Great video by the Times Op-Doc series, which, in general, has been great. One note: The neurological sensation he describes, where the body feels a meditative euphoria when it's accelerating at a pace that does not cause stress has a direct corollary in surfing: "The Stoke." That feeling is accessible to nearly anyone -- if you can get yourself to Cowell's in Santa Cruz or San Onofre in Orange County or Waikiki and prop yourself up on a 10 foot longboard and catch a long, rolling wave, you'll feel the same sensation. Best feeling in my life is still the first wave I rode and for a while, I dedicated every day of my life (2 years) to replicating that feeling.
Did you know that Oscar voters are nearly 94% white and 77% male? Well if you didn't, now you do.
More people should know this shit before we go around idolizing those bullshit awards.
its too bad Sebald wasn't around for this. h/t runofplay
80 word book reviews: Columbine by Dave Cullen
Obsessive reporting sometimes too concerned with showing its obsessiveness but still, obsessive reporting yields some valuable information about Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Perhaps a bit too confident in its own conclusion that Eric was a psychopath, driven by psychopathy, who committed one massive psychopathic act and dragged along his depressive friend. Still, the definitive book on Columbine. Worth reading if you want the actual story and not the media bullshit about trenchcoat mafias, jocks, racism and bullying.
INTERVIEWER You’ve said that you possibly had an American side to you. What is your evidence for this? HOUELLEBECQ I have very little proof. There’s the fact that if I lived in an American context, I think I would have chosen a Lexus, which is the best quality for the price. And more obscurely, I have a dog that I know is very popular in the United States, a Welsh Corgi. One thing I don’t share is this American obsession with large breasts. That, I must admit, leaves me cold. But a two-car garage? I want one. A fridge with one of those ice-maker things? I want one too. What appeals to them appeals to me.

He looks so tired.
That dude from Sum 41 looks great these days, by the way.
Some people should never stop doing cocaine.
I did feel kind of sad about missing the Does This Look Infected? tour last fall, but now.
