finds his voice.

⭑ 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐍𝐀𝐏𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐓 : 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐑 ! ⸻ jasper is partial to a tee shirt under a sweater or hoodie, pretty much year round. occasionally, if it's just too hot, you'll find him in a 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘰𝘳 𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 tee, but regardless, the outfit it completed by a pair of inevitably ripped or faded jeans. both his everyday boots and his back up converses have seen better days and accessorizing is extremely minimal, fashion and appearances not something on which jasper is willing to spend more than approximately 5-7 minutes max on daily, which must include the caretaking of long hair. there is nothing particularly noteworthy or memorable about the way he dresses, making it much easier to blend into a crowd in a nondescript manner.

Jax acts composed but it’s only because he’s scrambling internally. Part of him wondered how much of an open book his every action is to someone who’s seen him in his most candid. Inked hand rubs at the side of his neck. His posture is certainly more laxed then only minutes before. He helps himself to a spoon he spots on the counter and proceeds to heap three spoons more sugar in before finally stirring it.

His lack of looking at Jasper doesn’t mean he isn’t listening. If anything, he couldn’t NOT listen with this insanely good hearing. He’s trying to hide the mild embarassment he’s feeling under such praise ( was that what this was? ) and most of it was because Jax really hadn’t ever seen anything in that light. ( That’s not true. ) He has to mindfully keep a tight jaw to refrain from awkward laughter possibly escaping.  ❝  Uh… well, first; thanks, I guess? ❞ 

He finally takes another sip of his coffee, nodding his head in approval with it’s sweetness.  ❝  Can’t really say I’’ve ever considered myself a glow kinda person but then again, Salem calls me little miss sunshine.  ❞ Sharp and humored exhale seems to exsponge some of the tension in his bones but he carries on ––  ❝  Okay. Let’s start over. ❞ It’s a slow nudge off the counter and a step forward with extended hand.  ❝ I’m Jaxson but everyone usually just calls me Jax. ❞

          ⭑       𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒   𝐖𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍   𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐋𝐘   𝐀𝐓   𝐓𝐇𝐄   𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐑   𝐎𝐅   𝐀   𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃.  it  is  truly   the  very  last  reaction  jasper  could  have  predicted  at  the  way  he  poured  his  confession  at  jax’s  feet,  𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮  𝙤𝙧  𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙩  seeming  far  more  likely  when  he’d  calculated  the  odds  of  what  the  other  might  say.  and  yet,  just  as  he  had  miraculously  absorbed  the  frankly  mind  annihilating  fact  that  he  was  now  an  undead  thing  like  that  of  movies  and  horror  stories,  he  appears  to  expand  further  to  make  room  for  these  messy,  unpolished  truths  that  jasper  has  let  tumble  from  his  mouth  ⸻   which  he  has  mercifully  thought  to  towel  clean  in  jax’s  absence  so  he  does  not  profess his  adoration  from  bloodied  lips  and  they  can  pretend  this  is  a  suitable,  nearly  normal  introduction.

            “ 𝐣𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫 ,  ”  he  introduces  himself  in  turn,  sliding  his  hand  into  jax’s with  the  unpracticed  stiffness  of  someone  who  cannot  recall  the  last  time  he  has  engaged  in  such  small  social  normalcies,  or  even  the  last  time  he  touched  skin  without  the  intent  to  devour.  jax’s  skin  is  undoubtedly  only  warm  from  the  shower,  coldness  of  death  beginning  to  underwrite  that  warmth,  but  it  burns  jasper  up  to  have  this  one  small  incidence  of  grace  and  understanding  from  the  stranger.  his  gaze  travels  back  up  to  jax’s  and  something  that  looks  remarkably  like  a  smile  gravitates  to  his  lips.  maybe things really could be okay.

     “  it’s  really  nice  to  meet  you,  jax.  i’m  sorry  it  had  to  be,  you  know,  [ . . . ]  like  this,  but  i  really  can  help  you  figure  this  out.  people  don’t  have  to  get  hurt  for  it  to  work. ”

          “  these  woods  are  a  good  place  to  do  that   ––  to  cage  yourself  up  to  keep  everyone  else  safe, ”  he  speaks  with  a  knowing  sadness  on  this  matter,  taking  a  drag  off  of  his  own  cigarette  which  he  holds  more  than  smokes.  “  i’ve  done  it  here  for  years,  now. it’s  worked  for  me.  ”
