lucagottesman:
There was something incredibly satisfying about the way they all managed find success after High School, despite the horrors they were subjected to back then. Some of them, including Spencer herself, had even more trouble handed to them than Luca did. There was a sense of pride, knowing that they were able to accomplish so much, when there was someone trying to destroy them at any possible instance. That was something Luca never would have said circa tenth grade. She resented Spencer and her friends for all of the wrong reasons, but thankfully, they’ve been able to make their peace and move on. Regardless of whether she was correct or not, Luca considered them her own friends now…most of them, at least. “Fair enough,” she replied, understanding completely why Spencer of all people still wouldn’t feel completely safe in Rosewood, “I just…have to keep telling myself it’s safe here again, or else…I’ll be booking the next flight out of here, and I kind of don’t want to leave yet, surprisingly.” A sad little smile came to her face when Spencer revealed that he bailed on plans last minute. “Well, his loss is my gain,” Luca said with a simple little shrug, “I’m glad to help.” While Spencer’s eyes wandered around the Radley, Luca’s eyes lingered on her for a moment or two before looking away. “I think Ashley’s a saint for doing something with this place. Yeah, it just feels different here,” she agreed. Luca didn’t have any experience from actually staying here, but she’d visited more than a few people during their own stays back during Radley’s sanitarium days. The genuine smile on her face returned when she heard Spencer’s suggestion. “Jeez…You realize they would have to turn the High School into a liquor store?” Luca teased, laughing before she took another drink.
"That is pretty surprising. But I know what you mean. I only planned to stick around a little while, yet now here we are.” Her drink was a syrrupy, amber-colored swirl in her glass, which she held in loose, slender fingers. Her eyes moved up, taking in the lined bottles behind the bar, crawling up the wall, then moving back to Luca. Spencer might have gotten used to the Radley being a bar, but if she zoned out, it still brought her right back to her days as a mental patient. “It does feel a little different. Not the basement, though. Although I’m not supposed to have been there, but old habits die hard.” Her lips quirked higher, a tad sad, as she thought about all the things she now did as a result of having lived under A-induced torment for years. "See, that wouldn’t be the worst idea. So much has happened at that school, might as well re-purpose it and start anew in another place. All the new students just try to ask the teachers about the things that have happened with Alison, the plenty murders happening over town, all the batshit crazy that really shouldn’t be happening in such a small all-American place.” She brought her glass to her lips and drank from it deeply. “And the way we seem to be going at it with the alcohol, I think we deserve more places to get what we need.” That sure had gotten deep. She shook her head as if that could erase where her thoughts had led her and turned to face Luca more directly. “What’ve you been up to since you’ve been here? Not just all work and no play, have you?"
jayceedilaurentis:
“I mean, I’d like to. But I think a city is more than just its tourist destinations.” Jaycee countered with a pleasant smile, trying to imagine the two of them going to history museums and checking out the monuments, taking ridiculous selfies with statues and doing things that sisters were meant to do together. At the mention of summer, she nodded agreeably. “That sounds nice. I’ve been thinking of making a beach trip sometime this summer too, if you’re interested. I’ve got a timeshare down in South Carolina.” She offered, the corners of her lips upturned at more mental images of herself and Spencer having the time of their lives on the beach. Jaycee stayed silent as her sister considered the class on Saturday, and when she affirmed that it sounded good, she relaxed considerably. “The bikes would be great. I thought last I heard it was supposed to rain, but maybe we’ll get lucky.” Her eyes followed Spencer’s arms into the air, taking in their usual toned structure. She was right, they’d hit the lottery as far as their genes were concerned. Even if Jaycee didn’t work out, she’d have a pretty good body, and that was something she was thankful for. “Don’t know about always. Our excellent metabolisms might catch up with us sooner or later.”
