After a long talk with Okuyasu, Josuke was ready, so so ready to confess his feelings towards you. He knows that for literally everyone else is so obvious that you guys are something, but to you seem to be a little confused still, at least that's what he thinks.
You two spend basically all the time together, if it's not on Josuke's house, you're walking around Morioh, eating out and going to the arcade, you hold hands some times and you cuddle. You cuddle a lot. Josuke knows that you find comfort in being between his arms, and that makes him feel like the luckiest boy ever.
So he's terrified of losing that with you, scare you off and stop being friends forever. But he's been dying to call you his girlfriend.
This evening, you're not really doing nothing at all. His mom isn't at home so you and Josuke are just relaxing in his room, his hand on your waist and your head on his chest. You tilt your head, studying his face up close, he's always blushed when he's with you.
You get u suddenly, bracketing his hips and sitting right on his lap. Josuke, who was falling asleep, blink fast as he sees you.
"Josuke," you say quietly, your hands slide a little higher on his chest. "Do you want to kiss?"
Josuke's eyes widen just a fraction and his grip on your waist tightens for a second. He swallows, looking caught between surprised and anxious. For a moment he doesn't answer, he stares at you helplessly.
"You… you said you don't really like kissing,” he reminds you. His fingers flex against your hips, trying to stay grounded. "Back when we first started hanging out a lot. I remember. I don't want to make you uncomfortable or push you into anything you are not sure about."
You nod slowly, thinking back to that early conversation. It's true. Kissing had seemed strange to you then, too wet and close and pointless when hugging felt so much better. But things have changed these past weeks. Being around him, feeling how safe and warm he makes everything, has shifted something inside you. You shift a little in his lap, settling more comfortably against him, and watch the way his breath catches again.
"I know what I said," you whisper, keeping your voice soft. Your fingers trace a small circle on his shirt, right over his heart. "But I think you really want to kiss me. I can see it when you look at me like this. And… maybe I want to try it with you. Because I like you, Josuke."
Josuke gasps, he was the one who should confess first! He's been planning the perfect way to do it and you were faster than him. You did it so naturally and cute, he's even kind of jealous. His hands slide up your back, pulling you just a tiny bit closer until your faces are only a few inches apart.
"Yeah," he admits finally. "I like you too, and I do want to kiss you. But only if you're sure. I'm not in any rush. Being like this with you is already more than I thought I would get."
You smile at that, glowing a little brighter. The way he always puts you first makes your chest feel full and fluttery. You lean in closer, your forehead practically touching his. "I'm sure. I trust you. And I like how close we are right now. It feels different when it is you."
Josuke's eyes soften even more, one of his hands cups your cheek, thumb brushing over it. He stays there of a second, holding the moment, you can hear his heart beating fast under your palm. He doesn't move to kiss you right away, instead he lets you set the pace, even though you can tell how much he wants it.
You lean in first, closing the small distance. Your lips meet his in a careful press, testing the waters. But then Josuke makes this little sound in the back of his throat and kisses you back, and everything clicks into place.
It's so damn good.
His mouth moves against yours with a sweetness that surprises you both. Not wet or weird like you once imagined, but real and perfectly in sync. He tastes a little like the soda from earlier and his lips are softer than they look. You feel one of his hands slide up your back, pulling you closer while the other stays on your cheek, thumb stroking gently. You melt into it, glowing bright pink all over, the light spilling across his face and making his eyes look even bluer when he pulls back for a quick breath.
"Wow," he whispers. His voice is a little rough, cheeks flushed deep red. "That was… yeah."
"It was really good," you admit quietly, fingers curling into his shirt. "Better than I thought it would be. Can we do it again?"
Josuke laughs softly and nods right away. "Hell yeah we can."
This time he leans in first, kissing you deeper but still so gentle. His arms wrap fully around your waist, holding you steady as you press closer against his chest. The kiss stretches out, he has been dreaming about this moment and wants to remember every second. You tilt your head a little, following his lead, and it just feels right. Your bodies already know how to fit together after all those cuddles and hugs.
When you finally pull apart, both of you are breathing a little heavier. You stay in his lap, cheek pressed to his shoulder now, arms looped around his neck. Josuke holds you tight, one hand rubbing slow circles on your lower back the way you like best. He does not say much at first, just nuzzles into your hair and breathes you in.
"You sure you didn't like kissing before"” he asks after a while, voice playful but still soft. "Because that felt pretty amazing to me."
You laugh quietly and nuzzle close "I did not like the idea of it. But with you it is different. It feels warm and really nice." You pause, tracing a finger along his collar. "Your heart is beating so fast right now."
"Yeah, no kidding." He chuckles, a little embarrassed, but he doesn't let go. He pulls you even closer, shifting so you are both more comfortable on the bed. "I've been wanting to do that for a while, but I didn't want to mess things up. You mean a lot to me, you know?"
You lift your head to look at him, smiling softly. He looks so cute like this, you lean in and kiss him again, quick and light this time, just because you can. It still feels good.
Josuke sighs happily against your lips and rests his forehead on yours once more. "We can take this as slow as you want. I'm just happy you are here with me."
"Okay. But we're partners now," you say, without looking at him.
"Huh?!" Josuke gasps, taking you by the arms so you are looking right to his face, he's blinking fast already. "I didn't ask you yet!"
You tilt your head to the side. "But it's obvious that we are partners. We spend all the time together, we hug and we kiss. Josuke, we even hold hands."
He couldn't find any smart thing to say, so he shrugged his shoulder and pushed your back so you kiss again, this time slower, taking time to know each other's mouths now that you're partners.
His arms stay wrapped around you, while the two of you talk in low voices about nothing important. The kisses come easier after that, little ones mixed in between words, each one making your glow brighter and his smile wider.
a/n: the next part is going to be about reader's stand and i am in need of ideas
Josuke absolutely has beef with, like, everyone you’ve ever mentioned did you wrong. Whether that be a toxic family member (he will stare them down at every reunion) or a rude coworker. Even if a stranger is slightly snippy or rude he’ll react faster than you, acting a body guard. This trait of his worsens after Kira is defeated. Who knows whom/what could hurt you? In a world where literally anything or anyone could be a stand, he doesn’t think he’s being crazy for being suspicious. He knows you’re strong, you can fight your own battles, but he will always be standing behind you, always ready to defend you (even if you tell him not to.)
May I be so bold and send in a second request?👉👈 If not please ignore, I really don’t want to be a burden
What are your thoughts on yandere Josuke? Would he try to hide his tendencies and pretend to be a normal bf, or just be straight forward with his feelings? Would he try to marry his darling asap or wait like most ppl do and consider normal? Would he be a creepy and unnerving yandere or more on a subtle side? Would he use his status as a cop and his connections to manipulate his darling? Omg there are sooo many aspects to it!!
There’s barely yandere content out there, let alone about Josuke. I’d really love to hear your thoughts on it, absolutely love your writing style and how distinctly you write for every character

.𖢻 ݁ ˖ Yandere P4! Cop Josuke Higashikata .𖢻 ݁ ˖
ദ്ദി •⩊• ) Mmmmm more yandere….. extremely yummy ajshskekdjdi
Tbh even if I don’t think he would realistically be one in canon, I can see how his trauma would make him into one. There’s a lot of mention of it oop
Hope you enjoyyyy x
Notes: delusion, yandere themes, Josuke is traumatized, around P6 in terms of timeframe.
