EMOJI

If you have an iPhone, you have emoji (pretty much. sorry for generalizing.)

The emoji has evolved the :) and :( to a wide world of emotions that could never be created with a simple keyboard. Children of the 90's, particularly, mastered the art of creating emotions and symbols out of the characters and numerals of our everyday lives, but with the dawn of emoji, they have been able to communicate non-verbally like never before. 

Emoji images are a character language that you download into your iPhone messaging. You can then access it along with your regular keyboard for iMessaging and posting on various apps with other iPhone users. 

The only downfall to emoji is it's incompatibility with other operating systems, and you never know what your emojis will show up as when opened on a windows phone. Often they are a question mark or other character. Lame.

Skype vs. FaceTime

Video messaging has become a common part of today's communication. It has been a true miracle to many families who live far apart or parents who travel for work to be able to see their loved ones face to face and not just hear their voices. It began just on computers, but as everything does, it has moved quickly to phones and tablets as well. 

Two of the most popular video messaging apps are Apple's FaceTime and Skype. There are others available, but I would say that these are the front-runners. 

Each has its pros and cons. Up until the iPhone 5 came out, they were on the same playing field in the accessibility department. They could both only be used when wifi was available. Now with the dawn of the iPhone 5, FaceTime can be used on a normal 3G network. 

I think this sets it apart from Skype. However, Skype will still be useful in video messaging with other on computers who do not have an Apple product.

Holiday Hilarity

Probably one of the funniest things to ever hit new media is the ever-popular app, Elf Yourself.

Using this app, you can put you and your friends' faces into a file that puts them into the face of an animated dancing helper of Santa Claus.

As we approach the holiday season, this app is ranking 19th in the list of the most popular apps on the iPhone. Once you "elf yourself," you can easily share your silly video across whatever forms of social media you please. Your friends will see it likely take the opportunity to potentially embarrass some of their other friends, all in good fun. 

What a way to spread the Christmas cheer.

A New Kind of Saga

The Candy Crush Saga is a phenomenon that has swept the world. The interesting thing about it is that many games have come before with similar plots, and they have just not taken off the way that Candy Crush has.

Candy Crush's addictiveness comes somewhat from the added challenge of having lives to lose and gain. You can band together with your best Candy Crush buddies to give one another lives when you just cannot get to the next level and you simply can't wait for the period to elapse for you to be able to try again. This sharing feature also invites new people to play the game within your Facebook circles, etc. and for them to get sucked into the black hole of smashing jellies as well. 

Candy Crush is the 13th most popular app in the Apple store right now. Crush on.

I know that videos on Instagram have been around for a while now, and that being said, why haven't they figured out how to make them more user friendly yet?

These little snipits are a great idea, and I would probably use them more often if I could ever make them work. They take "forever" to load, often inhibiting the impact of the creation on the viewer. Also, they can cause pains for the author, sometimes having trouble even uploading. 

The competition of the simplicity and user-friendliness that Vine offers really poses a problem to the Instavid getting off the ground, I believe.
