And gosh, I don’t know what to do.” Emily sighed and threw her head back, eyes closed to try and relax. Her head was a mess anyway. Deep inside she knew how much Ali cared but sometimes she doubted it, and she had her reasons to do so. Especially considering their past. “If she really loves me Jay… I’m sorry but we’re not kids anymore. Playing around isn’t what I do, and I need answers but then she told me about the pregnancy and I don’t want to make her feel worse.”

“Yeah, it’s a Dilaurentis thing. We’re not exactly great at expressing our feelings. Not that I’m trying to make excuses for her.” She added, not wanting Emily to think she was just defending her sister. Jaycee remained quiet as Emily admitted that she wasn’t in it for games anymore, that she needed to know where Alison was at in regards to her feelings. She didn’t blame her for that. It had to be difficult waiting for so long and not getting anywhere with it. “I know. You might just.. need to confront her about it. I know she’s fragile and everything, but as long as you give her the leeway she’s just going to keep putting you off. If she thinks she’s really going to lose you, she’ll have to admit how she feels.”

“That would be, amazing. I’m so tired Jay.” Alison whispered, actually letting her walls down a touch. “Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone has that control. I’ll always be hurt and I don’t k-know what I’m going to do, with…the, well, you know. But, I love you and I appreciate you, and you being you. So much. I’m sorry I’m such, I was..so awful to you.” The blond said, softly. With a child, of her own, potentially, entering the world, she wanted to make sure that it did with a clean conscious and slate.

“It’s no problem.” Jaycee focused on her sister’s words instead of the essay in her lap. As Alison told her she loved her and softly apologized, she shook her head, bringing her arms around her and hugging her gently. “Ali, we weren’t exactly brought up in a normal family. We’re not so good at showing our affection. But maybe we can change. We can be better than them.” Jaycee kissed the other blonde’s cheek before slowly withdrawing her arms. “I love you too. Always will, baby sis.”

“Mayor’s Office is organizing a blood drive, so that’s something I’m both helping set up and donating blood, but other than that… I don’t really know what’s close to my heart. Or rather, what’s closest. I care about a lot of things, obviously, but where to start…” With ambitions in politics, stemming from seeing a world that could use some definite fixing and people that were getting shafted over arbitrary reasons, Spencer cared deeply about a lot of things. Starting to prioritize would be a good first step to one day drafting policies and preparing election speeches for herself. “That would be wonderful. You can leave all the pitching and explaining to me. Positive over negative bias.” She wiped her fingertips on a napkin after she had finished her pastry, then settled back and crossed her legs, the closest thing Spencer Hastings would ever get to slouching. “We should do this more often. It’s been nice catching up with you.”

“Hey, donating blood, that’s always a good cause. Maybe I’ll donate, if you think the evil Dilaurentis blood would make a difference in anyone’s life.” Jaycee commented with amusement before allowing her hand to gently rest on Spencer’s shoulder, meeting her gaze quietly. “You’ll figure it out, Spence. I have no doubt about that.” She assured her with a squeeze and withdrew her hand to continue eating her pastry which she had almost abandoned in favor of the conversation at hand. “Yeah? We’ll make a great team, the two of us. How could she possibly say no?” Licking the icing from her fingers, she then wiped them with the napkin, cocking her head to the side as Spencer said how nice it was to catch up. “Yeah, we should. You about to run off on me already?”

“A timeshare? How very grown-up of you.” Spencer couldn’t deny the idea of going to the beach with her sister was an appealing idea; personally, she had never been overly fond of beach vacations in and of themselves, but with good company… Well, what was there to say no for? “But that would be great. By the looks of it, we’re going to have a pretty good summer.” After A and AD finally being over and this taxing new job, she could use the time to recharge her mental batteries. “You know, it might, so I’ll enjoy my body for as long as it stays this way. But between being on my feet all day and constantly walking around getting this or that, I think I still get some exercise in. Maybe it’ll be enough to keep me on this size for a few more years.” Aside from suddenly having a maternal wish, she can’t imagine herself gaining much weight; then again, all the unhealthy food might start to pile up and tip the scales. But she’d deal with that if she ever came to it. “You should probably go shower soon, now you’re really starting to smell.” She said it with a cheeky, wide grin and a tilt of her head though. “And you keep attracting looks from pretty girls that don’t dare come up to you because you’re with me. As your sister I’m supposed to wing woman you, not repel your options.”