𖢻 Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, he landed a pretty solid position in the police force after schooling, and receiving a small financial gift from his father as congratulations. It’s largely in his savings. He wasn’t totally sure what to do with it, until he met you.
𖢻 He’s so, so nice. And you’re too fucking adorable for your own good.
𖢻 You need directions, and he’s all smiles, polite conversation. Were you visiting? Oh, you just moved here? How lovely. Morioh is quite safe, very quiet. There’s plenty of good restaurants and shops.
𖢻 Maybe, he cheekily suggests, he could point you to one. It is close to his lunch break.
𖢻 Though, good naturedly, even if you accepted, he declines his own invite and insists he must get back to work. That cute disappointed look… he hates how much he loves it.
𖢻 Would definitely prefer to become your friend or partner first— he doesn’t want to just snatch you up, and I don’t think he would be so impulsive as to do it; or rather, he is impulsive, but to take you would be the act of a criminal.
𖢻 He is NOT Yoshikage Kira. He isn’t. He stares at your card you gave him with your email and phone number, trembling in his hand. He’s not Kira.
𖢻 Absolutely uses his connections, but is positively wracked with guilt about it. He prints out a folder of you: your drivers license, employment information, history of moves, your family. But he doesn’t actually read or touch it yet. It’s just there, sitting on his desk at home like a bomb.
𖢻 He really, REALLY wants to be good to you. He is… good, isn’t he?
𖢻 Josuke asks for a change of station, or does it himself. He positions himself near where you go to work, or your house, and your delighted surprise only fuels his fire. What a coincidence.
𖢻 Your friendship only blooms from there— you liked video games when you were younger? He wasn’t so bad at them, you could drag out the old console. Or howsabout he shows you some spots from his youth? Cafe Maigot is still very good. The beach is such a welcome break. The bookstore— well, he doesn’t only read manga anymore, but he’d still prefer to just watch you as you pore over the volumes stuffing the shelves.
𖢻 He likes to offer rides on his bike— either setting you behind him or on the handlebars, making you laugh and cling to him. You squeak that you’ll fall. He’d give up Crazy Diamond before he let that happen.
𖢻 Speaking of, he uses the Stand to gently disrupt you, but never hurt you. It’s invisible to you, even if you have a Stand— he would only let you on to it once it was too late.
𖢻 Yeesh, did a storm do that to your workplace’s fusebox? Guess you have a day off. Why not spend it with Josuke?
𖢻 A fire hydrant burst and now you need to go home and change? Let him escort you so no one stares except him. The wet fabric clings to your curves, so delicious he wants to take you right there.
𖢻 And he’s the perfect partner.
𖢻 Calculated, obsessive, and teeters on vindictive. Josuke does get jealous, but he doesn’t make it your problem. He knows it’s his. And he takes care of it.
𖢻 Flustered on the first date in such a sweet way, you couldn’t dare to accuse him of having orchestrated your falling for him.
𖢻 And what a lovely restaurant Tonio has— how indulgent of him to take you somewhere so nice on the first date.
“Anything for you, babe! Hey, I know it’s been a long day, do you just want to crash at my place? It’s much closer.”
𖢻 But more and more, it’s just convenient to be at his. Why not move in?
𖢻 Your new place was never that good… Crazy Diamond made sure fixed pipes never lasted, and the heat crapped out the second it went into November.
𖢻 If you lean into him, let him spoil and baby you, he’s an ideal boyfriend that you’d want to show to your parents ASAP; maybe a little over protective, maybe he doesn’t like you leaving too much, but he’s amenable! He put a tracker in your phone, now there’s no problem. (He doesn’t tell you. If you find it, he apologizes, then puts your phone back together in a way that it’s unfindable.)
𖢻 Ideally, he proposes after about nine months. A little quick, sure, but his mom still loved Joseph Joestar after so long, was there ever any hope for normal love in this family?
𖢻 Josuke really doesn’t know what to do, if you just want to be friends or reject him. His heart shatters, but you wouldn’t know it— he smiles, apologizes for making you uncomfortable with a joke. You relax. Of course, Josuke wasn’t like that.
𖢻 He really wants you to be receptive though. And gods, he doesn’t want you hurt.
𖢻 After Kira, years on the force, stories from his grandfather, Josuke feels the danger of the world closing in on him. Closing in on you. Panic settles in. What if someone else got to you?
𖢻 But he’s… good. And he can protect you. He’s done so well so far.
𖢻 If you can’t follow his plan…
You wake up in a familiar bed— it smells so much like someone else though, and it sends a chill through your muscles. As you begin to sit up, you slip— what? Out the corner of your eye, horrified, there’s a silver police handcuff locked to the bed frame. It’s not yours. It’s—
“Good morning, babe!”
Your gaze snaps to the doorframe. “J-Josuke?” You whisper in disbelief, terror sinking in at the warmth of his smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. There’s a tray of something steaming in his hands.
“Y’know, I really do like to be the romantic type. Cute dates, nicknames… but I get if you like it more complicated.” He steps towards you, and when you see the cold glint in his blue eyes, your own widen— the soul of the sweet, goofy man you’d come to know is gone. Maybe it never existed.

Okuyasu:
Okuyasu... our beloved Okuyasu.
He doesn't really recognize he's jealous at first. He just knows he does NOT like the way this student from a few classes over is talking to you.
Once he DOES realize it (thanks to the help of josuke teasing him and/or koichi telling him) he is a liiiiiitle pouty around you.
(if he realized it sooner, while you were still talking to them, he would've gone over and tried to start a fight)
When you finally confront him about it during the walk back to his place after school, he hesitates to tell you he's jealous.
Okuyasu truly believes that he isn't smart and doesn't believe he's the most attractive man out there, he doesn't want to burden you with things that upset him, because why should you? He worships the ground you walk on and believes you're God's greatest gift to him, he doesn't want to muddy you up with his self-referred "ugly feelings"
But, after more pushing, and telling him that he doesn't need to deal with his tougher emotions alone, and that you want to handle them together with him, he finally cracks. And Okuyasu is nothing if not honest. When he's ready to tell you about something that upsets him, it will be direct and point blank.
"...I didn't like the way that guy from 1-B was talking to you." He says, crossing his arms with a slight pout, "He kept leaning down to you, it looked like he wanted to kiss ya..." He grumbled out and avoided looking at you. "It.. made me feel jealous."
"Aw, Oku..." You lean up and give him a kiss on the nose. You're taken aback slightly, you never thought Okuyasu would be the jealous type. But, this explains the sulking and the pouting.
"I know, it's dumb," He says, huffing a little "But I can't help it.. I don't like thinkin' about someone taking what's mine..."
You can't help but laugh a little and he looks embarrassed.
"N-Not that you're like my property or nothin'..! I-I just meant like-"
You cut him off with a quick kiss.
"Thank you for telling me," You say and smile at him, "If it's any consolation, he was asking me where I got my bag charm." You say, jingling it around a little before looking back up at him. He looks a little embarrassed and glances away.
"You are the only person I want to be in a relationship with, Oku," You smile and cup his face in your hands. He hopes nobody else on the planet gets to know how soft your hands are except him.
"I promise you I won't let it happen again, though. If you're nearby I'll make sure to point out you're my boyfriend, okay?"
He seems satisfied with this and nods, smiling as he leans down and kisses you. You return the kiss and smile as you pull away.
"Ready to hit the books?"
