Parker nodded, listening as Jay vaguely brought up an upcoming transaction.

“Yeah. Gotta make sure that goes smoothly. Don’t want people getting the wrong idea just because the Kings are back.”

“Do me a favor, Jay. Keep an eye on Mia. Especially after this shit. We need to double down on security.”

“Exactly. People have to know this city will always belong to your family. The sooner the better their lives will be.”

There was a small pause at Parker’s words before giving an assured nod. “Of course, you don’t have to ask me twice. She probably won’t be a fan of it, but I’ll handle it.”

“Yes, Koda, I can hear you whining,” Mia shouted upstairs from her bedroom, grabbing her phone and keys before making her way downstairs to her living room, her three year old German Shepherd already waiting by her front door. “The fucking dramatics.” By definition, Mia hated any and all types of exercise, hence why taking Koda on walks—and running around LA in six inch heels—was the closest the blonde would ever get. Securing Koda’s harness and grabbing her leash, Mia heard a knock at the door and was pleasantly surprised to see coffee and Jay on the other side. “I thought you were doing something were handling something with Trevor today…?” the blonde questioned as she reached out for the coffee with one hand while simultaneously gripping the dog leash and locking her front door with the other. “Regardless, I’m taking Koda for a walk,” she felt the dog tugging her towards the exit once more, “and she’s about to yank my arm off, so, let’s go.”

“And this is why it’s good to double check on things just to be certain. You know I’m only a call or text away,” he teased a little with a small smile, eyes looking down at the dog sniffing his leg for a brief second. “I can spare some time before I have to take care of my business. Just wanting to see how you’re doing,” he admitted before taking a sip of his coffee. It was something he liked doing with the Cohen family, but it hardly came as a surprise to know that Jay had a soft spot for the youngest of the family. “Alright, fair enough. It’d be kinda hard to have to explain that one to your family and the public. We can always come up with a more badass story to protect that rep of yours.”

“No no, don’t worry about that. How about I come out there instead? Or we both visit some other place,” Jay suggested to his little sister, who he was currently on the phone with. He’d do whatever it takes to keep his sister far away from Los Angeles. “Trust me, shit out here is over hyped anyways. We’ll figure something out... alright, love you.”

Jay stepped out of his parked car after hanging up the phone, making sure he didn’t leave the two cups of coffee he got on his way to Mia’s. What a beautiful start to his day, he thought to himself. A soft knock was given on the door, a hand extending out once it had been opened. “Just the way you like it.”

‘Good thing for us then, huh?’

While Parker typically enjoyed moments like these alone, he didn’t mind Jay’s company. The only thing that he’d really fault the man for was his overwhelmingly intense loyalty to Trevor. And that was coming from Parker, Trevor’s own flesh and blood. That loyalty, however, was difficult to come by.

“No. Thanks. I just finished, actually,” he told Jay, sipping on the last bit of wine. “Just getting through this wine.”

He poured himself a fresh glass, grabbing a clean, empty one nearby for Jay.

“What’s T got you up to lately?”

There was no question on who Jay was the closest to when it came to the Cohen family, but it was because of that friendship it mattered a lot to Jay to establish a solid bond with the rest of the family. He still struggled on knowing whether or not they saw him as only just an employee or apart of the family.

There was a small nod of his head after Parker’s response before pulling up a chair to take a seat. “Just the usual stuff, ya know,” he replied with a low sigh. “We do have that big sell coming up soon though, so just finishing up the preparations on that,” he added as he reached over for the other glass, stirred the wine slowly a few times and took a sip.

Though there were rampant rumors that the King brothers were back, Parker wasn’t entirely worried. Trevor held a firm grip on the city of Los Angeles. If anything… it’d make things more interesting. Keep his brother preoccupied.

Parker had decided to end the night at his favorite Italian restaurant in the city. He was looking into purchasing it, so they often made exceptions for him. Like allowing him to stick around, long after they’d closed their doors. He’d been seated in the outdoor dining area, enjoying a glass of wine, when he heard footsteps approach.

“They’re closed.”

Word was quickly spreading around of the Kings, and despite how much he tried to avoid it Jay found himself hearing the whispers in almost every corner he turned. Even within the deals made today some had the audacity to ask himself about it. As if he even cared or had any idea on whether the three brothers would decide to show up. As far as Jay was concerned they were better off staying away from the city. Them leaving was the best thing to happen in his eyes.

It came to no surprise to see the lights still on inside the restaurant well after closing hours as he parked his car and made his way inside the building. Truth be told he had hopes of finding Trevor but seeing Parker with a drink in his hand could be considered a close second on good things to stumble upon.

“Good thing for us then, huh? Now I can head back in the kitchen and whip something up how I like it... and what about you? Want me to fix something up for you boss?”
