i am so deeply distressed at how many lonely women there are, inside and outside our movement. women who wake up lonely and go to bed lonely. women who have just their partner and no other friends. women who aren’t getting their basic, human social needs met. we turn to obsessive social media consumption because are so lonely and it’s better than nothing. women who haven’t gone outside in three days. women who wouldn’t know who to call or text when they’re in the worst possible mental place. women who wouldn’t know who to call when they’re happy. and it should just be one friend, two friends. acquaintances. casual internet friendship is not enough. we need each other. we need community. loneliness and isolation kill. it shortens our life span. it robs us of the energy we need to speak our truths. it makes it so difficult to scrape up joy. it kills us.