Bonus: If you've been dating for over a year, Okuyasu's trust builds in you and he doesn't get jealous easily anymore. However, this doesn't mean you're off the hook completely. If you attend an event together and he sees you talking to someone he doesn't now, he walks over all over you. Arm around your shoulders, and on your waist, kissing you passionately in front of others, he just doesn't want his angel taken away
Rohan:
THE most drama queen to ever drama
A common date for the two of you is to go shopping. Rohan's wardrobe is immaculate, and if you're dating him you wardrobe either has to be on par or better than his. (not that he'd ever admit you dress better than him)
But you don't just go shopping, you're going to the designer stores. You're there often enough that the sales associates recognize you both (Rohan) as big spenders and always gives you crazy good hospitality.
Easy entrance, sparkling water, fitting room without others around, etc.
However, this particular seemed to have a new sales associate who (somehow miraculously got the privelidge of helping you two) couldn't quite tell the difference between being hospitable or being flirty... so while Rohan is browsing on his own and you're trying something on, when you step out to check with Rohan on his opinion, the employee makes the mistake of telling you how the shirt you're trying on "matches your eyes so well" and that it "suits your figure perfectly". Rohan is in fact in listening distance, he did not stray far.
Unfortunately not only does he recognize he's jealous, he goes out of his way to let you know he's jealous. With Rohan though, he's going through stages.
Stage 1: Overconfidence and Condescening the target
This is where Rohan scoffs in the face of whoever/whatever is causing his jealousy.
"Obviously they look good in it, you mongrel," Rohan scoffs and crosses his arms, striding over to you. He purposefully blocks the employees view of you.
"My parter would look good in anything," He continues, "I'm sure they could even make your boring outfit, if you could even call it that, look ten-thousand times better than whatever the hell you're doing right now." (the employee was too stunned to speak)
Does he normally talk down to people like this? Sometimes. This feels like it's... a bit much.
Stage 2: POUTING and silent treatment
You both finish up in the store, make your purchases, and exit swiftly. He hails a cab and does not say a WORD to you on the ride home. It is awkward. Upon arrival to the house, Rohan pays and slams the car door shut BEFORE you can get out. (he does not tip, you do before exiting the car) he does the same thing with the door of the house.
He will make it very known something is wrong. He doesn't say anything to you, and goes up into his office to let off some steam.
Stage 3: Letting time pass
Rohan knows he can be... a bit of a hothead. in polite terms.
He'll hole himself up in his office until he's ready to speak with you. He knows it wasn't your fault deep down, but he's mad at the situation. He does not want to accidentally take it out on you.
After a few hours, you're getting ready for bed. You let him have his space and as you're doing nightly skincare at your vanity, Rohan enters the bedroom.
"...Hi," You greet, glancing over to him before returning to your gaze in the mirror, "Do... you want to talk about earlier?"
"Not particularly," Rohan grumbles, crossing his arms before letting out a sigh, "...But, we probably should."
You pat your cheeks with a sigh, letting the moisturizer settle into your skin before standing up and walking over to him. You move your hands up to rest on his shoulders.
He won't bring up the fact he's insecure, you will have to do some emotional investigation.
"I don't plan on leaving you anytime soon, y'know." You say with a smile "...Or ever, for that matter."
"..Hmph." Rohan hums with a slight smirk, his hands coming down to rest on your waist, "Of course not. Who else would compare to me?"
aaaand he's back.
Bonus: If you've been dating for a few years, eventually the pouting and cooldown time become significantly shorter time periods. The overconfidence and condescention.. i fear that he is just Like That
Josuke:
oh my sweet beautiful gorgeous darling sweetie pie honey bunches baby boy...
Josuke is hanging out with Koichi outside of the school, catching up on the weekend. You're with some friends of yours, catching up on their weekend.
He knows when he's jealous. He hates feeling like it though, because he doesn't want to get angry towards you, even if it's on accident.
He is a loverboyyyy. But, that doesn't mean that watching his classmate talk to you doesn't get his blood boiling.
Why are you laughing at what he said? It probably wasn't even that funny.
"Well I wasn't trying to be funny, I was asking if you've liked the new F-MEGA game," Koichi pouted as realization dawned upon Josuke,
oh, i said that out loud, he thinks. a look of embarrassment crosses his face and he smiles sheepishly
"Sorry, that wasn't in response to you.." Josuke says, rubbing the back of his neck "it was..uh...I got sidetracked.." He glances in your direction, his smile disappearing and brow furrowing when you make a joke this time and his classmate laughs in response.
Koichi follows his line of sight and can't help the slight smirk that grows on his face
"Oooooh, sidetracked by Yuto giving your partner goo-goo eyes?" He taunts
Josuke wants to trust you, he REALLY does. and he does fully 100%! However he does not trust others so much when it comes to you. And Josuke's nothing if not...
"Hey, how would you like to check out the new popup with me sometime?" Yuto asks
...protective.
(you know how he is with his hair? you are almost at the same level. you're just lucky he doesn't start fights on your behalf)
He bolts up from his seat and strides over, seeing red, but trying to play it off like it's a natural conversation. He swings his arm around your shoulders,
"Hey babe!" he says, extra emphasis on the petname, "I'm glad I was able to catch you before break is over. We still on for our date tonight?"
you didn't have a date tonight. well, not 2 minutes ago. but after knowing Josuke for so long, you can tell when he's exuding a certain vibe.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," You smile at him, resting your hand on top of his on your shoulder before turning back to Yuto, "Sorry, maybe another time..."
Yuto is a bit embarrassed, apologizes, and leaves you be. You turn to your lover with a smirk.
"Jealous much?" you tease. Josuke just groans and puts his head down on your shoulder.
Bonus: He really tries to be aware of his popularity. He knows girls fawn after him too, and tries not to make you jealous as a result. He is 100% the best communicator as to how he's feeling and checks in on you to make sure he doesn't accidentally upset you.

You've been adapting to Earth for two weeks, luckily, Josuke convinced Rohan-sensei to let you stay in his spare room with just a few words.
"Hell no, I'm not letting a girl stay in my house," he said, crossing his arms over his chest.
You bit the inside of your cheek, looking at Josuke as he said: "She's an alien."
Rohan snorts, clearly not believing him. "She glows and she can tell you everything about her planet for your mangas."
"She obviously doesn't gl-" Oh but you did, it took you a second to just start glowing a strong, neon-like pink. "You're fucking with me."
"We are not," Josuke shook his head, giving you a soft bump with his elbow.
"I can tell you lots of things about me! And my planet!" You put your best smile for him. "Please, Ro..."
"Rohan Kishibe." He was already grabbing your hand, shaking it and pulling you inside his home. "Do you have a spaceship? How does the government works in your planet? Tell me everything, miss."
Fast forward two weeks later, you were so done with Rohan and his one hundred questions per day, but thanks to that you had a spacious room to sleep.
Now you were sneaking out before Rohan wakes up to escape from his morning questions, you had called Josuke last night to meet for breakfast and now he was waiting just around the corner. You say hi to him with a long hug as usual.
You make Josuke a little bit confused, you aren't dating, obviously, it's too soon. But you had held hands, hugged and even kissed! You spend most of your time together, sometimes with Okuyasu or Koichi (he doesn't really like you because you made fun of his height, but in your defense, people in your planet are way taller at his age), but it's always you and him. Together. Gosh, you even shared a milkshake! That's base three for him.
