synopsis anton and yn have been best friends by pure chance. after being assigned to sit next to each other on their first day of elementary school, they have never left each other's side for 10 years. they had been through every up and down together; first relationships, first night out, first heartbreak, and such. with the start of the new univeristy year, and yn feeling even more single than usual, anton slowly realises maybe his hatred for all her exes were a lot more deeper than he had thought. it also doesn't help how everyone around them, including their professors, assume they are a thing. but, he's just her best friend. right?

y/n stared at her phone screen, blinking. she wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. red bull had hard launched her relationship before she could. all the soft launch pics of her and arvid sitting in a photo album in her phone.
"babe, what's up," arvid noticed how y/n had been staring at her phone and was slightly concerned. he had never seen her so still and quiet in his 17 years of knowing her.
without saying a word, she passed her phone to him, letting the post do all the talking.
arvid smiled a little when he saw a picture of himself posted by the red bull uk account, he felt a tingle of pride. but that instantly vanished when he swiped and recognised the next photo.
it was one that his brother had taken when they went to an aquarium while both his and her family went on holiday together. as he swiped again, he smiled a little seeing how it was a picture of y/n in her element before scrolling to read through the caption.
"how did they even get the second pic?" arvid smiled sheepishly as he returned y/n her phone, "i had to send the red bull marketing team a few pics once and i accidentally sent that as well."
y/n felt her jaw drop before her head was thrown back in laughter. "i'm sorry," arvid chuckled, moving to sit next to her on his bed like how he was before he had left to help his mum with something.
"so do we just hard launch now?" arvid raised his brows, looking at y/n once her laughter had died down. "i guess we could," she shrugged, opening her photos app to scroll through the shared album of their photos together.
"kinda bumped i can't continue dropping cute soft launch pics of you anymore though," y/n pouted causing arvid to chuckle, finding her expression adorable. "you could still do it, no one's stopping you," arvid kissed her head, noticing the smile on her face as he glance back to her.
"but for now, let's hard launch ourselves, yeah?"

REAL LIFE – Y/N'S APARTMENT
"have you seen twitter?" y/n sighed as she looked up from her phone after scrolling through said app. she noticed how oscar frowned, internally cooing at how cute he looked as he shook his head.
the formula 1 athlete knew better than to spend his free time scrolling through all kinds of social media, especially twitter of all platforms. that didn't mean he wasn't aware of the memes that circulated though. not with his three sisters and his chronically online girlfriend. oscar still couldn't believe y/n was his and would get a pink in cheeks when someone brings her up in conversations.
"shouldn't you know better than to care what they're saying online," oscar raised his brow as he looked at her pointedly. he had a guess on what 'fans' were saying, heck his friends from school had messaged him to be sure the rumours were right.
"you're dating the girl who interviewed you for a uni assignment?" to which he responded with a plain 'yes' and ignored the other comments that followed.
"i do know better, but i can't help it when it's on my timeline," y/n defended causing a chuckle to leave the boy's lips. "what are they saying?" he caved, deciding it was better to share the burden than have y/n battle it all in her head.
"people think i'm using you to start my career," oscar exhaled when he heard her words. he was hoping it was just a simple one of, 'she doesn't deserve him' or 'maybe they're a pr stunt' so he could just post something and shut them up.
them bringing her career into it made it harder as she had shared how she dreams of working within formula 1 one day.
not knowing what he could say or do in the moment, oscar pulled her from her spot on the sofa and onto his lap. "why don't we just take a nap for now," he hummed, smiling softly as she smiled up at him. one of the things they had in common was being able to sleep at anytime.
their friends had joked saying how they were made for each other just because of this, but the two couldn't be more happier to finally have a partner that understood the random naps at odd timings leaving the other on delivered for hours.
as y/n closed her eyes and rested her head on oscar's chest, he sighed knowing he had to do something before the potential hate got too much.
oscar didn't necessarily have to do something, but he wanted to. he wanted to protect y/n and their love from the critics of people who call themselves fans of either him or the sport. anyone that couldn't accept she made him happy was clearly not his fan – he wouldn't accept it.

y'n's eyes widened in surprise. her doorbell rang just seconds after reading oscar's text.
she didn't bother to check the peephole, opening the door straightaway only to be greeted by a bouquet of tulips. white tulips.
"i remember you said you liked tulips but i didn't know which colour. my sisters said different colours mean different things, so i googled and decided that white ones were best for this occasion." oscar rambled, his cheeks turning pink the more he spoke. god, did he feel like he was back in boarding school, confessing to his then crush.
y/n could only blink at him before realising he was still standing in the apartment corridor for her neighbours to see him holding flowers for her.
"come in."
oscar felt his heart sink a little at her two words but stepped in to her apartment, closing the door behind him. just as he turned around, he felt her arms around his neck, "oh."
"they're perfect," she mumbled. "god, you're perfect, i could kiss you right now!" she whined, burying her head in his chest making oscar laugh. the pink in his cheeks only getting brighter.
"well, why don't you," he hummed, looking down at y/n in his arms. he almost kissed her last night, when they were in the same position out on the streets and he wanted to kiss her before she left his car when he had dropped her off.
oscar knew it was probably too soon, but he couldn't help but fall for her so hard this fast. y/n was so easy to talk to, easy to be with, and he didn't want to leave her. if she wasn't in uni, he would offer to have her follow him for the rest of the season.
"i don't kiss before the first date," y/n teased, taking the bouquet of tulips from his hand before moving towards her kitchen to place them in a vase.
"i thought that was last night?" oscar teased back. explicitly, neither of them had referred to last night's dinner as a date, but it might as well been.
"was it?"
oscar chuckled, enjoying the bit of domesticity of whatever they were in the moment. he could picture waking up to her cooking in their apartment.
"oscar," y/n called out as she stared at the tulips on the counter top. with a hum, he watched as she picked up the bouquet with her phone in hand, "could you stand here?"

