“That’s quite alright. I’m not exactly the easiest person to be around– or so I’ve been told.” the blonde chucked amused before giving a short nod. “Yeah, that should have me covered for the next two weeks or so. How much is it going to be?”

“Honestly it doesn’t have much to do with you. At least I don’t think it does. It’s just me being awkward. Give me a room full of college kids and I’m cool but in the real world I’m a disaster.” He checked the total, “Thirty even.”

“You’re rambling.” Freya observed, chuckling slightly. “I do not mind– I mainly use it for meditation purposes. It calms me down and helps me concentrate. I’ll take the bottle.”

“right sorry. I tend to do that a lot and I’m going to stop talking now before it gets worse.” He rang everything up and placed it all in a bag for her. “Is that all?” He hadn’t seen her in here before and he couldn’t recall seeing her around town. But he didn’t pay much attention either. He knew she was a witch, a powerful one. Even he could sense that from her.

“How long exactly, if you do not mind me asking?” an eyebrow quirked upwards as the witch posed her question “So it’s a family business, I assume? Do you keep lavender oil around? I know this isn’t typical witch supply– but I thought I would ask.”

“Since before I was born. This shop has been in the family for generations so I’ve been told. I was adopted. My moms the witch I just help out when I can. I’m a professor at the college.” He thought for a second before bending down and digging through a cabinet. “We’ve got one bottle. It’s probably older than my mom but if you want it I’m sure it won’t be missed.”

“Yes, and I would like some sage too– please.” Freya murmured as she continued to walk and look around the shop “You have a nice range of herbs here– may I ask where you get all of these from?”

Jaxson nodded and collected the herbs the woman requested and packed them up for her. “My mother has been doing this a long time. What she can’t get her hands I usually can. Especially the rarer ones.”

“I’m grabbing it by the horns, that’s for sure,” she said, sitting back down on the bench with a defeated sigh, “I’m don’t even wanna think about what’s gonna happen when they get older.” That was a lie. Of course she had read a thousand books all on the topic of the trials of parenting adolescents.

Jaxson nodded, “ It kind of makes you feel bad for your own parents. I mean dealing with all my students I always go visit my mom and apologize profusely for ever behaving like that.” He chuckled. “I get that. Sorry I’m not some creepy pedophile or anything. I’m a college professor. Usually cut through here to go home. Couldn’t help but stop though.

“I don’t think it ever did– if we’re being honest here, I do believe you quite enjoy the thrill that comes with it. Am I right or– am I right?”

Jaxs grinned, “Yeah I do have a bit of a dark side. I suppose that’s why you were so attractive to me. You embrassed the darkness in you.”

“Being associated with me in any way is dangerous– there’s no need to beat around the bush. I know I have enemies– but I think it pays off on some sort of level. I give great advice and I’m quite literally awesome.”

“I can’t say the threat of danger scares me away so I don’t mind being in your corner. Some danger might actually be a good thing in my life. Being the stuffy old Professor thing is kind of old.”

“You can protect yourself without being a supernatural being, Jaxs. Hell, if Matt Donovan has managed to live through all of this, then you should be dandy. Try not to draw too much attention upon yourself, though. People like to stick their nose in other people’s business.”

“I don’t know who that is but I’ll consider it a compliment anyway. You know how i am. I don’t really like attention. I’m more of a stay in the shadows kind of guy.” He shrugged, “Being friends with you is probably dangerous but I can handle it.”

“You’re not just some helpless human, Jaxson– don’t sell yourself short. You know a lot of things ,the perks of doing all that research– I very much doubt that there are many things that could catch you off guard. And if it’s your survival you’re worried about, you know that all you need to do is say the word. “

“Doing research and knowing how to actually protect yourself are two very different things. Though catching me off guard has always been a difficult thing to do. I know what to look for. I know but hopefully it won’t be necessary. I keep my nose out of trouble and I’ve become pretty adept at protions and I tracked down some rare protective charms.”

“Women are stubborn. Your mother is one hell of a lady– no offense, but really. I’m sure the doctor didn’t expect her to follow orders– did you?” Katherine laughed “Why is she worrying, though? You haven’t been causing much havoc or I would have heard about it. Looks like you’ve kept yourself on the down low as per the usual.”

“No I didn’t.” He laughed. “I’m sure she’ll die in that store. I haven’t much. I’ve been learning a few things here and there but not enough to draw attention to myself. I’m not a witch but I can do a thing or two now. I mean the way things are in this town having a few tricks up your sleeve is the only way to survive as a human.”

“I liked you in a shirt though.” Katherine chuckled “Well, as long as it is working out for you then I guess that’s a good thing. How’s your mother doing? Still running the shop, I assume?”

“My mom is good. Worries more about me then anything.” He chuckled. “I think she might actually end up out living me. She refuses to retire despite my and the Doctors orders.”

“Sounds like your efforts finally started to pay off– I see nothing wrong with that.” Katherine grinned “I am glad to hear that you are on a roll. “

“Well I can’t take all the credit. I think it had to do with my more hands on approach. Also they’ve requested I leave the flannel at home and start wearing more t shirts. I don’t know. Maybe it’ a safety thing.”

“I’m not worried.” Katherine shook her head “I wouldn’t be here in the first place, if I was. Plotting your death would have been the better option.” she joked “People don’t know how to appreciate you enough, if so.”

“I would expect nothing less. I don’t know. Maybe I’m cursed. But it’s fine. Gives me more time to focus on work. My classes seem to have doubled in size. I’ve actually had to start turning people away.”