“Yeah, well, I couldn’t justify buying a beach house, so...” Jaycee laughed though, because Spencer was right, it sounded like something their parents would have said. They might have grown up, but they were still the same people at heart and they certainly were not becoming their parents. Their experiences had shaped both of them into beings practically indistinguishable from their family members. “I hope so. I could use a good summer. Soaking up the sun’s rays, recharging my batteries... I’m a child of the sun, I need it to be happy. The thought of laying out in my bikini is a pretty appealing one.” The realtor chuckled as her sister expressed her intentions to stay hot as long as she could. Spencer was athletic just like she was, and though they didn’t necessarily exercise in traditional ways, both of them were muscular. Jaycee took it to another level, but even then she didn’t really like working out on exercise equipment. She preferred to do it in the real world. As the younger woman commented on her smell, she judged her and laughed before looking around to catch the eye of the pretty girls to which Spencer was referring. “Damn. We need to get you a shirt that says ‘she’s my sister.’ With an arrow pointing at me.” Getting to her feet she bent down to deliberately mess up her sister’s hair. “That platonic enough for you? Hey. Don’t be a stranger. For real. I want us to spend more time together now that we can, alright?”

Aria’s breath caught in her throat once she felt Jaycee’s hand on her bare knee. The one day she decided to wear a mini skirt… Before she knew it, Jaycee pulled away, and the brunette tried her best to act like none of it had affected her. Aria managed a smile on her face as she looked back up at the other woman with a nod. “Oh,” she chuckled shyly, “Well, that’s good.” When the waitress came back with their drinks, Aria mirrored Jaycee’s actions with her own drink. After taking a sip, a look of concern washed over her face as she tilted her head to the side. “Yeah, I’m glad to be here,” she replied, “Rough day? What’s going on?”

Aria had always been a good liar, and thus, Jaycee did not notice anything amiss in her reaction to her ex’s touch. As far as she was concerned her former flame saw her in a strictly platonic fashion. Even if she didn’t, Aria was engaged and off limits, despite what Jaycee thought about the mistake she was making. The blonde’s heart beat a little faster when she saw the concern on the other woman’s face. She shook her head, not wanting Aria to be too worried. “Nothing I can’t handle. It was just a rough day at work. I’m selling this guy’s house, and he’s a complete dick because he thinks his house is worth more than it is. He actually called me a bitch! But hey, I made it through the day without punching him, so that’s a win.” Fiddling with her straw, she lifted her head to meet Aria’s dark doe eyes, willing her heart to slow down. Her face softened as she looked at the woman she loved and her voice dropped a few octaves as she leaned in closer to make a confession. “I’ve... missed you,” Jayce admitted. Things between the two of them had been so good. It was hard trying to let her go now. Letting her feelings out was even more difficult, but she would regret it forever if she didn’t let her know how she felt. “Aria, I -- I just want you to know... I’ve never wanted anything from you. Just for you to be happy... and if she makes you happy, then I’m happy for you. You deserve the world. I’m just sorry I wasn’t able to give it to you.” Carefully she reached her hand across the bar, placing hers on top of Aria’s as she took a shaky breath. “I’m probably always going to love you. But... I’m trying to let you go. Just... be patient with me, okay? I don’t want to lose you. If I can’t be with you like that, I want to be your friend. It’s just going to take me some time to be okay with... everything.”

Spencer broke a chunk off her own pastry and washed it down with a gulp of cooling drink. The cinnamon, frosting and coffee blended into a mix of flavors that should be forbidden by law, it was that good. “I think what you’re doing is incredibly noble.” She grinned over at her sister. “You’re so much more compassionate than any of my other relatives. I should follow your example. There really aren’t any excuses not to be more involved in charity.” Tapping her fingers against her cup as she thought, Spencer then offered, “Veronica has been meaning to throw a fundraiser event as part of her thanking the people for their vote. I’m sure I could get her to choose the non-profit as one of the good causes that the money will go to. I’ve got excellent leverage and guilt tripping material now to get my way.”

“Thank you,” Jaycee murmured with a shrug of her shoulders. She wasn’t in it to be noble or for praise, but to make people’s lives better, and to be there for people who were in the situation she once found herself in. “Hey, it’s true, and there are so many charities out there. Whatever cause is close to your heart, and donating your time is just as important as donating money.” She hoped the comment didn’t sound too preachy. She licked the icing off her fingers and continued eating the cinnamon roll with pleasure, glad Spencer had decided to get them. They were still warm and perfectly sweet. Just what she needed. She perked up at the mention of a fundraiser. “Yeah? That would be excellent. I can put something together for her to look at. A proposal, showing where the funds would be used.”