He knows that you don't fully understand human relationships and he's afraid to play with you, but Josuke is starting to fall in love with you and you are not realizing it. He has settled with hugging and cuddling with you because he knows that it's your absolute favorite thing in the world and having you that close always makes his knees weak.
This time, after eating out, he invited you to his house, when he was sure that his mother wouldn't be around.
"Oh hi, Josuke! Who's your friend?" Miss Higashikata was, in fact, in his house, baking something that caught your attention since the beginning.
You smiled brightly at Miss Higashikata, stepping a little closer to the kitchen doorway while Josuke hovered right behind you like he was ready to bolt. The sweet smell of whatever she had in the oven filled the whole house, like fresh vanilla and cinnamon mixed together in the best way.
"Hiii! That smells really amazing," you said, tilting your head as your cheeks glowed a soft pink without you even meaning to. "What are you baking?"
Miss Higashikata laughed, wiping her hands on her apron, she looked so kind and made you feel instantly at home even though you were still getting used to Earth houses. "Oh, thank you sweetie! They're just some cinnamon rolls. I got a little carried away this morning. Would you like to try one when they're done? And what's your name? Josuke doesn't bring friends home too often."
Josuke froze beside you, his face turning a shade of red that almost matched your glow. He scratched the back of his head. "Uh, yeah, Mom, this is my… friend. She's, um, new around here. We were just gonna hang out upstairs for a bit."
You glanced at him, confused but amused. He was being extra awkward today, his usual cool guy vibe totally gone. His eyes kept darting between you and his mom, he was scared she'd say something embarrassing. It was kind of cute, honestly. You reached out and gave his hand a quick squeeze without thinking, which only made him stiffen more.
"Nice to meet you, Miss Higashikata," you added politely, still smiling. "Your house is so cozy! And Josuke's been showing me all the best Earth stuff. He's really good at that."
His mom raised an eyebrow, clearly picking up on the vibe, but she just chuckled. "Well, it's lovely to meet you too. Josuke, why don't you two stay for a snack? I can make some tea."
"Nah, it's cool, Mom! We already ate breakfast," Josuke cut in fast, his voice a little higher than normal. He gently tugged you toward the stairs, trying so hard to keep things short. "We'll be upstairs if you need anything. C'mon, let's go."
You waved at his mom with your free hand as he pulled you along. "It was nice meeting you! I hope the cinnamon rolls turn out perfect!"
Josuke didn't say much until you reached his room, closing the door behind him with a soft click. He leaned against it for a second, letting out a big breath, his cheeks still flushed. "Sorry about that… She's usually out on errands. I didn't think she'd be home." He looked at you with soft eyes that make you feel weird in the stomach.
"Your mom seems really nice," you said, tugging him toward the bed. "But I'm glad we're alone now, can we hug?"
Josuke huffed a laugh trying to look cool in front of you. "Yeah, sure."
The you had an idea, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Josuke! We should try different positions and rate them like a game!"
Josuke’s face went pink again, but he let you pull him down onto the bed without arguing. "Y-Yeah? Alright, if that's what you wanna do. I'm down."
You started simple, flopping down beside him and curling into his side. Your head rested on his shoulder, one arm draped over his chest. "This one's cozy," you whispered, nuzzling closer. "Like 7 out of 10. It's nice but my arm falls asleep kinda fast."
He nodded, voice soft. "Mmm. You're really warm…" He didn't say much more, just listened while his fingers traced lazy circles on your back. His eyes stayed on your face the whole time
Next you rolled over so your back was against his chest, spooning. Josuke wrapped an arm around your waist carefully. "Oh, no. This one's a 6," you decided, wiggling a little. "It's safe but I can't see your face. I like seeing your face."
Josuke let out a quiet laugh, breath brushing your hair. "Do you, really?" He stayed quiet after that, just enjoying the way you fit against him, heart beating faster every time you shifted or glowed that soft pink.
You tried a few more, laughing when your legs got tangled or when he accidentally squished your hair. Side by side facing each other was sweet but your arm kept going numb. The one where he laid his head in your lap made him blush so hard he could barely talk, mumbling something about how pretty you looked from that angle.
Finally you pushed him gently onto his back and climbed on top, settling fully against him. Your cheek pressed right over his heart, legs tangled with his and his arms came up around your waist. You let out a happy little sigh, melting into the solid warmth of his chest. "This one… this is perfect. 10 out of 10. I can hear your heartbeat and everything."
Josuke's arms tightened just a bit, one hand rubbing slow circles on your lower back. He didn't say anything for a long moment, just held you close and breathed you in. "Yeah," he whispered eventually, voice a little rough. "This one's my favorite too. Stay as long as you want, okay?"
You smiled against his shirt, eyes half-closed, completely unaware of the reason his heart was beating that fast under your cheek.
a/n: my cuties i love writing fro them aaahh. art creds to whom it may concern
🌚 anon
.𖢻 ݁ ˖ Yandere P4!

Josuke asks you out on a slightly different date, apparently, someone close to his family needs him to look after a six year old child for a few hours and he really really wants you to accompany him. It’s the first time you actually hesitate on spending time with Josuke, only for one reason:
“I don’t know, Josuke… I’ve seen kids in the streets and they creep me out,” you tell him on the phone, playing with the cable.
“What? They’re kids! How can they creep you out?” Josuke asks from the other side of the line.
“We don’t really have sentient kids on my planet,” you say, biting your lips. “We have capsules where between the ages of one and six accelerates our growth.”
Josuke stays in silence for a few seconds. “...That’s terrible.”
“It’s very practical, actually.”
Josuke doesn’t give up after that, he starts telling you that it will not be that bad and that the kid is actually pretty cool for a six year old. He really wants to do this with you, something about helping family and wanting to show you more normal Earth stuff. You hesitate for a long time but his little please gets to you, agreeing even though the thought of a tiny human still makes you nervous.
When the day comes you walk over to his house after lunch. The door opens before you even knock and there stands Josuke, looking relieved and a bit shy all at once. He pulls you into one of those hugs you love, quick but tight. “Thanks for coming. Seriously. I owe you one,” he whispers against your hair before letting go.
Inside the living room, a huge man with a white hat and a dark expression stands near the couch, arms crossed. Next to him is a tiny girl with bright teal hair and way too much energy for her size. She is bouncing on her toes, already talking a mile a minute about something involving a bug she found outside.
Josuke clears his throat. “Uh, Jotaro-san, this is my friend. The one I told you about.”
You look up at Jotaro Kujo and feel your glow flicker nervously. He is tall, really tall, and his stare is intense. You give a small wave. “Hello. I’m… visiting from far away. Nice to meet you.”
Jotaro grunts, nodding once. “Just keep an eye on her. She bites when she is bored.”
He glances at you again, eyes narrowing a little because he senses something off but cannot quite place it. You shift on your feet, unsure what to say next. Josuke stands close beside you, his shoulder brushing yours trying to shield you from the awkwardness.
Jolyne tugs on her dad’s coat. “Dad, can we go already? I want to see if Josuke has any cool stuff in his room!”
Jotaro sighs, ruffles her hair roughly and heads for the door. “Call if anything happens. I will be back in four hours.” He gives you one last suspicious look, then leaves without another word. The door clicks shut and the house suddenly feels lighter.
You blink at the empty doorway. “He’s like… the biggest man ever. Is that normal for Earth dads?”
Josuke laughs softly and rubs the back of his neck. “Yeah, that is just how he is. Come on, let’s sit down before she starts exploring everything.”