while it was slightly risky, especially since the two of them had yet to talk about what they were, y/n couldn't help herself.
not a few seconds after she posted it, oscar's phone dinged. y/n thought it was just a text so she turned back to her kitchen, finally putting the flowers in the vase she had prepared.
"god, i look so awkward," oscar whined as he saw the story she had posted of him with the flowers. he quickly liked the story before closing the app and pocketing his phone.
"then i did a good job in encapsulating your vibe in a single picture," y/n smiled playfully at him. "are you saying awkward guys are your type?"
"awkward nerds, yes," y/n tilted her head watching as oscar approached her. "so, not because of my arms or hands then," he hummed, a teasing smile on his face as he placed his hands on her hips.
"you stalked my twitter?" y/n gasped, pointing at him accusingly. oscar laughed, nodding his head with a hum, "made me go to sleep with a smile on my face, actually."
"so last night's dinner wasn't enough to put a smile on your face?" y/n was half teasing and half serious. she knew oscar was a sweet guy from the media and how he's been treating her since they agreed to meet last night.
but he was still a formula one driver, she couldn't help but think there was a possibility he was only using her for some company while in melbourne.
"oh, it was, but the tweets definitely made my night," oscar smiled at her, enjoying the way her nose scrunched as she looked away from him.
"y/n," he mumbled softly, "I was going to ask you after our date but i can't hold it in any longer. will you let me be your boyfriend?"
as the words left oscar's mouth, his heart started racing. he watched as y/n's eyes widened before she started blinking up at him. his lips twitched into a smile, finding the habit cute.
"yes–"
oscar smiled brightly, pulling her into a tight hug, cutting her short. he swayed the both of them on the spot. eyes closed as he rested his chin on head.
if only he could pack her in his suitcase and take her everywhere with him.
the two of them were relaxing on her couch, watching a random movie on netflix when her phone was blowing up.
"sorry, it's my friends, they're asking about my story," y/n showed him her phone, his eyes widening at the number of texts in her chat inbox before he spotted something.
"wait a minute," he furrowed his brows, looking at her. "i don't have a contact picture?" y/n looked at him with a look that screamed 'really?'
"do you want me to use one of your many memes online, then?"
"ok, never mind," oscar shook his head, realising his mistake.
he watched her with a smile on his face as y/n snuggled back into his side, turning her attention to the movie playing, "you wanna go to a cafe?"
y/n turned to him, a bright smile on her face, "not scared about being caught again?"
"eh," oscar shrugged, "not really." with that, y/n jumped off the couch, rushing to her room for a change of clothes leaving oscar to chuckle at her antics.

"thank you everyone for joining us for this years' fundraiser!" mark clapped his hands, a smile on his face as the rest of his student union and the members hollered back in response.
"remember sign ups for student union interviews open in two weeks time," shotaro reminded the members, looking at a few people he hoped will sign up. "we're looking forward to seeing who'll sign up!"
"you're signing up right?" anton looked down at the girl by his left, already knowing her answer. "yep, you?" hana turned to look up at him.
anton nodded, "but i'm not sure if i should aim for secretary or vice pres," he sighed. hana tilted her head, thinking for a minute before offering her opinion, "i say vice pres, go big or go home."
hana giggled as anton scrunched his face in faux distaste. "you think i'll be a good vp?" he frowned, not sure if he could handle things as well as shotaro.
"i think you'll be a great vp," hana smiled softly at him, "with me as pres of course." anton chuckled at that, a smile breaking out across his face.
"photo time!"
before anton could ask hana for a photo together, mark had called her, waving his phone in the air to show he wanted a photo with her.
"don't leave until we get a photo, okay?" hana looked to anton with a bright smile, watching as he nodded with a hum before rushing over to mark.
anton couldn't help but sigh as he watched hana giggle as she posed next to mark, "they look good together." he jumped at the sound of his friend's voice, not realising he had been near him since anton had been focussed on hana.
"dude," he held a hand to his chest as he looked at eunseok, "you scared me."
ignoring his friend's whine, eunseok stared at him as anton turned back to see hana and mark hugging. "you do know they're just friends, right?"
anton knew that, and yet he couln't help but feel otherwise. almost every moment they had together in meetings and prep work, mark somehow stole her attention.
he knew they had gotten close when the different committees met up for the first time. mark and shotaro were both present as the president and vice president.
shotaro had told him how it seemed like mark and hana were best friends who had just met after years of being apart. he also couldn't help but notice how similar they were.
eunseok couldn't help but sigh at the lack of his friend's attention, turning to look at jungwoo and sungchan who could only shrug.
little did they know, anton made a promise to himself in that moment. a promise to protect his fragile heart: distance himself from kim hana, the girl who unknowing stole his heart within a month.