“Washington is a pretty cool place even if you don’t want to visit all the museums and see all the sights.” Then again, Spencer had been a fan of those things herself, but she couldn’t blame others for not caring as much—or at all. She probably wouldn’t get Hanna to go anywhere with her if she tried. “I’m thinking about making a trip there sometime over the summer, so we can coordinate our agendas closer to date.” Dark and intense. Now there are adjectives that would fit her too. She’d been told a few times that she was kind of scary. Taking kickboxing classes would probably only make that worse, but she didn’t really care about how strangers saw her anymore. The people that knew her, actually knew her. And knew she wasn’t scary… all the time. “Saturday afternoon? Sounds good. Do you want to drive there together? Or maybe if the weather’s nice we could bring out the bikes. With the new job, I’ve barely had time to work out at all, except jogging a few times… but still not as much as I would like.” She stretched her arms above her head and grinned sheepishly. “But at least our genes are pretty great. I think I’ll always be this lean and wiry.”

“I mean, I’d like to. But I think a city is more than just its tourist destinations.” Jaycee countered with a pleasant smile, trying to imagine the two of them going to history museums and checking out the monuments, taking ridiculous selfies with statues and doing things that sisters were meant to do together. At the mention of summer, she nodded agreeably. “That sounds nice. I’ve been thinking of making a beach trip sometime this summer too, if you’re interested. I’ve got a timeshare down in South Carolina.” She offered, the corners of her lips upturned at more mental images of herself and Spencer having the time of their lives on the beach. Jaycee stayed silent as her sister considered the class on Saturday, and when she affirmed that it sounded good, she relaxed considerably. “The bikes would be great. I thought last I heard it was supposed to rain, but maybe we’ll get lucky.” Her eyes followed Spencer’s arms into the air, taking in their usual toned structure. She was right, they’d hit the lottery as far as their genes were concerned. Even if Jaycee didn’t work out, she’d have a pretty good body, and that was something she was thankful for. “Don’t know about always. Our excellent metabolisms might catch up with us sooner or later.”

Aria smiled sweetly at Jaycee, eyes following her as she sat down next to her. The quickened flutter that came to her heart was hard to ignore, but Aria tried her best. The brunette turned her body so she was facing the other woman a little better. Of all the people she could have bumped into here, she was glad that it was Jaycee – especially since it didn’t seem like Erin would be back in Rosewood anytime soon. She couldn’t help but wince a little when Jaycee announced that she’d be having a soda instead of something with alcohol in it. “Ah, damn it. Sorry. I, um – I forgot about that. Yikes,” she chuckled nervously, “Um, make that two cokes. You can put a little rum in mine.”

“Hey,” Jaycee spoke gently, putting her hand on Aria’s knee without much thought. “It’s okay. I don’t even miss it anymore.” She assured her, giving her knee a quick squeeze before tugging her hand away with a flush in her cheeks. When her coke was put in front of her she quickly unwrapped a straw and took a drink to wet her nervously dry mouth. Being in Aria’s presence again was overwhelming, but the good kind. “I am so glad I ran into you,” she confessed. “It’s been kind of a rough day, and I could use a friendly face.”

“But we can talk about it, don’t worry.” Emily added with a smile when she saw how Jaycee’s face dropped, as if she felt she didn’t have to ask about such a difficult topic, and it was alright. Maybe Em really needed to talk after all. “It doesn’t seem so. I know she’s… stubborn and she never says if she’s suffering or not which makes things more complicated but, I know that. And I love her too, Jay.” Emily smiled and looked down for a second, thinking about what happened between the two of them not too long ago. “I always did. Things just got complicated between us. And I’m not sure about giving up just yet…”

“Oh, okay. Well, if it gets weird just say so.” Jaycee assured her with a hesitant smile. She didn’t want to cross any lines and she knew this was a touchy subject, though she didn’t know the whole truth of the situation. “I know you love her. You always have. You’re the best of them, Emily. You’ve got the biggest heart, and Alison’s always seen that. I know she’s taken advantage of that sometimes, too. But I really do believe she loves you, even if she doesn’t know how to tell you that.” She sighed, nodding gently before pushing herself up out of the jacuzzi, her skin red from the hot water. “She just needs time, and to know you’re always on her side.”