"A timeshare? How very grown-up of you.” Spencer couldn’t deny the idea of going to the beach with her sister was an appealing idea; personally, she had never been overly fond of beach vacations in and of themselves, but with good company... Well, what was there to say no for? “But that would be great. By the looks of it, we’re going to have a pretty good summer.” After A and AD finally being over and this taxing new job, she could use the time to recharge her mental batteries. “You know, it might, so I’ll enjoy my body for as long as it stays this way. But between being on my feet all day and constantly walking around getting this or that, I think I still get some exercise in. Maybe it’ll be enough to keep me on this size for a few more years.” Aside from suddenly having a maternal wish, she can’t imagine herself gaining much weight; then again, all the unhealthy food might start to pile up and tip the scales. But she’d deal with that if she ever came to it. “You should probably go shower soon, now you’re really starting to smell.” She said it with a cheeky, wide grin and a tilt of her head though. “And you keep attracting looks from pretty girls that don’t dare come up to you because you’re with me. As your sister I’m supposed to wing woman you, not repel your options.”
jayceedilaurentis:
“Thank you,” Jaycee murmured with a shrug of her shoulders. She wasn’t in it to be noble or for praise, but to make people’s lives better, and to be there for people who were in the situation she once found herself in. “Hey, it’s true, and there are so many charities out there. Whatever cause is close to your heart, and donating your time is just as important as donating money.” She hoped the comment didn’t sound too preachy. She licked the icing off her fingers and continued eating the cinnamon roll with pleasure, glad Spencer had decided to get them. They were still warm and perfectly sweet. Just what she needed. She perked up at the mention of a fundraiser. “Yeah? That would be excellent. I can put something together for her to look at. A proposal, showing where the funds would be used.”
"Mayor’s Office is organizing a blood drive, so that’s something I’m both helping set up and donating blood, but other than that... I don’t really know what’s close to my heart. Or rather, what’s closest. I care about a lot of things, obviously, but where to start...” With ambitions in politics, stemming from seeing a world that could use some definite fixing and people that were getting shafted over arbitrary reasons, Spencer cared deeply about a lot of things. Starting to prioritize would be a good first step to one day drafting policies and preparing election speeches for herself. “That would be wonderful. You can leave all the pitching and explaining to me. Positive over negative bias.” She wiped her fingertips on a napkin after she had finished her pastry, then settled back and crossed her legs, the closest thing Spencer Hastings would ever get to slouching. “We should do this more often. It’s been nice catching up with you.”
“i hate small towns. it’s like– raise your hand if you’re not my ex.”

jayceedilaurentis:
“That’d be cool. You could show me all the awesome non-touristy stuff.” Jaycee commented with a smile. As interesting as monuments and the like were, she wasn’t really into just sightseeing all the things everyone else came to see. Spencer could offer a different perspective since she’d lived there. She tuned back into the conversation when Spencer commented her words about Melissa hadn’t exactly been fair. “Well, she isn’t the easiest person to get along with. I get that. She’s always been pretty… well. Dark and intense, to say the least. But you should. Call her sometime I mean.” She didn’t mean to be pushy about it by any means, but family was important. At this point in her life, it felt like all she had. Melissa didn’t seem interested in having any relationship with her, but she’d grown up with Spencer, so surely she wouldn’t brush her off. “Well obviously not.” Jaycee nudged her and chuckled. “Yeah, I hear you. I work long hours throughout the week and the weekend’s my only respite. There’s a class Saturday afternoon we can go to.” She left the comment about Veronica out of it, knowing better than to touch an exposed nerve.
"Washington is a pretty cool place even if you don’t want to visit all the museums and see all the sights.” Then again, Spencer had been a fan of those things herself, but she couldn’t blame others for not caring as much---or at all. She probably wouldn’t get Hanna to go anywhere with her if she tried. “I’m thinking about making a trip there sometime over the summer, so we can coordinate our agendas closer to date.” Dark and intense. Now there are adjectives that would fit her too. She’d been told a few times that she was kind of scary. Taking kickboxing classes would probably only make that worse, but she didn’t really care about how strangers saw her anymore. The people that knew her, actually knew her. And knew she wasn’t scary... all the time. “Saturday afternoon? Sounds good. Do you want to drive there together? Or maybe if the weather’s nice we could bring out the bikes. With the new job, I’ve barely had time to work out at all, except jogging a few times... but still not as much as I would like.” She stretched her arms above her head and grinned sheepishly. “But at least our genes are pretty great. I think I’ll always be this lean and wiry.”
missmonav:
“If only.” She mumbled wistfully before staying quiet. As Spencer admitted she kept expecting for things to go wrong, Mona nodded. It was hard to believe there wouldn’t just be someone willing to pick up where the last one left off. It was hard to really believe the game was over. She used to get some kind of sick thrill from figuring it all out. It reminded her a little of what it had been like to be A. Though she hadn’t been in her right mind then, she had been addicted to the feeling she got from it. It was likely something she would always miss, being able to have power over someone else. She felt bizarrely powerless these days and it wasn’t a feeling she liked. Mona perked back up when Spencer mentioned the blood drive. “Oh, definitely.” She answered quickly, smiling at the addition of Hanna. “And that’s a nice bonus.”
