𝓫rief. if there's one thing jax is good at, it's driving you insane. and making you flustered. really, really, flustered. fluff/sillies. flirting. no mentions of established relationship, but it's alluded to. you're just trying not to kill him ૮꒰◞ ˕ ◟ ྀི꒱ა
“you’re holding it upside down,” he says, not looking at you. “and a little to the left. no, my left. your other left.”
it takes you a moment to realize that he's standing on another ladder just a couple feet from you, tending (expect not really) to the other side of the wall, meaning you have the same left.
you sigh, fighting the urge to throw the entire roll of banner at him. “jax, if you don’t stop, i swear to god—”
“oh, is that a threat?” he asks, his tone so insufferably casual it makes your teeth ache. “because i'm really, really scared.” he says the last part in a high-pitched, mocking voice that makes you want to climb jax's ladder and push him off it yourself.
yeah, fuck caine. fuck caine and this stupid adventure. how is party-planning with jax fun? how is that supposed to keep you sane? whose party were you planning, anyways?
you finally manage to smooth the banner and start pulling it taut, but he’s still not doing anything. at this point, he'd be better off leaving you alone.
clenching you teeth, you narrow your eyes at him. "jax!"
"you called?" his eyes barely meet yours, but he stops inspecting the strap of his overalls.
"you're so unhelpful, asshole."
“you know, you’d be a lot better at this if you didn’t keep pulling on it so hard,” he drawls, his ears flopping over as he tilts his head at you. “it’s not a wrestling match, it’s decorating.”
“shut up,” you snap, yanking on the rope again. it slips from your grasp, and the banner swings down, knocking jax’s ladder off balance.
he flails, a small yelp escaping him, before he manages to right himself. you can’t help but let out a small, satisfied smirk.
“woah there, easy,” he says, his voice a little shaky this time. He climbs down, eyes narrowed as he looks up at you. “what was that for?”
“that was for being an absolute menace for the past hour,” you retort, hands on your hips as you follow his movements, your feet landing on the ground.
he just stands there for a moment, a strange look on his face that you can’t quite decipher. then, a slow, wide grin spreads across his face. he grabs your hand, lacing his gloved fingers with yours, and pulls you closer.
“well, you know what they say,” he says, his voice a low purr. “the best way to build camaraderie is to get a little physical, right?”
he doesn’t wait for an answer. He leans in and plants a soft kiss on your cheek, right where you know there isn’t any dirt or paint. you’re frozen, and he pulls away, that infuriatingly smug look back on his face.
“now, let’s try that again,” he says, winking at you. “but this time, try not to kill your partner.”
