Educaplay
I've made a matching activity with pictures and quotes from movies and tv shows for children. I think it can be interesting for children because it is something that they can relate to or they already know. I hope you enjoy it.

Thumbelina by M. Serres
Reflections on Thumbelina.
In this book are presented Thumbelina and Tom Thumb, but, who are they? These characters refer to the new generations. Those children who have never had to deal with struggles like the ones of whom had been born in a country life or an era of war. These young people have a bigger and better life expectancy than the one 60 years ago. They have to live in overcrowded cities, they can plan their future, their family, and their health. They do not need to go and look for information, the information is already in their hands and they can access to it with just a movement of their thumbs. This will lead them to a great amount of knowledge at the reach of their hands. Despite this, access to information will not mean that this would be a meaningful knowledge, so what we need to do is to give all of this information and technologies a purpose. With a world in constant change, we do not need to fall behind, we need to walk side by side with Thumbelina and Tom Thumb and see what it is needed to be invented to go along with them.
Nowadays children have their heads in their hands, how is it possible? In their hands, they have a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone. These devices work as a human head, they have all kinds of information, pictures and can reason as well. Thumbelina is now connected and has collected knowledge as well. They are going through a revolution, where innovation and technologies are taking over everyday life. While a couple of centuries or even decades ago not everyone could grant the privilege of reading and writing, nowadays the words surround us. As books where a privilege too, now they have involved and come in the format of a laptop or a printed page written by yourself. But have the books been replaced? Have the knowledge needs to be found or it is already in our hands? Then why do we need to be lectured? These things are not obsolete, they are involving. Now we have e-books and all kind of information in our pockets, in our smartphones. This information, the head that they have in their hands, does not replace their thinking. They can not have a head alone, they need their bodies. They need interaction with each other, they need to move, they need to talk, they need to think, they need a soul.
Thumbelina is in constant evaluation from society. All the innovations, technologies, and facilities that she seems to have are supposed to make her better or worse? Maybe society expects Thumbelina to surpass the generations before, or expect her to fail at her work. Thumbelina is not taken into account. Society judges her without listening to her. In networks, she finds the place to express herself and to be heard. But then again society will look upon her for being connected to the technologies and disconnected from the world. She needs to find her place. Online she may be a number or a code, but she will be heard, she will find a place of belonging and equality. She is discovering a new world, but not far from the world around her as the society may think. Changing is taking place and Thumbelina is helping to create it. Like other changes and revolutions before, they are needed to prepare the place for something new to come.
As a conclusion, we do not need to look at Thumbelina as someone who is not capable to think or to feel. We need to take into consideration both Thumbelina and Tom Thumb. They are not being left behind, they are our future. What we need to do is to accompany them and to understand them. We need to hear at this new generation. The world is involving and it can not be stopped. They need to create and we need to create ways to help them reach their goals. Technologies help a lot and we need to take advantage of it. Thumbelina understands these innovations better than we do and it is ok to do so. They can help us understand the world around us better than we can do, they are involving along with the world that we have nowadays. In the days that we are going through there is more evidence that they are more capable to adapt to change. We are living overconnected because there is no other way to interact in this situation. They are the ones that are helping most of the older generations to go through this. Most of the things that society has criticized from them are the ones that we need the most now. They are showing us all how we need to learn from them.

Webinar: Plan Ceibal
The plan Ceibal is a programme from Uruguay with the contribution of the British council to develop classes in English as a second language, there are native speakers and a lot of professionals from various countries working to teach remotely through video- conferencing for primary students in state schools.
Graham Stanley is Country Director for the British Council in Uruguay and takes part in this project. He says that remote teaching is quite challenging because you are physically removed from the learners, so you have to do it very interactively. Also is important to coordinate with the classroom teacher in Spanish in a weekly basis to make sure that teaching and learning is taking place successfully.
In order to deliver those classes it is of utmost importance to know that you will have to include digital learning technologies such videoconferencing equipment to deliver the class, websites, presentation software, etc.
In order to implement this project they started delivering laptops to students and teachers in state schools, free wireless internet and videoconferencing equipment were installed in schools across the country.
This programme is a useful tool that connects a classroom with various teachers from different countries like Argentina and Philippines. This was needed in order to solve the lack of trained and qualified English teachers. They learn not only the language, but culture too, encouraging the dialogue and improve learning and language skills.
This gives students and the teachers the opportunity to be near the new technologies and ways of teaching and learning. It also is a great chance to learn a language from native speakers, along with many English teachers from different countries. In the upcoming years it will be necessary to be up to date with the digital teaching-learning technologies that help us to stay connected, to keep in touch with our students and develop our skills in the use of devices.