"I will add you to the mailing list then.” Spencer made a note of that in her agenda, then checked everything filled in for the day. After checking her watch for the time, she realized she was cutting it close leaving for an appointment she had on the other side of time. “I should get going, actually,” she said, smiling up at Mona briefly before starting to put everything securely away in her bag, then hoisting the strap over her head as she got to her feet. Strange, how quick time had gone by, and how she didn’t want to actually leave at all. She sure had come a long way from despising one Mona Vanderwaal. “But it’s a small town, so I’m sure I’ll bump into you again soon. And you’ve got my number--” she smiled wistfully, remembering she had never voluntarily given her phone number, but that was neither here nor there now. “So---don’t be a stranger.”
alison-dilaurcntis:
“Yeah, but it’s not good enough.” Alison said, scribbling another comment and edit onto another student’s paper. “Yes, I know. Thank you, Spence. I just, everything is happening so fast with…you know…the…I just, all of it and then finding out we’re family all of a sudden, it’s just, I don’t know.” The young woman said, her voice slow and sad, trying to focus all of her feelings of anger, frustration, anxiety and lingering fear of what was to come.
"I get it, Ali. But you’re strong. We’ve gotten through way worse in one piece somehow. Just... don’t forget to breathe.” Spencer settled her hand on Alison’s arm in what she hoped was a comforting gesture. She was known to completely miss the mark on what she intended. “Have you and Emily talked about what you’re going to do yet? Maybe making that decision will take some of your stress away."
jayceedilaurentis:
“A TV show you couldn’t pay me to watch,” she grumbled mirthfully, allowing the silence to settle between them before the other woman suggested a sweet treat for them both. “I love cinnamon rolls.” Jaycee declared with a grin, her icy gaze following Spencer as she rose from her seat and moved toward the counter to get them each a fresh cinnamon roll. They were still warm, she found as she picked one up from the plate. Her mouth full, she swallowed before answering the question. “Oh- yeah. We just got a huge donation… and I think we’re really starting to make a difference. It’s rewarding to put some good back in the world, you know?” The nonprofit was intended to help addicts like Jaycee and their families. She’d already seen it make a difference in people’s lives and it gave her an unbelievable sense of pride.
Spencer broke a chunk off her own pastry and washed it down with a gulp of cooling drink. The cinnamon, frosting and coffee blended into a mix of flavors that should be forbidden by law, it was that good. “I think what you’re doing is incredibly noble.” She grinned over at her sister. “You’re so much more compassionate than any of my other relatives. I should follow your example. There really aren’t any excuses not to be more involved in charity.” Tapping her fingers against her cup as she thought, Spencer then offered, “Veronica has been meaning to throw a fundraiser event as part of her thanking the people for their vote. I’m sure I could get her to choose the non-profit as one of the good causes that the money will go to. I’ve got excellent leverage and guilt tripping material now to get my way.”
ariiamcntgcmcry:
Seeing Spencer walking into the hotel brought relief to the brunette, and she had already been feeling pretty good to begin with. She had yet to see Hanna, Emily or Alison, but she was hoping she’d bump into them eventually. For now, she’d catch up with her best friend. “It feels good to smile again, actually,” Aria shrugged, looking down at the glass in her hands. Looking back up at Spencer, she moved a strand of hair behind her ear. “Actually, I just checked in a while ago, and…I was just kind of taking a break. I wasn’t expecting to see anyone, but I really am glad you’re here.” Aria paused long enough to lean over and place her hand on top of Spencer’s for a moment. After taking another sip from her drink, the brunette sighed, “I know, I know. I get busy and then I just…don’t talk to anyone,” Aria chuckled nervously. Plus, it didn’t help that she was trying to avoid talking about Erin and Nicole at the moment. Once she met Spencer’s gaze, Aria smiled softly and tilted her head. “I’m okay. I-I was avoiding coming home for so long, I kind of think it’s what I needed, you know? New York’s great, but it got lonely.”
