Not sure if there is canon information for or against this but I had to think about Ozai in prison and he kinda strikes me as;

First he is still fierce, talking about breaking free, his title etc

But he was (probably, again I am not fully in the lore) also a child of abuse, so his mind would probably falter and bring him to a place of peace

I'd say after 5 years his mental health really starts to falter

After 10 he is mainly in his mind, where he builds himself a world that he still rules, a world he can control

Leading to him yelling command through his cell, sometimes startling himself when it echoes back, remembering him where he is

To him being so trapped in it, that he forgets to eat by himself... And that's eventually also how he dies