Jolyne wastes no time. The second her dad is gone she spins toward you, hands on her hips. “You are Josuke’s girlfriend? You look weird. Why do you glow like that? Can you fight? I can punch really hard, watch!” She swings her little fist in the air and makes explosion sounds with her mouth.
You stare at her, completely lost. Kids on your planet never acted like this, they came out of capsules already knowing basic things and speaking in full sentences if needed. This tiny loud creature with messy hair and zero filter confuses you more than any of Rohan’s questions ever did.
“I’m not… I don’t think I am his girlfriend,” you say slowly, glancing at Josuke for help. Your cheeks warm and you start glowing a gentle pink. “And I don’t punch. I just… glow sometimes when I am happy. Or nervous.”
Jolyne laughs like that is the funniest thing she has ever heard. “You are glowing right now! That is so cool! Do it again!”
“Uh… I can’t really control it.”
Jolyne groans, rolling her eyes and head. “Boring!”
Josuke chuckles and drops down on the couch, patting the spot next to him. You sit close, your thigh pressing against his. He is being extra sweet today, his hand finds yours under a pillow and gives it a gentle squeeze, thumb brushing over your knuckles.
“She’s just excited. You are doing great,” he whispers, voice low so only you can hear. His eyes stay on your face like he cannot look away.
You lean into him a little while Jolyne runs off to drag some toys from a box in the corner. “She talks so much. And so fast. Is she always like this?”
He smiles, a cute lopsided one that makes your chest feel fluttery. “She’s harmless. Kinda funny actually.”
Josuke shifts so his arm rests along the back of the couch behind you, not quite hugging but close enough that you can feel his warmth. Every time Jolyne shouts something he glances at you first, checking if you are okay, making sure you are comfortable. It’s sweet in a way that makes you forget how strange the tiny human is.
Jolyne comes back dragging a stuffed animal and climbs onto the couch between you two, demanding a story. You try to explain a calm tale from your planet but she interrupts every few seconds with questions and dramatic sound effects. Josuke just watches you the whole time, listening more to your voice than to the story, his expression gentle and a little lovesick. When Jolyne gets distracted again with crayons he leans over and whispers near your ear, “You’re really good with her, you know.”
“I’m trying,” you whisper back, shrugging your shoulders. “For you.”
He looks at you after your words, eyes shining and cheeks pink. He still doesn’t know what to do when you tell him stuff like that all of a sudden. It makes him nervous, you make him nervous.
But Jolyne comes back that moment, spinning in circles right in front of you. “Can I touch your face?”
You blink hard. “Uh, what?”
“Jolyne, that’s a weird thing to ask!” Josuke tells her, tapping her forehead.
“But she glows!” Jolyne points out. “I’m sure she glows because she likes you, Josuke!”
That makes Josuke snort even if he tries not to, you turn your face towards him, the only thing you want at that moment is lean into him and let him hug you, but that will only make Jolyne more curious about your relationship with him.
“She’s just my friend, a really good one,” Josuke explains calmly but you catch the way his ears turn red.
Jolyne narrows her eyes at you, thinking hard and then, she gasps loudly. “ARE YOU AN ALIEN?”
Your mouth falls open, how could a kid like her realize that with just a few questions. It’s insane for you, this kid is not only annoying but incredibly smart.
“How did you… Josuke, how did she know?” You turn towards him with a scared expression in your face, blinking fast and not believing the mind of Jolyne.
Jolyne’s eyes go super wide and starts bouncing on the couch cushions so hard that the whole thing shakes.
“You ARE an alien! Oh my gosh, this is the best day ever!” She claps her little hands together and leans in so close you can see the sparkles in her teal hair. Josuke looks kinda panicked next to you, but he squeezes your hand tighter under the pillow
Before you can even think of what to say, Jolyne fires off her first question, practically vibrating with excitement. “Do you have lasers in your eyes? Can you shoot stuff?”
You blink fast, your glow turning a surprised yellow for a second. “No, no lasers. I just glow when I feel stuff really strong. Like right now I’m nervous because you figured me out so quick.”
Jolyne giggles and immediately hits you with the next one, tilting her head. “Can you fly? Show me, please please please!”
“I can’t fly,” you say softly, glancing at Josuke who’s trying not to laugh.
Jolyne doesn’t even give you time to breathe before she asks another one, pointing right at your face. “Do you eat normal food or do you drink spaceship juice? I want to see!”
“I eat normal food now. Josuke made me try milkshake and it’s really good.”
She gasps again and climbs halfway into your lap without asking, her stuffed animal squished between you. “Are there more aliens like you? Do they all look pretty like you?”
Your glow goes soft pink at the compliment and you feel your face heat up. “There are more like me on my planet. Here it’s only me. And we all look different.”
Jolyne’s not done though. “Can you read my mind? What am I thinking right now? Tell me tell me!”
You shake your head, laughing quietly for the first time. “I can’t read minds. I wish I could sometimes, especially when Josuke gets all shy.” You peek at him and he turns even redder, mumbling something about how you’re gonna kill him one day.
The tiny girl squeals and bounces again. “Last one, I promise! Do you have a spaceship parked outside? Can we go see it? Josuke can come too so it’s not scary!”
You bite your lip. “No spaceship here right now,” you tell her gently. “But maybe one day I can show you some cool stuff from my planet. If Josuke says it’s okay.”
Josuke nods right away, his voice soft near your ear. “Yeah, we can do that.” His eyes stay on you like you’re the only thing in the room, even with Jolyne chattering away about how she’s gonna be an alien hunter now.
You keep answering every question Jolyne throws at you, even as the afternoon stretches on and her energy shows no sign of slowing down. She has moved from drawing your planet to trying to teach you a silly dance she made up, hopping around the living room and demanding you copy her moves. You try your best, but your steps are clumsy compared to her wild little spins.
Finally, the front door opens with a heavy click just as Jolyne starts another round of questions. Jotaro steps inside, tall and imposing as ever, hat low over his eyes.
“Dad!” Jolyne yells, bolting toward him at full speed and crashing into his legs. “You are back! Guess what? Josuke’s friend is an alien! She glows pink and comes from another planet, she doesn’t even have lasers but she’s still cool!”
You freeze a little on the couch, Josuke tenses beside you too, but he keeps his hand close to yours, reassuring.
Jotaro looks down at his daughter, then over at you and Josuke. His expression doesn’t change much, his flat, tired stare settles on you for a long moment. You offer a small and polite wave, not sure what else to do.
“Sure she is,” Jotaro says, ruffling Jolyne’s hair. “Time to go. Say thank you.”
“But Dad, she really is! She glowed the whole time and told me about sugar clouds! Ask her!” Jolyne bounces on her toes, trying to pull him toward the couch.
Jotaro just sighs. “We’re leaving. Thank Josuke and his friend for watching you.” He nods once in your direction, then turns toward the door with Jolyne still chattering nonstop about aliens and glows and how she wants to visit your spaceship next time.
You watch them go, a little stunned. “He did not believe her at all,” you say quietly once the door shuts. “Is that normal? For parents here to think their kids are making things up?”
Josuke lets out a soft laugh and shifts closer to you now that the house is finally quiet again. The sudden peace feels nice after hours of tiny-human tornado.
“Yeah, pretty much. Jotaro is hard to impress anyway. But you handled her like a pro.” His arm slides around your shoulders, pulling you into his arms. “C’mere. You earned a break.”