Smiling at her friend’s admission, Spencer replied with a soft but genuine, “I’m glad you’re here, too.” Of all her friends, Aria was probably the one most similar to her. They had a love for literature in common and everyone know Team Sparia was the best one out there. Turning her hand palm-up, she squeezed Aria’s hand briefly before letting it go. "I totally understand that. Washington was great too, but Rosewood... well, for better or for worse, it’s our home.” Oh how often she had wished it wasn’t so, that she could just break with this town that had brought them so much hardship and trauma. But it had also brought her best friends for life, and her family was still here. Rosewood would always have people to return for. “You gotta promise me not to keep us out, okay? I know you’re... dealing with a lot, but we’re your best friends, and we’re here for you for whatever you need. To get blackout wasted with if that’s what you want. You shouldn’t be alone, not in this town especially.” She took a sip of the dry red wine and savored the flavor before swallowing and licking her lips. “How’s the family? It’s been a while since I’ve run into any of them.”
swimfields:
“Oh, don’t look at me like that. I know I’m your favorite person to hug, you love me too much,” Emily joked and then laughed when Spencer indeed put her arm around her waist, pulling her closer. “We were too messed up. We needed to get away for a few years until we were ready to come back and be ourselves again. And I’m glad that we’re still the same people and remained friends, that’s all that matters.” Emily smiled at her and started walking towards The Grille, happy her friend decided to come to the pool to keep her company.
When they entered the place she couldn’t help but feel overflowed by the memories the four of them shared years ago, good ones. “I’m going to order the same if they still offer the same menu, which I hope they do. Or else I’m going to be pissed.” Emily found a place for them to sit down and relax for a bit.
“A pissed Emily Fields, now there’s a terrifying thought.” Spencer chuckled as she sat down with Emily, a small table between them. The big table in the center of the dining space had been where they would sit when it had been all four of them---she was sure the initials they’d carved into the surface were likely still there. Their waitress for the evening came by just moments later to hand them menu cards.
“Looks like it hasn’t changed much. They scrapped the fish tacos, but those weren’t very great anyway.” With the amount of times they’d been there, Spencer had just about tried every single item on the menu, but nothing beat cheese fries. “I’m getting my fries... and for old time’s sake, maybe the pink lemonade with mint. Even though we’re of drinking age now.”
erinfitzz:
“You’d think my writer’s block would disappear after the last week and a half, but no, of course not. In other news, does anyone have any coffee combination ideas? I’ve got a few ideas but more would be wonderful, especially as we head into the summer at the Brew.”
"Flavored coffee is a blasphemy. One of my friends got me one of those... pumpkin spiced lattes once? Terrible. Atrocious. Crime against coffee-brewing.” Spencer huffed, tucked her hair behind her ear, then smiled up at her former English teacher. “Sorry to hear about the writer’s block. Going for a jog always cleared my head when I got stuck writing essays, maybe you should try that sometime.”
hxnnamarin:
“I’m sorry, you just said what? Am I that drunk already or did you really just say that I was right about something for once?”
“You being right is known to happen... sometimes.” Spencer smiled, then chuckled. “So how about the business? Everything going well?”
Her eyes are classic novels and poetry.

MONA: you're right.
MONA: and i feel like i can't use the what-if-this-changes-everything excuse anymore. i just need to bite the bullet.
MONA: thanks, spencer.
SPENCER: i usually am. ;)
SPENCER: you're welcome, mona.
( text / spencer & mona )
MONA: true.
MONA: i was thinking about our conversation. i thought i might tell her how i feel. just to finally get it out there. i don't really expect it to change anything.
MONA: do you think it's a bad idea?
SPENCER: "twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do." - mark twain
SPENCER: by which i'm trying to say, i think you definitely should tell her. not for her or what it might do, but for yourself.
SPENCER: when have secrets ever done us any good?