You settle against him happily, cheek resting on his chest while his arms wrap around your waist and you can hear his heartbeat picking up a little under your ear. He doesn’t say much more, just holds you close and runs his fingers slowly up and down your back, content to listen if you want to talk about how weird and loud Earth kids are or just sit in the quiet together.
“You were really sweet today,” you whisper, glowing a soft happy pink against his shirt. “Thank you for convincing me to come. Even if she asked about kissing and everything.”
Josuke’s cheeks flush but he only hugs you a little tighter, smiling into your hair. “Anytime. I like doing stuff with you. It didn’t bother me that Jolyne assumed we were dating or whatever.”
He presses his lips together, already regretting telling you that. But lucky him, you were already falling asleep in his chest, so you only answered a soft: “Mhm, me neither.”
josuke higashikata x alien!reader (wc: 4.2k)
SUMMARY: after your spaceship crashes on the highest hill of Morioh, Josuke Higashikata offers himself to show you around and teach you Earth costumes ╱ fluff fluff fluff, teenagers being awkward and cute
The coldest night of August, the sky of Morioh turned a pink so bright no one believed what was happening. Glitter was falling from the sky, leaving the old sidewalks shining with pink and green sparkles. It felt magical, a romantic night that left a mark in Morioh’s history, now almost being a local holiday where everyone goes out to see if that pink shade in the sky comes back. What most people don’t know is that in the farthest hill surrounding the town, a ship crashed there. A spaceship, rather. And a girl emerged from it, though can it be called a girl? A humanoid, let's say. Beautiful and mesmerizing, curls and a curious way of talking. You, an alien.
Josuke Higashikata wasn’t planning on going to the farthest hill on the suburbs of Morioh that night. Who would want that? It was Okuyasu who insisted on going because there was the coolest field of flowers to see. But when they arrived, the field was completely destroyed because of you.
You were wounded, unconscious and bleeding. Both of them couldn’t believe that they were witnessing an alien arrive on Earth. Josuke was the first who went to take you out of your ship, careful to not hurt you, your space suit was scratched and your forehead was bleeding. He quickly healed you with Crazy Diamond and let you rest under a willow until you woke up.
“Huh?” When he heard you speaking, he focused his whole attention to you, leaving Okuyasu mid sentence.
“HELLO.” Josuke was talking far too loud, waving his hand right in front of your face. “I’M JOSUKE HIGASHIKATA. JO-SU-KE. THIS IS MY FRIEND OKUYASU. DO YOU SPEAK JAPANESE? JA-PA-NE-SE, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?”
You were blinking fast, interchanging looks between Josuke who was crouched next to you and Okuyasu who was standing a few meters away with his hands on his waist.
“Why are you screaming?” Your voice was rough and tired after the crash, but your body doesn’t hurt like before.
“OH YOU SPEAK MY LANGUAGE.” His smile was instant, bright and big, his eyes closing with it as he fully sat crossing his legs in front of you. “ME AND MY FRIEND WERE WONDERING WHERE DO YOU COME FROM.” He pointed at Okuyasu, who awkwardly waved at you.
“Please, stop screaming,” you say, rubbing your hands in your face and evening your breath. “Could you tell me where I am, please?”
“Oh! Yes!” Josuke nodded fast, the smile never disappearing. He was oddly excited about this. “You’re on Earth, in Japan to be more exact.”
The confusion in your look became obvious to both of them, Josuke arching his eyebrows waiting for a verbal reaction.
“Earth? What the fuck is that?”
Okuyasu blinked, Josuke’s mouth fell open. “You’re kidding, right?” Okuyasu finally said, scratching the back of his head. You kept staring at them, tired and very, very confused.
“No. Should I know what Earth is?” Your lips formed a tight line, now Josuke and Okuyasu were just staring at each other trying to find the right thing to say.
Okuyasu got closer to Josuke, who was fidgeting with his hands. “Dude,” Okuyasu whispered, leaning towards him, “she’s definitely an alien.”
“I know she’s an alien!” Josuke whispered back. “But like, she doesn’t know Earth?!”
You were watching them argue in hushed voices, your head tilting slightly to the side, then you looked around, finding the strange vegetation and the unfamiliar gravity that felt heavier than what you were used to. “Is this a hostile planet?” you asked carefully, you didn’t know if your weapons were in conditions to fight.
Josuke immediately snapped his attention back to you. “No! No, no, not at all!” He waved his hands quickly. “Earth is mostly normal… “he glanced at Okuyasu. “Normal enough.” He sighted a little, shoulders falling relaxed.
That didn’t sound very reassuring. You slowly tried to stand up, wobbling slightly as your legs adjusted, Josuke instinctively reached out to steady you with his hand hovering near your elbow.
“Woah, you okay?” He looked you in the eyes, he had pretty eyes and a pretty face overall, you liked his eyebrows mostly and his hairstyle looked like nothing you’ve ever seen.
“Gravity is stronger than I expected,” you said, clearing your voice and testing your balance at the same time.
“Whoa, really?” Okuyasu leaned forward, fascinated. “Where are you from then?”
You paused. “Far.”
Josuke grinned. “Yeah, I figured that out.”
You glanced back at the broken spaceship, your expression briefly softening. It was damaged badly, metal bent with lights flickering weakly. Your shoulders dropped just a little. “I don’t think I can repair it anytime soon.”
Josuke noticed how your expression changed, not only your shoulders but your… glow? He hadn’t noticed the pink halo around your body, making you glow in a pinkish shade, now it was a deep purple, almost blue looking.
“I was meant to go to a planet much farther away,” you explained, meeting his eyes.
Josuke was captivated by you at that moment, not only for your color changing glow or because you were beautiful, he has never felt the need of showing someone his boring town until now. He smiled at you, tilting his head as he said: “You can stay here while we figure out how to fix it!”
It took you a moment to understand what he was saying and why, a complete stranger, was willing to help you. On your planet people were way more reserved and not as… altruist? Was that the word? You were just perplexed about Josuke Higashikata and his way of talking to you.
“If I am welcomed here,” you start, nodding slowly. Josuke’s smile was very warm. “I would appreciate the help.”
“Yes! Yes, of course! My friend here has to leave now, but I can show you around!”
“What?” Okuyasu said. “I don’t have to le–”
“Yes, you have to do that thing, did you forget?”
Okuyasu opened his mouth to argue but Josuke gave him a look so pointed it could have popped a tire.
“Right! The... thing! With the stuff!” Okuyasu yelled, suddenly catching on (or just being overwhelmed by Josuke’s intensity). He gave you a clumsy thumbs-up. “Good luck with the gravity, space girl! See ya, Josuke!”
He sprinted off down the hill, leaving a trail of dust and confusion behind him. You watched him go, your head tilting so far to the side it nearly touched your shoulder. “Is this species always that loud?”
“That’s just Okuyasu,” Josuke chuckled, sticking his hands in his pockets and rocking back on his heels. “Let's get you off this hill. Standing in a crater isn't exactly the 'Welcome to Earth' vibe I was going for.”
As you walked, the strong gravity continued to be a nuisance. Every step felt like you were wearing boots made of lead. Josuke stayed close, occasionally reaching out to steady you when you stumbled over a stray root or a particularly stubborn pebble.
“So…” Josuke started, looking at you curiously. “I gotta ask. How old are you?”
You paused, trying to do the mental math of orbital rotations and light-cycles. “How do you measure age here?”
“In... in years,” Josuke answered, blinking. “Like, how many times the Earth goes around the sun.”
“Oh! Great. Then I'm seventeen,” you answered confidently.
Josuke’s eyebrows shot up. “No way! Me too! Well, almost eighteen. We’re basically the same age. That makes this way less weird. I mean, it’s still weird that you’re from space, but at least I’m not babysitting a five-hundred-year-old star-entity or something.”
He heard you huff a laugh for the first time at that moment, your blue-ish glow getting fainter.
The walk down the hill was slower than Josuke expected. You kept stopping every few meters, crouching to poke at a dandelion or stare at an ant carrying a crumb three times its size. The glow around you had softened back to a gentle shimmer, shifting colors whenever you tilted your head in curiosity.
“Everything here is so small,” you muttered, gently touching the petals of a wildflower. “And soft. In my homeworld the flora has teeth.”
Josuke laughed, a bright sound that made your antennae (hidden under your curls for now) twitch. “Yeah, well, don’t bite any of these. Some of them are poisonous. Or just taste like dirt.”
You straightened up, brushing pink glitter that still clung to your suit off your sleeves. The glitter from the crash was still falling faintly in the distance, catching the last of the strange pink sky.
By the time you reached the edge of town, the streets of Morioh were quiet but not empty. A few people were still outside, pointing at the sky and whispering about the romantic aurora that had appeared out of nowhere. No one noticed the faint glow following Josuke or the way your boots left tiny sparkling footprints.
Josuke kept glancing at you like he was afraid you’d suddenly float away, he pointed at random buildings as you walked.
“That’s the bakery, it has the best melon-pan in town, now it’s closed but we can go tomorrow morning. That’s the arcade, Koichi and I go there sometimes! It’s fun, we could… uh, go sometime!” Josuke grimaced to himself, hearing how much that sounded like a date, but looking at you, completely unbothered and gasping when a motorbike passed close to you, he relaxed his shoulders again.
At that moment, your stomach gurgled, startling you and making Josuke’s eyes widen. “You’re hungry! Of course you’re hungry, you just crashed a spaceship. Come on, there’s a café nearby that stays open late. They have great shakes!”
He didn’t even realize he took your hand, looping his fingers around yours.
The café was small with checkered floors and a jukebox playing something soft and jazzy. Josuke ordered two mango milkshakes and a plate of fries. When the food arrived, you stared at the fries like they had personally offended your entire bloodline.
You picked one up delicately between two fingers. “What is this?” You were blinking fast, sniffing it and looking at Josuke right into his eyes.
Josuke nearly choked on his own shake from laughing. “Just try it. They’re good, I swear.”
You took the tiniest bite imaginable. Your face immediately scrunched up, the glow around you flashing a violent lime green. “This is terrible. Josuke, why did you pay for this?”
Josuke was grinning so wide it looked like it hurt. “Okay, okay, don’t eat the fries then. Try the milkshake. Do you like sweet things?”
You eyed the tall glass suspiciously, it is true that you enjoy sweet things, so you decided to give it a try. The first sip made your eyes flutter shut. The glow around you shifted to a warm, sunny gold, pulsing softly.
“Oh,” you whispered, almost reverent. “This is very acceptable. The mango is dancing on my tongue.”
Josuke rested his chin on his hand, watching you with open delight. “You’re glowing again. Like, literally. It’s cute.”
You paused mid-sip, one cheek puffed out from the thick shake. “Is that bad? The color shifting? It’s an emotional display. I can’t really control it well when I’m… overwhelmed.”
“Nah, it’s not bad at all.” He reached over and gently tapped the rim of your glass with his spoon. “Means I can tell when you like something. That’s handy.”
You took another long sip, a small contented sound escaping you, Josuke only smiled softer.
Outside the window, the pink sky was slowly fading back to normal night, but the glitter still shimmered on the sidewalks like fallen stars. A couple walked by holding hands, laughing about the magic night. You watched them for a moment, then turned back to Josuke.
“Your species seems… openly affectionate,” you observed, on your planet, affection was only shown when alone. “Is this normal behavior or are you all in some kind of collective mating ritual?”
Josuke almost spat out his shake. “Wh— no! I mean, sometimes, but not right now. That’s just… people being people. Friends. Or, uh, more than friends. But mostly it’s normal.”
You tilted your head again. “Hmm… And what are we? You’re helping me and showing me around. Is this… friendship?”
Josuke’s cheeks went a little pink, matching the sky. He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly very interested in the condensation on his glass.
“Yeah,” he said quietly, smiling. “I think we’re friends. Or at least, I’d like to be. If that’s okay with a seventeen-year-old space girl who hates fries but loves mango.”
You considered that for a long moment, the glow around you settling into a steady rose color.
“Then I accept,” you said. “You and I are friends now, Josuke Higa… Higaki…”
“Higashikata.”
“Higashikata!” you smiled, taking another sip of your milkshake, finishing it all at that moment.
Josuke’s heart did a strange little flip-flop in his chest. He stood up, fishing a few yen bills out of his wallet and sliding them onto the table.
You watched his hands intently. “On my planet, paying for the food is usually a sign of courting. Do men on Earth do this when they are on a date with a woman?”
Josuke froze, his hand still hovering over the table. The tips of his ears turned a shade of red, he began to stammer, his usual cool confidence evaporating into the humid night air. “I uh, well, yeah! I mean, it is a thing people do on dates, but it’s also... you don't have any money, right? So I’m just being a good host! It’s not necessarily a—well, it could be—but let's not get ahead of ourselves!”
He laughed nervously, a high-pitched sound that made you tilt your head in a bird-like way. Your glow pulsed a soft, questioning lavender. “You are acting... awkward,” you stated plainly. “Your heart rate has increased by approximately twenty percent.”
“You can hear my heart?!” Josuke squeaked, walking quickly toward the door to hide his face.
“I can feel the vibrations in the air,” you explained, following him out onto the sparkling sidewalk. “If paying for food is one way to show affection or 'courting' intent, how else do humans express these feelings? Your planet is very loud and physical. How do people show they care for one another here?”
Josuke slowed his pace, the cool night air helping him regain his footing. He looked at a couple sitting on a bench across the street: the man had his arm around the woman, and she was leaning her head on his shoulder.
“Well,” Josuke started, his voice dropping to a gentler, more sincere tone. “It’s different for everyone. But mostly... people hold hands when they want to feel close. Or they give hugs to show they’ve got each other's backs.” He paused, glancing at you, then looked away quickly. “And, uh, if they really like someone... they kiss.”
You stopped walking, staring at him with wide eyes. “That’s so different from my planet.” You processed the words, your glow flickering through a spectrum of curious teals and oranges. “I have seen the hand-holding. You did it earlier to lead me to the cold fruit-milk.”
You stepped closer into his personal space, looking up at him with a clinical yet intense fascination. “Josuke Higashikata. I wish to understand this planet’s customs fully so I do not cause an intergalactic incident. Show me.”
Josuke blinked, his brain momentarily short-circuiting. “Show you... all of them? Right now?”
“No, not all of them.” Josuke sighed at your words. “We held hands earlier, it’s not necessary to do it again. Your hands were sweaty.”
“Sweaty?” Josuke gasped, he didn’t expect that sassiness from you. “My hands aren’t sweaty!”
“Yes they are. Will you show me Earth’s affectionate customs or should I look for your friend?”
Josuke’s expression changed from surprise to terror, there’s no way he was going to let you go to Okuyasu and… hug him or something. He raised his hands, waving them near your face while shaking his head. “No! There’s no need to bother Okuyasu. I can… I can show you Earth’s affectionate customs.” He tried not to think about how strange that sounded.
“Nice! You may start, Josuke.” You took a step toward him, invading his personal space again. His pupils were dilated while his brows were tense; he made you far too curious, and there was a fluttering in your stomach that you had first thought was hunger, but after the milkshake it went away, so you still couldn’t identify what Josuke made you feel.
Josuke, on the other hand, felt bad—terrible, almost. He felt that, somehow, he was taking advantage of you. You didn’t know what he was about to do, but you sounded so sure and excited to learn more about Earth, Josuke wanted to earn your friendship as much as your heart.
“I’m gonna hug you now, okay?” he said slowly, extending his arms. Your frown appeared immediately, telling Josuke that you didn’t know what to do. “You can extend your arms too, then wrap them around my waist.”
You did as he said, burying your head in his chest while he wrapped his arms around your shoulders. He was taller than you, not by much, and stronger. Warm, and he smelled nice even though his hands were sweaty. The longer you hugged, the more you wanted to sink into his warmth; being in his arms felt good, very comfortable. You could hear his heartbeat perfectly, fast and steady. Then he rested his chin on the top of your head and started stroking your back with his thumb. Josuke didn’t mention how you glowed a bright pink during the seconds you stayed pressed together.
When you pulled away from him, your face felt like it was burning and your blood was rushing through your veins at high speed. You convinced yourself it was because of how warm Josuke was, because his arms had wrapped around you exactly how you needed.
“Was that okay?” Josuke asked, terrified. He was sure you had hated it, that right now you would punch him in the stomach and leave. But you looked away from him, and even so, he followed your gaze. You were… embarrassed?
“It was perfect,” you muttered, now looking at the ground. “I liked it very much.”
It was the only thing you could think of to say to avoid sounding completely ridiculous. “That’s good! Yeah, good!” Josuke nodded, pressing his lips into a thin line and searching for a way to bring up what was still left pending.
“You keep looking at my mouth,” you tell him, because you are nothing if not direct.
Josuke makes a sound like he's swallowed something wrong. “I wasn’t.”
“You were. I counted.”
“You were counting?”
“I count things when I’m trying to understand them,” you say simply. “You look at my mouth and then you look away. Is this another custom I don’t know about yet?”
The pink in his ears has spread all the way to his cheeks and he looks away from you, jaw tight, like he’s having a very serious argument with himself that you're not invited to.
“Josuke.”
“Give me a second.”
You give him a second. You give him approximately five, which is very generous by your planet’s standards.
Then he looks back at you and something in his face has shifted, he made a decision somewhere in those five seconds and he’s committed to it now, terrified but committed.
“Can I,” he starts, and his voice is careful, lower than usual. “Can I show you the last one? The, uh.” He clears his throat. “The third thing. That I mentioned earlier.”
You blink. You run back through the conversation, through the couple on the bench, through everything he said standing on the sparkling sidewalk.
Hand holding. Hugging. And.
Oh.
Your glow flickers through three colors in about two seconds, teal then orange then a very flustered lavender. “The kiss,” you say.
“Yeah.” He’s watching your face very carefully. “Only if you want. You don’t have to. It’s totally fine if you don’t want to, I shouldn’t have even—”
“Josuke.”
“Yeah?”
“I want to understand Earth’s customs fully,” you say, which is true, but it is maybe not the only reason, and you think you both know that and neither of you says it out loud.
He exhales slowly. Nods once, like he’s steadying himself then he ducks his head a little, and he moves slowly, giving you approximately seventeen opportunities to step back, which you don’t take. His hand comes up and he hesitates for just a moment before he rests it against your jaw, very gently and your breath does something strange and catches in your chest.
His eyes are closed before yours are. You close yours a second later.
And then his lips are on yours, barely any pressure at all, he’s asking a question and waiting to see if you’ll answer. He tastes like mango and his hand against your jaw is so gentle you almost can’t feel it except that you can feel it completely.
When he pulls back his eyes open slowly and he’s so close you can see that his eyelashes are longer than you initially catalogued, and his face is so red it’s almost funny, except that your face feels exactly the same way and you’re pretty sure your glow has gone a color you’ve never produced before, something between gold and rose that you don’t have a name for yet.
“Was that,” he starts.
“Yes,” you say, before he can finish, because yes covers everything he might have been about to ask.
He lets out a breath as his hand drops from your jaw slowly, like he’s not totally sure he wants to let go.
You reach up and touch your own lips with two fingers, studying the sensation like data you need to file somewhere important. “I liked that,” you tell him, very honestly.
His smile starts small and gets away from him. “Yeah?”
“Yes.” You lower your hand. “But I think I liked the hug more.”
“What?”
“The kiss was good,” you explained helpfully. “Your lips are soft and I enjoyed seeing you close to my face. But hugging is superior. It feels safer. Also, I can hear your heartbeat better.”
There was a pause.
“What’s with you and heartbeats?” Josuke said, running a hand over his face between laughs.
You just shrugged. “You have a nice heartbeat, I guess.”
“Okay, fair enough.” He opens his arms, tilting his head at you like a question. “You wanna... try the hug again then? Since you liked it more?”
You don’t even hesitate, stepping into his chest and wrapping your arms around his waist, he folds around you immediately, his chin finding the top of your head like it already knows where to go. His thumb starts doing that slow thing across your back again.
Your glow goes pink almost instantly. Bright, embarrassing pink. You’re grateful you’re hiding on his chest so he can’t see your face.
“For the record,” Josuke murmurs and you can feel the rumble of his voice in his chest, “I think I liked it too. Both things.”
“Mm. You are very warm,” you say, which is not an answer but somehow it is. “You are approximately four degrees warmer than the ambient temperature.”
“Oh, wow. Really?” Josuke laughs and tightens his arms around you just a little. Around you, Morioh is quiet, the last of the pink glitter still catching the streetlights on the sidewalk below your feet, sparkling like something out of a dream.
You stand there for a long moment, just existing in his warmth, listening to his heartbeat slow from nervous to steady. Something that feels, even to you, with your limited understanding of this planet’s customs and its strange loud people, like it means something.
“Josuke,” you say eventually, not moving.
“Mm?”
“What do humans call it,” you ask carefully, “when they want to keep doing all of this? The hug and the cold fruit-milk. When they want to keep doing it specifically with one person.”
The heartbeat under your ear picks up again just a little.
“They call it,” Josuke starts and his voice is doing something funny, “a lot of things. Depending on how far along things are.”
“What is the first word?”
He doesn’t answer right away. His thumb keeps moving across your back. “Crushing,” he says finally, quiet enough that you almost miss it over the sounds of the street. “We call it crushing on someone.”
You repeat the word slowly. “Crushing.”
“Yeah.”
You think about the flutter in your stomach. The way his heartbeat sounds like something you want to memorize. The fact that when he let go of you earlier you had wanted to grab his jacket sleeve and ask him not to.
“I think,” you say, very thoughtfully, “that this word may apply to my current situation.”
Josuke goes very still for exactly three seconds. Then he laughs, a little bit amazed, his whole chest moving with it, and he squeezes you tighter. Your glow turns the most ridiculous, radiant pink you’ve ever produced in your life, lighting up the sidewalk around your feet like a second set of stars.
“Yeah,” he says and he sounds like he can’t believe his luck. “Me too.”
